Markus eyes shot open as every muscle in his body suddenly tensed as he felt himself fall. His right arm tried to break the fall, but it got tangled in his sleeping bag. With a horrified look Markus' face landed in the dirt. He grunted annoyed as he rolled over again and found a less uncomfortable spot against the tree he had been sleeping. He twisted and turned several times – missed his bed back in Syliras. It was soft and comfortable, a true paradise compared to the piece of wood.

He really just wished he had a pillow, mainly. As he sat there in the early morning. Syna was slowly rising and he was looking forward to her warm rays getting some life into his body. He shivered a little in his bedroll. Dark green eyes glared at the one man tent. In which the woman slept – the reason for all of his troubles. She had inadvertently dragged him out here into the middle of nowhere. Then he had offered his tent hoping she would also invite him to join her, but nope – she had been a tease and once he had gotten his bedroll Markus had opted for a rest against a tree. Figuring a sitting position was favourable to placing his head against the ground like a caveman.

He had slept terribly. Awoken at random when the wind had rustled through the trees. When he had been awoken by him falling to the side – that had happened often. Very often. All in all the tired young squire figured he had gotten perhaps 4 bells of sleep and now that it was getting light, he was not going to sleep any time soon. Stretching every muscle capable of being stretched Markus climbed out of his bedroll, like a snake shedding its skin, it looked far from graceful. He found his water skin and splashed some of the content into his mouth, the other his face. It was freezing cold. Enough to sent several shivers through his corpus.

He was already dressed, no way in Ravok he was going to sleep naked in the wilderness. He would have been eaten alive by bugs and what else the goddess of life had bestowed upon the forest. But the mischievous peppered with annoyance look on his face when he looked at the tent. Oh, vengeance would be his. For dragging him out here. Markus would see to it. As stealthily as he could move, he reached the tent. Large hands gently pushed aside the fabric wet from condensation and looked inside the tent. He could see the woman sleeping. The slow rise and fall of her chest under the bed roll. Fast asleep. Couldn't be more perfect.

”Rise and shine!” The squire yelled as he squeezed his water skin and cold water sprayed out from the hose. Directly onto the sleeping Raven. Revenge was sweet. He would probably have to deal with a sour Raven all day, but he honestly didn't care. The laughter that emanated from his lips was carefree and happy. Vented his system of the pent up annoyance of the previous day and the current night.

Although his stomach did growl for breakfast. - It was not often the squire, who ate thrice a day, went without food for extended periods of time.

Raven stepped gracefully through the forest, it's leaves, trees, branches and grass all glowing luminously as she followed a tall silhouette that she couldn't identify. The light grew brighter the closer she got to the figure until her fingers were only inches away from it, there was a bright flash and it was gone. The young woman looked at her new surroundings, still the glowing forest only this time it was accompanied by the sound of rushing water and there ahead of her was the river, with a beautiful naked man standing in the center, Markus.

The dark blonde haired man turned his gaze to her as she stepped closer to the river, dazzling emerald eyes sparkling in the ethereal glow of the surrounding forest and a large smile on his lips as he lifted the other hand and motioned for her to join him. "You were right, the water is great. Going to join me in here?" Markus asked innocently in his tone, but the glint in his eyes suggesting otherwise

Raven bit one of her lush lips, a sense of deja vu rushing over her as she watched the handsome squire reach his hand out towards her. She stood there for a moment unsure of what to do before finally stepping into the lake fully clothed until she was standing right in front of Markus, her hand reaching out to take his. There was another flash and when things cleared, Raven was alone in the river and this time she was the naked one, while Markus stood dry and fully clothed in the forest, laughing happily.

Suddenly, she felt very embarrassed and attempted to cover herself up although it was too late, the sound of rushing water drew her attention as she turned to see a massive wave rushing towards her, ”Rise and shine!” she heard Markus yell from the forest just before the wave hit her and she was submerged in the icy coldness of the water. She grabbed her throat feeling the desperate need to breath as she clawed her way to the surface of the lake bursting out and gasping for air.

