Spring 89th, 514 AV

It was a busy day, with people on the streets bustling around and doing their business. Mothers with large baskets on one arm, and children on the other. A blacksmith still in his apron hustled down the street, on some urgent business. Vendors calling out their wares. The usual. It was a very plain, ordinary, day. The sun was high in the sky, Syna stating that the time was approximately noon. It was warm for Spring, but it was late Spring, with Summer right around the corner… most people had stored away their warm clothes and sported lighter ones, of cotton and linen rather than thick wool.

Kreig would find himself in a small, isolated street just off a main one. Only one or two people would ever pass by, occasionally throwing a light greeting to a man. The reason he was there was simple. That morning, at his door, was a polite request to meet him at this location. Apparently it was ‘urgent business’. It had been in neat writing, and signed with a scribble that was hard to decipher. Still, the person had known his full name, where he lived… all that.

Finally, after nearly a bell of waiting, whoever wanted to talk to him arrived. He was a very average looking man, tall like a beanpole, and nearly as thin as one too. His hair was a bit of a mess, and he ran a little awkwardly. In fact he talked to himself a little. ”Just a moment, please…” he hissed once, scowling at a wall. He approached Kreig with an apologetic smile, leaning against a building wall a little tiredly.

”I’m sorry for the intrusion. Someone wanted to speak with you… badly.”

OOCI know you wanted the lake place, but inside the city was the easiest for me to work out ^-^

Kreig didn't quite expect such a thing to greet him when he awoke this morning, quite frankly it was one of the last things he expected outside the dormitory room was to find a polite request, whilst the request was odd and, to be quite honest, the writing a bit difficult to make out. Why people used such eloquent writing was beyond him, they were an eyesore no matter what anyone said. But he digressed, the letter made him uneasy because it was urgent and was quite specific of where and when to meet. At first he thought it be his sister, but shook his head, if she wanted to meet him there would have been no need for a letter since they'd meet at the Fighter's pit. He thought it to be one of the other squires or the knights, but all the ones he knew had duties today, official or otherwise. In fact, he was quite certain everyone he knew was a bit busy this day.

The corridor, or street really considering that Syliras was a city within a castle, was quiet. He walked down the path lightly, an anxious feeling making itself known to him as it spread about his form. HIs palms itched, nervous.... part of him was worried that his old life in Sunberth decided to make another visit, that a Daggerhand or Dragoon had come all this way and discovered he was here and out of some form of mad curiosity; decided to meet with Kreig for some pitiful idea of vengeance or blackmail. It was the reason why he took precaution and equipped himself with his own armor and at his waist rested his longsword. His gauntlets were the greater of his weapons, however, the studs giving it extra weight and thus extra force, combined with his own affinity for unarmed combat made it so that he was never truly unarmed. It made certain that whatever happened; he would be prepared.

The quiet corridor had little passerby, so little that Kreig only saw two people and when they greeted him he would return with a smile and a light wave. After that it would remain deathly quiet, so much that it was only the distant hustle and bustle of the other streets, of people going about their business and working a day's honest work, that reminded him he was indeed within a city and not some haunted castle from some ghost story.

Then, after the passing of a bell, came a voice calling out to him as Kreig turned to look at.... well... quite the unassuming looking man, thin and tall as a pole, messy hair and perhaps a tad bit insane from the way he scowled at a wall. It made him worry a little 'Is this the man who I am meant to meet?' He was unassuming, but perhaps there was something more to him? Kreig returned the smile with his own, though it was obvious that he was a bit nervous.

"And um..... I assume that someone, is you?"

The man shook his head, smiling as if Kreig's inference was a silly childish one. "No, no. Er.." He made an odd expression, screwing up his face. In a moment, however, he relaxed, and he might have just had a painful cramp or something... except for the new creature next to him .

It was standing on the ground, shorter than either of the two men by several feet. It was also a little see-through and whitish, almost like... a ghost. For that was what the creature was. In fact, it took the appearance of a little boy, on that -after a few moments- would quickly become familiar to Kreig. The one child whose life he took.

The kid's expression was a dark one, pushing away any thought of youth. In fact, it was a little creepy. He stood there, arms folded, just... staring at the brawler. Staring. "Er, Kreig, this is Arnel... You've met before. Erm... yea. You wanted to... talk?" He tried prodding the ghost, but -forgetting that the boy was dead- his finger went right through. Embarrassed by the whole situation he turned red, backing up a few paces to give the pair room. He didn't quite seem to know their relationship, so was confused when the child simply refused to say anything.

"Arnel? I thought..."

The glare turned in his direction caused the man to shut up instantly. It was true, the ghost said... nothing. In fact, he was waiting for Kreig's reaction, and judge the situation off of that.

The man was quite odd, no doubt about that, espeically when he made the face that made it seem like he took a quick number two while standing up. His words made him curious though, if he was not to speak to him then whom was he to speak to?.... It was then he noticed the ethereal presence next to him, a short being that was looked and was the size of a child. In fact, it was a child, the word 'was' being the key word here.

