[Kendoka Sasaran] Make it Hurt Please (Ragdoll)

There's nothing so satisfying as the pain from a good sparring lesson.

Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

[Kendoka Sasaran] Make it Hurt Please (Ragdoll)

2nd of Summer, 514 AV

Alaia was a minimalist. Her beautiful apartment in the lovely Pearl House was as bare as it could be nothing really striking about the room except perhaps the self drawn art she leaned against the walls or hung up if she liked it enough. A white coverlet was folded at the base of the bed, far too warm to sleep with it on as the summer made itself known quite boldly. Light curtains floated in a dreamy sleep as the wind pushed in through the open windows lazily playing with the fabric as if even it was too tired to do anything energetic in this heat wave. There was even a small table off to one side that was lovingly cluttered with her drawing supplies as well as a few full grown plants she often used when dealing with herbs.

Standing in the center of the room Alaia held her suvai in between delicate fingers; it had been what felt like forever since she picked up the weapon and as she held it now muscle memory kicked in. The suvai held a certain homesickness for her and she tried to ignore that knowing that she was doing what was best for the path of her life. Positioning her feet shoulder width apart she let her hips wiggle back and forth before she was comfortable in her barefooted stance. Her free hand came up positioned before her chest ready to block the invisible opponent she was envisioning before her while her suvai was held with a deft hand and the point outward.

Alaia’s forearm came up faking a block to her imaginary opponent’s attack while her right hand that deftly held her suvai moved to slice towards the enemies abdomen about the height it would be on the average male. Her feet carried her forward as she bobbed her upper body down to evade another made up attack before she struck out again. Each movement she created would carry her forward or backwards like a silent dance but it wasn’t long before her arms fell to her sides and a frown crossed her lips. It just wasn’t the same fighting on your own against nothing, not even a dummy, as it was fighting against someone more skilled then you. Someone you could learn from.

Placing her suvai back where she typically kept it the konti took a deep breath and looked around her empty apartment for a long moment before she made the decision to look into the Kendoka Sasaran. She had heard wonderful things about it from patients and acquaintances so she figured that was where she needed to look for someone who could best her and drive her into the sweet physical pain one only got from sparring. A moment later she was stepping out onto the street by the docks and weaving her way through the beautiful city of Riverfall to whatever may be awaiting her in the training facility.

The entrance to the training facility was a daunting one for Alaia to stand before. It has been to long since her last spar and she suddenly wasn’t even sure if the people inside could help her considering what she wanted to learn with was a suvai. She wore a pair of loose-fitting white pants that rested on her hips and a long white shirt that fell at mid thigh. Her white sandals peeked out from beneath the pants and her light blonde hair was pulled back in a rare twist to keep it off her neck knowing this summer heat would not be forgiving as she trained. With a deep calming breath she reached out and wrapped a small hand around the handle of the door to the Kendoka Sasaran and pulled it open.

The sounds that greeted her ears made her smile. Clanging weapons and grunts of men and women reached her like a welcoming parade along with the sounds of hot breath and the stench of sweat all mingling into the perfect concoction for a well established school. Her eyes tracked the movements of a nearby group watching them, their feet and their bodies moving in opposition to each other as they each tried to get the upper hand. The room was full of chaos, beautiful chaos and the apprehension the petite Konti had been feeling before she stepped in seemed to wash away. She was suddenly glad that she decided to make the trip over here and further her skills – now it was just time to find someone to teach her. Bright blue eyes scanned the room for the Grand Master so she could set up the proper teacher for her level and weapon of choice.