Raven sat up quickly with that same gasp, her breathing heavy as she looked around with a brow furrowed in confusion, she was in a tent, went, freezing...and there
in front of her stood a clothed Markus, laughing happily, just as he had been in her dream, yes it was just a dream, although she really was cold and drenched in water. "Jerk!" she spat with a scowl as she slipped out of the tent, pushing him roughly as she passed.

It was still early, too early for Raven but the juvenile prank Markus had pulled had completely woken her up and she doubted he would let her go back to sleep anyway. She pulled her dark her hair from her face and rubbed the water over her exposed skin to thin it out although it was already beginning to dry. Another loud annoyed sigh sounded from her mouth almost in unison with The Sukina Geysers in the distance, almost as if they were as annoyed as she was. The thought brought a smile to her face for a moment before it disappeared and she turned to see the handsome jerk squire who'd been sent to escort her. "What the petch?"
she said as she crossed her arms annoyedly, the scowl never leaving her face.

Markus' laughter continued as the woman got out of the tent, puffed him aside as she ran. Did little to stop his laughter. The expression on her face had been priceless. One moment serene and peaceful. The next, wide open eyes and out of the bed in a second. Though he noted, with not a small amount of disappointment, that the woman had decided to sleep in her clothes like Markus had. He had hoped to see her naked as she ran out of the tent. Oh well, the black leather was also a fine attire that he could ogle at for days without growing tired. When she spoke again, asked him what the petch - his laughter turn into a crooked smirk. The scowl on her face didn't bother him at all.

"Sounded like you were having a good dream. I hope I didn't interrupt anything." He winked and turned to the tent. Reached in and grabbed his backpack and pulled it outside. Opened it and found what would become his breakfast. Dried meat and some cheese with bread. "Stop mopping over there and come get some breakfast - it was only water." Markus tore off half the meat and handed it over to the woman. If she was still too upset to accept the meat, he would only shrug in response and take another bite out of the meat. Before placing the remnants on the bread with the cheese. The bread was hard. But he bit into it and the cheese tasted alright. The meat was dry and boring. The bread, hard.

Like usual. He splashed some of the cold water into his mouth to wash down the meal. Markus just stared away at a tree. Very tired. Though his prank had given him a little more energy. Hopefully the meal would wake him up a little and give him the necessary strength to return home to a fine bed. He just ate in silence. Too tired for conversation other than ordering the woman about - might as well pull her share of the weight.

"Once you've eaten, pack down the tent." He said with a yawn.

Raven's heart was finally start to slow it's rapid beating from the rude awakening, which was exactly what it was, rude. She placed a hand over her face in annoyance as the squire's laughter
continued on for a moment longer before he finally spoke, teasing her about her dream, her eyes shot open behind her hand as she wondered if she had said something in her sleep, like his name. Please, gods no, she wouldn't be able to survive that kind of embarrassment, did he already know? No, she would fake innocence until the end. "Actually I WAS, unfortunately your juvenile behaviour put an end to those shreds of happiness." she said with annoyance as she dropped her hand from her face and stepped towards him to join in on 'breakfast'.

"The water was not the problem. Was that entirely necessary? I was just beginning to not despise you." she said between bites, breaking the silence as she watched the geysers in the distance, a thin layer of annoyance still evident in her expression. It didn't take long for the two of them to finish eating and once they had, Raven stood up and stretched her body out, it was a beautiful morning but it was already evident that it was going to be another hot day, perhaps even hotter than the previous one.