It wasn't just any child however; as Kreig felt a sudden cool air rush over him, his eyes widened in unexpected shock as if his guilt, rather than take a new form, decided to take a new form to torment him. That if nightmares were not enough, then the incorporeal creature before him would suffice to cause enough emotion to force Kreig to break. He recognized the young child, how could he not? He wrapped a hand against a fist, looking down as the flood of memories made themselves known to him once more, and like every time before it, felt like the first time viewing them.

His heart beat faster and with each beat grew heavier and heavier, it tightened as if invisibles chains wrapped itself around it and tightened itself. He would never be absolved of the blood that he himself had spilled, it was an accident yet forever his sin to bear as he looked back at the child...at what was once a boy named Arnel. The child's glare was like an endless amount of spears piercing through his form and Kreig found it difficult to speak., difficult to mumble a single word from which he felt he had to say now, even if it was meaningless now that the deed was done.

"I am sorry..." He looked at the small child with haunted eyes, the words did not free him no, but they needed to be said, they must be said else he would never be given a chance to say them again. He didn't know what Arnel wanted though, he knew that it was likely his apology would not be enough, yet the child simply glared at him without speaking the words that would indicate what he wanted. He didn't know if the child wanted him dead or even a more heartfelt apology.

If it asked an impossible task, he would do it.

The child continued to stare at Kreig after the apology, strange eyes almost attempting to bore into his soul, see his real emotions. Finally, after several long, agonizing moments, he snorted.

"That's it?" he demanded sarcastically, a bitter tone in his voice. "'I'm sorry' you say, and expect me to forgive you?" He let out a harsh laugh.

"I'm... missing something, aren't I?" the older man said carefully, confusion still obvious on his face. "Yes. And you. Kreig. Is that all you wanted to say?"

OOCI'm sooo very sorry for the short post... they wont normally be like this. There was little for me to write other than dialogue. However, there should still be some good stuff to work off... as I want to see what Kreig would do :)

He expected that from the child as he looked down and let a humorless grin show on his face. He turned to look at the thin, beanstalk of a man with a look of pain itched into his face as memories of the past flashed through his head. His left first began to twitch, a certain memory of the child's death making itself known again, before Kreig suddenly grasped his fist with his other hand and kept it from moving even more wildly "I am afraid that you are missing much, sir..." He gave him a friendly smile, sincere in its intent yet hollow of any happiness or joy, only a haunted look in his eyes.

He turned to look at the ghost child, the small boy still looking at Kreig harshly and was obvious unable to forgive his murderer for his act, and Kreig could not blame him. He was guilty after all, Kreig could and would never deny that even if it was an accident ' I had taken a young and innocent LIFE, his life!! There is no apology to be given, only an endless burden of atonement' It was far easier to admit that, yet it offered no release from the shackles.... chains such as that were never meant to be taken off after all.

"I.... am the reason this child is dead" Kreig admitted to the man as he looked at the ghost, to their eyes it would appear that the fit man would have aged 100 years, as if all his life was drained from him. He ran a hand through his hair, causing the already messy hair to get messier " Back home... Back in Sunberth, I was the reason why he and his father had met their deaths..." He said with little to now hesitation, the man needed the full picture after all... no point in keeping him in the dark.

The man frowned at Kreig's expression, not liking the strange eyes... the warrior was disturbed, it was obvious... but what about? Yes he was missing something... but what was he missing? Finally an explanation came, but... it was not a pleasant one. His jaw dropped and his eyes widened. It would be easy to think Kreig a heartless killer, just for that... but his expression said everything else.

"Oh," he said lamely, voice weak. "But... you're not happy about it, are you? You seem to hate yourself for it. Was it an accident? Or just a time you regret?" His voice was kind and soft, reassuring the brawler. It was something he did a lot with ghosts, being a Spiritist... though a bad one. He liked talking to people, keeping them calm, reassured. This was just like that, except... the person was living.

The younger boy still seemed displeased, but the Kreig's expression also caused him to soften... just a little. He turned and frowned at the Spiritist as the older man spoke, then glanced back at Kreig. He looked expectantly at the armored man, waiting for the answer, waiting to see, and to judge.

Kreig frowned as he looked up at the ceiling "Not a moment goes by where I don't..." He replied a he looked back down at the ghost then to the spiritist. For 2 to 3 seasons he suffered from nightmares, lack of sleep, lack of proper eating. He'd lost weight gradually and he was constantly tired to the point that he could have passed out of exhaustion at any moment during those days. However after a certain incident, an incident where he had finally revealed to someone his guilt. Nowawadays he looked much healthier and the nightmares had lessen considerably. He chuckled humorlessly "...I didn't mean to kill the lad. Him, his pa and I were all Sunberthians you see. We didn't know each other, we weren't close friends or even acquaintances really..." His voics seem to choke, as if something was lodged in his throat, memories becoming even stronger now.

