Special thanks to ZoeStead of DeviantArt for initially providing this awesome picture and to Lelio (correct me if I'm wrong) for cutting my character brilliantly out of the picture

The Basics

Race: Human.
Birthday & Age: 7th day of Fall of the year 489 AV | 21 years old.
Gender: Male
Name: Derric

Physical Description
It was quite the average day in Syliras. The sun shone brightly overhead, casting it's magnificent light onto a certain street performer and his act. The performer, named Derric, was tall, standing at 6' 9" and weighing 232 pounds, yet his height was hardly a source of intimidation. Quite the opposite, in fact. When Derric began to perform the atmosphere, normally filled with a sense of urgency due, mainly, to various citizens hurrying about their day, lightened considerably. A crowd began to storm around him, curious as to what this man was about. His light brown hair had been crudely cut towards the upper section of his neck and combed by unprofessional hands. He is far from muscular but not at all fat, rather he is nothing more than slim and tall. Derric's green eyes gazed upon his growing audience, making contact with as many individuals as possible as he shuffled a deck of cards, his muscle memory handling the actual shuffling part, while he explained the first part of his performance. "I am looking for a volunteer for this next trick," he spoke in a crisp, sweet voice, that was filled with charisma. He turned his entire body, quickly scanning the crowd before settling on a woman who happened to be raising her hand. "You there," he said, pointing to the woman with a hand that rested somewhere between pale and olive in terms of skin tone. As she walked up to join him, Derric fanned out the deck of seemingly normal playing cards. "Pick a card..."

Character Concept
"... any card."

He smiled kindly as the woman took her time looking for a card to grab. To perform like he did, one had to be patient, and Derric was incredibly so. Years of performing had proved incredibly useful as far as teaching him that lesson. The performer was rather extroverted as well, another trait that was a necessity for any magician's repertoire of characteristics. He was an actor after all, and actors could not afford to be shy in any way.

Derric was quick too, as he would need to be to pull off even the most simple of tricks. The lady selected a card and the magician withdrew the rest of the deck while asking her to memorize the card. He then turned around, back to the audience, and spoke again, "Now show the card to everybody here. Give them a moment to memorize it." He counted to ten in his head, more than enough time for the crowd to memorize which card it was. "Now," he said, turning around as the woman held the card close to her as if trying to stop the performer from seeing it. How silly, it's as if she thinks I don't know she is holding the three of spades.

-------------------------

Yet, in a way, Derric has two entirely separate personalities. While on stage, he performs with the same intensity and overall attitude that he had on that average Syrliran day. However, the moment he finished stowing his cards back into his beloved wooden box, as soon as he collected his last tip, that was when he changed. It wasn't as sudden as it would seem, however the change did occur.

His shoulders drooped at first, followed by the rest of his body slowly relaxing itself. Then, as Derric counted the coins he had made from that day's performance, he changed direction entirely. His new destination: The Rearing Stallion. For Derric, there was nothing better than a night of alcohol to ease his nerves and let loose a little. As perfect as the Magician is when it comes to performing, he has a certain... Weak side. One that he tries not to let those he captivated see. Besides, if it isn't killing him, how bad can something so great be?

Character History
Pre-Creation:
"Note"So yeah, this history could use some work. I'd much rather you look at the physical and concept sections than take his history into mind when you RP with Derric. However, I'm always up to suggestions and if you find any gaps between what Derric is really like and his history, please feel free to PM me.
Derric can't remember much about his family. In fact, the only vivid memory he has of them is from the 32nd of Summer in 456 AV. The magician remembers it like it was yesterday:

It was busy market-place in Syliras. The sun was hidden behind a cloud, casting a shadow over everything. The smell of fish hung in the air, complemented by other, less overpowering stenches. It was his first time in the market, just him and his father. His father! Derric snapped his head away from a stall that happened to be selling a variety of candy. Where was he? He had been standing there a moment ago… Doing a full three-sixty, the little boy scanned the market. Not finding his father he proceeded to run aimlessly around, staring up at every face he saw, constantly hoping the next one would be the one belonging to his dad. He never saw him… In the end he sat down by a box of fish. Tired as the boy was, he still found the energy to sob into his legs. The sun had long since set when he was noticed. The owner of the fish stall found young Derric asleep and rudely woke him up. "Darn street urchin! Get out! Shoo!"

Derric looked up confused, unsure as to who the man was yelling at. He glanced around, finding no one but the mean man and himself
. A street urchin? Is that what I am now? He was out of tears, and therefore unable to shed anymore as he fled the market…

From there, Derric wandered the streets of Syliras aimlessly. He had come dangerously close to starvation when the performer had found him. She was a magician, he would soon learn, and her name was Sarah. Sarah became a huge part in the young boy's life from that point on, caring for the boy, and teaching him how to survive on the streets. She became like a mother to him. After awhile she even began including him in her show. Teaching the boy several magic tricks. Oh, he was a quick learner, swallowing up complex card and coin tricks within a day or less, his array of illusions quickly adding up and up as time went on. And that was how things went from that point on. She had no real ties to the boy, nor any reason too be nice to him, yet she loved Derric unconditionally. If it weren't for the total kindness of Sarah, the boy could have very well died.

Unfortunately, all good things end eventually and Sarah was already quite old by the time Derric met her. Shortly after the boy turned 18 his second mother passed away, leaving him with a box that he would treasure forever. The item itself was simple, however its contents were the important part. The small box contained several items that Sarah had used in her performances. Two decks of her favorite playing cards, a few circular bronze disks, a simple blindfold, "invisible" string, and, at the very bottom of the box, a Sarah's final words scribbled onto a simple note.

The death hit him hard, but Derric could not afford to sit around a mourn. Instead he took the skills that Sarah taught him and began working for himself, making tips that he could keep for himself. Over time he continued to hone his skills and experiment with new tricks. Sure his history isn't pleasant, but Derric turned out alright.

Post-Creation:
Fall 68th:
- Grew bored of Syliras and jumped at the chance to head to Alvadas on the thought that the illusions would be awesome for a performer such as himself

Fall 70th: NOTEThis is incredibly ugly, it's more of a little timeline that'll probably just grow more unorganized with time
- While on the boat to Alvadas, a powerful illusionist tried to destroy the minds of the passengers and he, along with Pain, Aselia, and Hadrian, were forced to do what they could to save their lives
- Also on the boat, he met an illusionist named Senessa Avenca, a character he would definitely be keeping in his mind
- Senessa, after having defeated the rogue illusionist, told him that she, as well as Ionu, had her eyes trained on him, and that when he sorted out his troubles he should track here down

His Current Mission:
Help retrieve a tree sample from the Garden of No Return as well as work towards getting his mind to a more... Peaceful state in order to pursue his dreams of becoming an illusionist.