She made her way over to the tent to pull her backpack out of it along with her whip which she fastened to it's usual spot on her hip before emerging just in time to hear Markus yawn something about her packing the tent. The comment earned him a short fake laugh from Raven as she crossed her arms, was he actively trying to annoy her, because it already seemed like that would be his goal for the day. "Honey, you must have bumped your head if you think I'm packing up YOUR tent, especially after that rude awakening." she said as she casually strolled over to the edge of the cliff and took a seat, her legs dangling off of the edge. In her mind, she had no obligation to do anything, it was his tent after all, she didn't force him to let her use it. Besides, he was HER escort, if she wanted she could just dart off into the forest and leave him to decide between his duty and his precious tent, she was doing him a favour merely by staying there.

Markus wondered briefly what the woman had dreamt about when he had interrupted her slumber. Was there a sharp edge to her tone as she spoke? His eyes narrowed as a crooked smile reappeared on his lips. He was too hungry to tease her about it at the moment. Letting the subject go he just ate his breakfast in golden silence. As he sat there, he wished he had spent the time to built some sort of camp fire. Get some warmth into his cold poor limbs. He threw a glance at the geysers, might as well look at them since he had ventured out here in the first place - he wasn't particularly amazed.

Markus avoided looking at the woman as she spoke during breakfast. He had just wanted a bit of silence before they got to work again. But not even that she would grant him. Not even after he so graciously had provided the breakfast. The food she ate was his and he doubted if she had brought anything for herself. He sighed annoyed as he was down the wonderful dry breakfast with more water. Water he almost choked on as his eyes went wide watching the woman stretch right before him. The way the leather kept to her forms. It did help brighten his mood a bit. He didn't even bother with being discreet as he watched her stretch. If she stretched right before him, he felt he had the right to watch all he wanted. It had not been strictly necessary, but for him to keep up morale, he had needed that boost. So it all worked out in the end. His yawned order was ignored and her rude response had him glare after her as she walked away to do nothing. He sighed annoyed.

Spoiled bitch, why do I have to do all the work. - He had decided to be lenient, but that idea was gone now. The squire got up from his seat and emptied the tent and then began taking it down. He was supposed to be respected and not treated like a servant. When the tent had been packed and all of their gear had been gathered and packed. Of course the squire would carry it all, again. But he didn't complain, instead he looked suspiciously innocent when he stood behind the woman and offered her a hand to pull her up.

"Raven, we should go now. Might make it back to Syliras before they stop serving lunch." Markus didn't give a flying petch if he made it back before lunch, it was just a minor part of a deceptively ploy to lure the woman into a false sense of security. For a squire who had spent the better part of three years feigning innocence when he had petched up, he knew how to look. His hand still offered to the woman and he would wait for her to get up before he continued to speak. Either with or without his assistance, but he hoped she would take his hand. Only for them to be that bit closer when he sprung the trap.

"I shouldn't have woken you like that, I just figured you could use something to cool you down." The innocence in his voice and expression gave way to a sly smile, it might have warned the woman that there would be more. That he had been leading her on. "After all those naughty dreams you had of the two of us."

Raven sat there while the squire went about his chores of packing everything for their trip back, a small groan escaping her lips at the thought of the long road ahead that she'd have to spend with the obnoxious man. The only silver lining was that he'd probably be even more annoyed with her for refusing to help, so with any luck he'd be silent for most of the trip, he was at his best when he was silent and she could just look at him.

Her thoughts were interrupted by his voice which was now suspiciously lacking annoyance of any sort, was she supposed to believe that he had suddenly turned sincere? Amber eyes rose up the man's massive form which looked even more intimidating now that he was looming over her while she sat. The expression on his face seemed to echo his voice which caused Raven's brow to raise as she eyed him suspiciously, perhaps he just really wanted her to comply so he could get home to his meal? It was possible, men were always thinking about food after all and Markus was a giant of a man.

