Looking for more of a long term influence in Shane's life.

Postby Shane Wallsly on August 26th, 2014, 10:37 am

I was walking home from the supermarket alone last night and something occurred to me. I think I learnt something from Mizahar. I was thinking about how most of the races get +10 in a few choices and Humans get a +15 of any choice. I remember someone once explaining it as being there to counter the merits of being a part of the other races. Not so much merits like being able to turn into a giant snake or having superhuman strength but the merits of community. Humans, especially in Miz, live in fractured communities. They don't share as much of a race bond as the other races do. Would an Akalak unquestioningly help a fellow Aakalak? Probably. Would a human help a fellow human in need? Less likely.

The other races have a bond and a culture that is a stronger benefit than choice and 5 extra RB. Of course I took it for Shane because it worked for his character more anyway. Now, however, I am thinking about how much Shane could benefit from a PC companion. A friend, a long lost sibling or cousin. Maybe even a lover. Mizahar is a harsh place. It's a little less harsh when you've got somebody watching your back. A little more dangerous when you've got something to lose though.

In any case if you're still with me after my musing I am looking for a companion of any sort. So if you've got a character in Syliras or have always wanted to make one there throw me a PM. We can look out for each other, be involved in each other's plots etc etc. Hey, we could even make Wallsly one of those PC families like the Marin's and the Maze's.

Well. I was going to pop in here, all excited-like, and offer up my very new (read: non-established, only lightly-goaled) character for said purposes. I did my research, ran through Shane's CS...

And darned if they don't seem to have almost nothing in common to explain any sort of friendship. But, if you find yourself lacking in better offers, Sydelle is fresh from the Outpost and would love to make some acquaintances in the city.

I don't know about a familial connection, but I suppose, barring all else, they could be distant cousins four times removed or some such. Ah, the benefits of newness. Nothing is established and there's room to grow in any direction. :D

Ah, well, Shane's CS is terribly out of date. Well less out of date and more Shane isn't represented well at all. I haven't even mentioned the rules since Spring. I envisioned this kind of downtrodden person living strictly by these rules to 'win' Mizahar but at the end of the day Shane kind of ended up different. Ever had a character get away from you like that?

People seem to find him oddly charming or at the very least normal. Oddly enough he comes off as a bit of a goofball. Don't take my word for it though. I guarantee you'll be surprised by the end of your first thread. So why don't we just have ourselves a little thread, see how the characters mix and decide if they should ever meet again.

Am I right in thinking Sydelle might be a tailor? Shane needs some new threads. Sorry, I am a merciless pun artist.

That may or may not have happened to me once. Or four times. I'll never tell.

Actually, its why my characters now tend to not have firm plot in mind when I start out. I give them a general direction and they sort of take over from there. We argue less that way.

But yes - Sydelle is a tailor by trade (just barely). Also she dabbles in fortune telling, which I really thought was going to be a bigger part of her character than it has been. That's what I get for planning.

Anyway, to cut through the rambling, yes - a thread sounds great. And puns are a guilty pleasure of mine. Those and corny jokes. As in:

What does a nosey pepper do?
Answer :
Gets jalapeño business.
