Home of the Konti people, this ivory city is built of native konti stone half in and half out of the sea. Its borders touch the Silverwood, and stretch upwards towards Silver Lake, home of the infamous konti vision water. [Lore]

First Fortune

late morning

Eleret hit the front door almost -- almost -- at a run. She fumbled at the handle, trying to both hang on to the bag in her hands and yet free up enough fingers to manage the latch. The Konti child only wound up dropping her prize, groaning in frustration. But that did enable her to get the door open at last. Shoving the door wide and snatching up her fallen bundle, Eleret stepped inside to find her older sister blinking at the doorway, an inquiring tilt to her head. On another day, the younger Konti might have been embarrassed, self-conscious, or even annoyed at the lilt of humor in Ne'len's expression -- but not today. Today, this very day, she was twelve years old and altogether too excited to be bothered with mundanities.

"Lennie! Lennie, look what Grandmother gave me!" she declared, padding in to join her sister at the dining table. The table surface was partly occupied by the remnants of Ne'len's lunch, rice and fish and stuff Eleret wasn't even slightly interested in just now. Eleret also entirely missed the sound of their mother's footsteps behind her, the click of the door closing in her wake, or the affectionate glance her elder relatives exchanged over her head. Her only thought was for the bag in her hand, which she brought up and plunked onto the table, accompanied by fibrous rustling and a chiming, glassine rattle.

Ne'len obligingly pushed her dishes aside and bestowed her attention upon the birthday girl, hands folding neatly in her lap. "What did Grandmother give you?" she asked, providing the expected cue.

"These!" Eleret declared proudly, upending the bag and scattering a multitude of ceramic tiles across the table. A set of runestones, cast from clay and glazed the soft yellow of sand, marked with symbols in the greenish-blue of the sea. Ne'len recognized them instantly, of course; once upon a time, an identical set had been gifted to her. She picked up the one marked with a dolphin leaping over waves, emblematic of the sea and the god who ruled it. She studied the tile for a brief time, turning it over between her fingers, then extended it to the younger girl. "Will you tell my fortune, then?" Lennie asked, smiling affectionately.

Of course Eleret would. She wanted nothing more than to show off -- and use -- her new favorite possession.