With a small sigh she took accepted his help, placing her small soft hand inside his large strong one as she allowed him to pull her to her feet, still a bit suspicious of his sudden change in attitude. Then came the apology, still a bit too sweet for her to believe it completely, but she accepted it none the less, maybe he had really seen the error in his ways and was trying to atone for his mistakes? Against her better judgement she decided to let the transgression slide, even shooting him a very small smile, but a smile none the less. Unfortunately her recently resigned suspicions were confirmed as a sly smile spread across the man's face followed by a comment she had NOT been expecting.

Her amber eyes widened in shock for a moment, he did know? Did he? Was he just prodding? An array of thoughts ran through her mind in a split second before her expression changed to one of disgust as she yanked her hand free of his, "Pig!" she spat as she turned on her heel, hair whipping behind her as she stepped angrily away heading for the forest, hips swaying naturally as they did. Her dying annoyance had been completely restored and then some and she had no intention of speaking to him for the rest of the trip. She was too annoyed to be in his presence right now, she could run and hide, make her way home on her own, but that seemed like much more effort than it was worth, so instead she opted for spiteful silence as her form was engulfed by the forest, quick determined steps leading her further into the overgrowth.

Markus had not expected that he was telling the truth when he poked fun at her. He had suspected there had been naughty dreams, but that he himself had starred in those dreams. His little quip seemed to bring about emotions in the woman that she could not handle. Anger. Shame. Embarrassment? Most likely. She called him pig once more right to his face, but he barely heard her. Stared at her disgusted expression before she stormed away. That was for the better. For Markus' own cheeks were a burning red colour. The woman might notice that Markus did not laugh at her unintended revelation. He was too busy trying to picture her dreams.

She dreamt of us? He finally asked himself. Slowly turning his head to see the back of the girl as she stormed off in a huff. Still, he just stood there. Watching. Thinking. Wondering perplexed. What did we do? He was curious. Very curious. She had not seemed to enjoy his company - the opposite was certainly true, Markus loathed her company. Only redeeming quality about the woman was her beautiful exterior, everything underneath that was a rotten carcass of a spoiled girl in need of being spanked until she learnt discipline. Did I spank her? He thought hopefully as a silly grin appeared on his lips. Markus shook his head and returned from the world of daydreams - he looked for Raven and saw her far off in the distance moving away at the same pace. Not bothering to wait for her escort. Another thing Markus noticed was that it was very uncomfortable to have an erection in his armour.

At least it is only leather and not plate... Look on the bright sides.

Markus didn't bother to call out for her, she would probably just ignore him. Or set a higher pace to try and lose the squire again. So he just trotted after her, his longer legs and determination to not lose the girl of sight meant he would catch up to her soon enough. The squire yawned as he looked to the tree tops for something interesting. A man could only stare at a butt for so long before he needed something fresh to catch his attention. In this case, mother nature. It was summer, life was everywhere. The rising rays of Syna bathed them in a warm glow and Markus could tell it would be another hot day. By midday it would be unbearable - not because of the heat, but because of the company. But he supposed silence was better than listening to the woman. Markus swatted away a bug that tried to land on his cheek. Petching bugs everywhere. Another reason not to enter the wilderness on some stupid trip to the geysers - for no other reason than to see the spectacularly uninteresting sight.

Soon Markus walked beside the woman. Keeping his eyes straight ahead and far away from the woman beside him. He already preferred walking behind her. Least the view was more interesting than the look of an angry woman. Still, he would not break their silence. Instead he welcomed it - except he was genuinely curious about her dreams. But any attempt to think of a way to mention them, without invoking her wrath again had been hard.

Jerks and Teasers [Raven]

Raven continued to walk on in complete silence for a long while after, not bothering to check if Markus was following close by or not, as if she cared. Had he known? He must have known, she must have said something in her sleep. Well, even if he didn't know, he surely knew now, then again, he was probably ignorant on all things other than the 'knighthood'. Besides, what was she so embarrassed about anyway, it's not like anything had happened in her dream, she'd followed a silhouette through the forest and it ended with Markus in the lake, okay so he had been naked, but that had actually happened the day before. He was unbelievably beautiful, that couldn't be helped or denied, so why was she so ashamed.