"I was part of a gang, the Kid's pa was part of a another...so we were enemies" His left hand suddenly grasped the pommel of his hilt. " I was at our turf, no one was there but me. I was the guard dog" The more he spoke, as each word left Kreig's lips, the more his voice rose and the more his eyes seemed to be looking at something else entirely. To Kreig's eyes it was no longer some corridor in Syliras, some quiet place where he was speaking to a beanstalk and a ghost "I was swinging a wooden sword around, my boss wanted me to learn how to use a weapon. Said my fists and guantlets weren't enough.. Then came some guy and a short fella who's face I couldn't see under a cloak" The weather no longer felt like it was in doors, his body heatened and began to sweat as if it were that single summer's day all over again.

"We joked a bit, all nice between me and the man. Then came straight to business, he was to kill me for the turf. I was to kill him defending it and so began the battle between him and I had begun...." He paused a bit, everything see, king to be moving too fast now "I didn't have an actual weapon with me, the man had a sword and I the training sword. We fought viciously and the same time we were enjoying every minute of it. We didn't care about death, both so confident that the other was going to win. The man was the better swords and, I the better fighter.... eventually my wooden sword broke and I was on the ground, he was gloating, but then froze as I stabbed him with the sharp edges of the broken training sword...I won"

Kreg voice suddenly took a sorrowful turn as his hands reached for his forehead "Then everything went wrong...so wrong... the small person turned out to be his kid. Why'd he bring a kid?! He gt angry at me, mad I killed his dad...I tried to alm the kid down I did" tears began forming and dripped down his cheek "He charged me and stabbed me with a dagger, It wasn't deep or anything and I still tried to calkm him....then reflexively..."He fell too his knees, his mind seeing a small corpse in front of him ".....m-my fist flew forward, accidentally....accident- ....accidentally hit him. He dropped....just like that. Not moving, still....I tried waking him, but he's dead....he won't wake up" His mind n longer registered this as the present, his eyes looked down at the imaginary corpse. His hand grasping it and tried shaking it "Wake up...Please, wake up"

The Spiritist watched Kreig’s story with sympathy on his face, sad to hear the emotional and regretful story. He winced at the last lines, the brawler’s hate for what he did, and the whole fact that he didn’t want to kill Arnel… that hadn’t been his goal. Sunberth was a crazy place, and murder there was generally looked over… and after all, the other man had started it… sort of. He’d been there to kill Kreig anyways, and why did he drag a kid along? Who knew… that one had passed to Lhex’s judgement.

The young ghost frowned in his own response, mulling things over very seriously. He was in a position where he’d forgiven Kreig, after seeing his regret, but still wanting to hold a grudge… just for the sake of holding a grudge. Still, even the sight of such a strong man crouching on the ground lost in the past moved him, so he crouched to be at a level with the warrior. ”Okay,” he said, gently touching one of Kreig’s hands with his own. It was solid, but cold, and eventually dissipated into mist.

”Okay,” he finally said… and slipped off to join his father. His soulmist faded away, leaving no sign of the young ghost.

The Spiritist stared. ”Wow, I didn’t think that would work,” he said a little lamely, grinning weakly at the other man. ”Are you alright?” Now he was concerned, reaching down a hand to help the previously pitiful person up from the ground. Once that was done, he would finally introduce himself.

”I’m Urik Hanne, a Spiritist… but you probably already know that. Er… I sort of like helping ghosts pass on, as they usually have some business they want to deal with. It doesn’t work half the time… but today it did!” He sounded remarkably pleased with himself, a wide grin plastered on his naturally pale face.

”That was probably pretty shocking for you… did you want any help home? Or are you all good?”

OOCThis is NOT the end of the thread. Actually, it’s just the beginning ^-^

Briefly, yet it felt like the longest of times, Kreig was lost in his own nightmarish world as he kept recalling the incident in his head. Remembering it pained him considerably, with each flash of memories like a fresh wound that never closed and was repeatedly pressed with a cloth dipped in alcohol. Suddenly he was knocked out of his pained trance by the feeling of a cold and gentle hand on his own. He looked up to hear the words of the child, a simple word repeated twice yet its context meant the world to Kreig.... He had truly been forgiven.

It felt like a breath of indescribable reliefe had washed over Kreig as he saw the child fade away to the after life, to Dira's embrace. The pain was still very very there, yet that relief assured him that he would have much less nightmares. He would never forget....but he could certainly live with himself now. He stood up, slowly, grabbing at the Spiritists hand to support himself.

Kreig breathed deeply, trying to collect himself then ran his hand through his hair, nodding to the spiritist's words all the while "I....I am well. I should have no difficulty finding my way back" He took another deep as he looked at where the ghost once stood "...I just need time to think, before I head back"