As she continued to walk on, she heard his loud footsteps catch up from behind but didn't dare turn to face him, lest she see the smug expression he surely had plastered on his face at her reaction. A bell or two of silence passed as they walked through the forest and Raven had long since calmed her anger into a passive annoyance, her face relaxing after a few loud exhales, she didn't want frown lines after all. Even now she still hadn't looked at the squire that walked beside her, sure now and then she spotted him with her peripherals but she refused to look directly at him.

By now the sun was shining from above and the forest was beginning to emanate with the heat from it's rays, making the trip slightly more uncomfortable than it already was. Raven's current driving force was the determination to get back to Syliras and out of Markus' presence for good, although she could admit to herself that she was being a bit over dramatic, but there was no way she'd tell him that. The forest was beginning to get denser with every few strides, the trees growing closer together and leaving narrower paths to take now and then, which forced Raven to walk in front of the squire instead of beside him.

The loud sound of metal against metal echoed through the trees, finally breaking the uncomfortable silence between the two young adults and causing Raven to come to a sudden halt in front of Markus leading to him bumping into her from behind. Her amber eyes widened for a moment as she felt his massive form pressed against her smaller frame, her teeth biting down on her bottom lip as she was reminded of the muscle beneath his armour. With a small shake of her head Raven rid herself of the arousing thoughts and back to the more important one, the noise they'd heard.

"Did you hear that?" she winced as she heard the words escape her mouth, realising that she had been the one to break the silence, in her mind it was a loss. By now her curiosity had already been peaked as to what could be happening this far away from civilisation and without waiting for Markus' response Raven went into stealth mode, knees bent and feet placed carefully so as to not make a sound as she crept closer to the source of the sound which had come from nearby. By now she already had a subconscious checklist to go through when sneaking which seemed to grow in size but shrink in attention requirement as she improved at remaining undetected. Legs crouched, hands out for balance, watch where you step, slow your breathing and always keep something between yourself and your target if possible.

Soon enough Raven found herself standing behind a large tree, certain that whatever was making the noises was right on the other side, she could hear the manly laughter as metal continued to clash(she had long since realised it was the sound of sword on sword) and once again she was overcome with curiosity as she reached up to a nearby branch and quietly pulled herself up into the tree so that she could peer down at whatever was going on the other side, the leafs serving as cover. Since she'd begun sneaking, Markus had all but disappeared from her mind, almost completely forgotten as she stared down from the tree to see two dirty looking men, sparring although she was certain she'd heard at least three different voices. The look of the men unnerved her slightly, making her want to remain hidden more than before, they clearly weren't knights or squires or part of any military faction, so bandits was her first assumption.

Under usual circumstances the squire would have been bored with the silence. Annoyed that the two did not talk about something, even if the subject was insignificant. But the person in question, he knew would probably reply with a condescending remark. Something that would belittle Markus' attempts to start a conversation. Besides, he would not be the first to break the silence between them. Instead he focused on the path ahead. To home. To safety. To other people than Raven. Markus fished out his waterskin and with a small crooked smile on his lips, he considered splashing more water at the woman beside him. Just to see her infuriated again. But discipline won and he drank of the supply. No need to be conserving with the water, they knew of a lake on their way home. Besides, he was already starting to feel hot from the rays of Syna baking him under the canopies.

The woman walked ahead then. Markus slowed down to reattach the waterskin to his backpack. His gaze went south automatically and her hips swayed right in front of him. He felt the desire for her again. But he knew she was just a tease. Nothing would come of it. So devoured by her swaying hips was he, that he did not notice she had suddenly stopped. He walked into her. One hand on her shoulder the other at her side. Before he quickly stepped away. About to apologize when she spoke first. Had he heard something? He remained silent. Tried to hear what she had spoken of, then he heard the sound. An all too familiar sound.

Combat.

Knights in combat against someone? Bandits succumbed to in fighting? Rival bandit gangs laying claim on some loot? Or just someone fighting a wild creature. Raven knelt before him. Markus raised a brow. What the petch was she doing? Markus watched the woman as she curiously and quite gracefully, he noticed eagerly, moved to hide behind a tree. Markus heard the laughter soon after as the combat continued. The men fighting were friends, or at least one of the combatants was a psychopath enjoying the slaughter of enemies.

Either case, did not bode well to the two people.

"Raven, get back here." Markus hissed through his teeth. Realizing the foolish woman had chosen to approach the strangers. Is she bloody insane? Markus growled and almost yelled at the woman, but that would give them away for certain. He knelt as he slowly put down his oversized backpack. Withdrew an arrow from the quiver and the composite shortbow he had borrowed from the knights. Just a single arrow to keep them wary. His left arm was pushed all the way through the straps of the shield so he could still hold the bow in the left hand. Awkwardly, but one arrow was all he needed. The annoyance went out the window as his heart beat began to quicken and adrenaline began to enter his blood stream.

This he had been trained for. Babysitting a spoiled rich kid he had not. This felt more natural - even though he had never engaged in open conflict where the intention was to kill. He hoped he could get Raven down from the tree.

Raven in the tree, what do you see. Markus shook his head and focused on the task at hand again. Tried to move as gracefully as the female, but he was not as agile nor as silent. But the men were having their fun sparring, so he did not have to be the best. He hid behind the tree and took a peek over the side. Two men. He could see. He looked up at Raven. Directly under her, gazing right up at the stretched leather over her swe- Focus! - He turned his gaze towards the men again. One of the men deflected a strike and as his laughter roared his gaze fell right on Markus' exposed head. Markus tried to pull his head back. He knew he had been made. But still, he silently prayed to Wysar that it was not so. That he remained undiscovered. The subsequent yells for the others that they were not alone had him sigh loudly.

"Stay the petch where you are, Raven. When you see your shot, get the petch out of here." Bandits... They might be merciful towards Markus and end his life quickly. But a pretty woman like Raven... her fate would not be as generous. He supposed he knew this day would come - he would stand out to defend an innocent person. Petch Markus wished that person wasn't Raven, but despite her haughty attitude and utterly despicable nature, he could not abandon her to deal with this alone. Markus stepped out. Arrow nocked on the string of the composite bow. Still not drawn, but close enough that he could get a shot off in a tick. His dark green eyes gazed at the men as the two turned to face him. Only two men. He could easily handle this, he was a syliran squire, worth at least two bandits in the forest - that was his firm belief, however.

"Wysar grant me the strength to endure." Came the not so silent prayer from Markus. He was large for his age. Large enough to warrant some concern from the men. But Markus saw another man come running to join the others. He was pulling his pants up - had probably been out to relief himself. That brought half a smile to Markus' lips despite the mounting tension.

'What do you want boy?'

Markus paused. How did he respond to that? He was the guy showing up out of nowhere and had been spying on them. Did he even have cause to attack these men, even if they were bandits? It was not like he had any proof.

"Seriously, petch you Raven." He whispered under his breath.

'Speak up boy!' Markus was getting annoyed with this man, he was old enough to not be called a boy. Even by men of their age. One looked in his late twenties, the other, younger. A resemblance between the two men who had been sparring. Brothers perhaps? Cousins was also an option. The third guy, a little plump, but taller than the other two. He certainly got his fair share of the spoils Markus crudely noted. The other two, leaner, shorter than Markus but not by much.

"Just passing through. Heard combat and came to investigate. I am with the knights, so you three better just move along." Markus looked a little like shyke, his hair was in a decent shape. His armour was dirty and made of leather - certainly not the iconic plate armour of the knights. There were many holes in his story - despite it being the truth. The laughter between the three men only solidified his assumption that they were up to no good. Might have been hunters, but hunters rarely carried around swords. Was a terrible weapon to hunt with.

'You out here alone, boy?' - Markus just looked at him with a baleful glint in his eyes. Refused to answer his question, any answer but the truth would be an affront to Tyveth, so silence was the better option. 'I asked you a question.'

"And I chose not to answer. Deal with it, old man." Markus retorted with annoyance in his voice. He hated being called boy. The old man retort escaped his lips before he could stop it, but he did not regret saying it, for the older man looked to his buddies. Markus turned his back to the men. An open provocation as he walked away. He had seen their weapons, a pair of swords and the third man had had some sort of axe. He did not recognize the specific type, but they all looked the same to him. A farmers tool. None of them ranged. He casually walked up to the backpack he had left on the ground. A glance had been cast to Raven. A sharp glance. Telling her to stay put, or at least that is what he hoped he conveyed.

If they chose to attack, so be it, but he could hear them follow him. Their heavy footsteps against the forest ground. Markus turned around when he reached his backpack. The three men walked there, passing under the tree. Markus sighed. He had to fight these men? Really. Why? They gaze went to his backpack.

'Got any gold, boy?' - Markus sighed. Always with the desire for material wealth. He never understood these people. One day Markus imagined he would have a pile of gold just lying in his room. Their greedy eyes shifted between Markus and the backpack. It contained food, survival gear, had a tent and pair of bedrolls strapped under it. It looked very uncomfortable. There was a pouch with a little gold in it strapped to its side. Which, unfortunately, jiggled when Markus foot brushed by it.

'Sounds like it. Perhaps enough for me an' my boys to get something to eat in the city.'

"Just get lost before I put this arrow in your filthy mouth." Markus raised the bow and drew back the arrow. Aimed it directly at the man's ugly mutt.

"Back off, shykeface." The threat came easy. The lure of combat had a nasty habit of bringing out a younger version of Markus. A version prior to the discipline his master had introduced him to. A part that was easily enraged and enjoyed by the idea of violence. Those two conflicting emotions flared across his face, left him looking wicked. A disturbing grin on his lips as he glared at them with a fire in his eyes. Did give the men pause for a brief second. Mainly because he had an arrow aimed at the nearest guy's face. One of them shifted his balance, Markus aimed the arrow at him. Another moved. The aim was shifted again. This was no use. He could not keep this up forever. But the three were obviously interested in whatever his backpack contained. Interested enough to not back off even with the promise of at least one of them dying.

"Petch." Raven muttered under her breath when one of the men called out to his friends after clearly noticing Markus fat head behind the tree, she bit her lip fighting the urge to groan loudly at the man's lack of tact. Why had he even followed her, she had just wanted to take a curious peak at whatever was going on behind the tree, but no, he followed and now instead of returning to their trip home she was hiding in a tree and Markus was about to be faced with three not too friendly looking men.

Markus' order to her before he stepped out from behind the tree and into view caused her to close her eyes in annoyance, she so desperately wanted to tell him that if he'd just stayed where he had been everything would have been fine, but it was both too late and not the time. A nervous sting began in her chest as she watched the handsome squire, who she disliked, have a little exchange with the men. His plan was for her to escape while he took all of the attention and more likely, the beatings, another small spoke, this time she realised it was concern for her escort. He may have been little other than an annoyance to her since they'd met, but that didn't mean she wished for him to come to harm, let alone death.

Death. Her amber eyes widened slightly as she realised that this wasn't one of those situations where she could confidently stroll her way through safely, Markus was in danger, she was in danger and the chance of someone else coming to their rescue was minuscule at best, in fact they were more likely to attract even worse odds than to stumble upon better ones. She took a deep silent breath, 'okay, calm down Raven, there's only three of them and Markus is pretty massive and he's a squire, that's gotta count for something.' she thought to herself in an attempt to convince herself that they'd be fine, it helped some but not enough to eliminate the anxiety. One thing was for sure though, she wasn't going to flee like some damsel, no, the entire point of this trip was to prove that she was capable of looking after herself. Even with her determination to be independent, Raven couldn't help but wish her parents were here, they may have been in their late forties, but they were knights and were more than capable of handling such a threat.

Raven forced herself to ignore the inner turmoil she was experiencing and focus on the situation at hand, Markus was now talking with the three men, bow and arrow ready, that would at least be one less to deal with, although she hoped no one would have to die, but if need be, better them than herself and Markus. One of the men was speaking in a loud and annoyingly demanding tone, 'boy' he called Markus, a small smirk crossed Raven's face, he wouldn't like that, not at all. Then it was his turn to respond, which he did, playing the knight card as expected, unfortunately it seemed to have little to no effect on the men. "You out here alone, boy?" came the man's question and Raven's heart sped up in response before she realised that there was no way that Markus would give her up to the men, she may have just met him, but she knew that much at least. In fact, now that she thought about it, he had already expressed many good qualities, he seemed to be carrying himself with confidence even with the odds stacked against him, not to mention he was clearly willing to put himself in harm's way to protect her, something that should have annoyed her but instead she found herself respecting. Maybe Markus wasn't so bad after all.

The 'old man' poke that the handsome squire responded with made Raven bite her lip, even in the current situation she couldn't deny that his confidence and strong-will weren't attractive traits. The men were clearly growing in annoyance as well, especially when Markus turned his back on them and made his way back to his pack, the men following at a safe distance and passing right beneath Raven who had long since frozen on the spot. His glance did not go unnoticed, although it was discarded just as quickly as it had been registered, she refused to stand idly by if anything did happen.

The familiar and usually sweet sound of gold coins, a sound she'd never thought she would dread hearing, caused her to wince. Really? If there had been any chance of the situation being defused it was gone now, thanks to those accursed coins. The men seemed to perk up at the sound only confirming her suspicions, even with an arrow pointed directly at them, god they were stupid.

Markus responded with another tough sounding threat but the men were clearly too determined for the gold now, even Raven would have backed down if she knew there was a certainty that someone was going to get an arrow embedded in them, unfortunately these men didn't seem to have that much common sense. The men began testing the large squire, taking turns shifting and watching him change targets, three against one, even if the arrow put one down the other two would already be upon him before he could do much, Markus was a large man, but Raven doubted he was skilled enough to handle that kind of onslaught. It had become painfully obvious that she would have to participate in the coming battle.

The fools didn't even notice when, just as silently as she'd climbed up, Raven descended the tree, with their attention completely focused on the large and intimidating form of Markus she hardly had
to worry about them finding her out before she chose to make her presence known. Her mind was racing, sure she had some training, sure she was a capable fighter(in her mind at least) but she had never been in an actual battle, let alone one with armed men, so as calm and determined as she seemed on the outside, Raven was a ball of nerves on the inside as she inched slowly, carefully and quietly up to the men's backs.

She thought back on her many training sessions recalling something she'd been told several times, 'You're capable yes, but you're still no champion fighter. You're focus should be your agility, strike quick, yes, but most importantly, evade.' the words only made her heart beat faster as the adrenaline began to pump. It was time. Not daring to look at Markus, not wanting to see the dread his face was most probably expressing, Raven snuck up behind the left most man, one of the sword wielders, he would be her target.

Mustering all the courage she could, Raven finally made her surprise attack, her current priority being to disarm the man in order to level the playing field. Her leg shot out striking the back of the man's knee followed immediately by a rough and hard pull on the man's collar sending stumbling back a step or two until inevitably landing roughly on the ground with a grunt. She wasted no time in darting towards the downed man and kicking his wrist as hard as she could causing the man to release his hold on the blade with a loud scream. Two for Markus, one for her, her plan seemed sound, at least in theory.
