Sunberth Docks

Of all the mundane things that could have happened to her, not once did Elyra ever suspect this possible outcome.

Her morning tour of Sunberth hadn't seemed to be anything special. In fact, because of how unexciting the city was, she'd decided to extend her trip and walk to the docks-something she rarely did because of the chaotic hustle and bustle that was, though common to Sunberth, mildly disconcerting for the feline. She was always worried about getting stepped on or trampled, especially since sailors often carried heavy loads and they tended to look out, not down towards their feet where she would be. Not only was it likely for a small cat to get stepped on, it was very possible that she could fall into the water. That idea petrified her more than anything else-after all, it was common knowledge that cats couldn't swim. Though she'd never tried, it wasn't a risk that the young Kelvic was willing to take. So it was with great caution that Elyra stepped onto the docks, careful to watch her footing as she woven in between legs, crates, and nets.

But she'd soon learn that there were times when even the greatest amount of precautions one could take would have no effect.

The wood was dark, adeptly camouflaging a small patch of water from her eyes, which were trained on the docks. She placed her paw squarely on the puddle of moisture, sure her footing was fine. And it was until she picked up her other paw, placing most of her weight on one side of her body. The soft flesh of her paw couldn't maintain any friction on the wet surface, and Elyra lost her footing, slipping sideways towards an even bigger body of water.

Sploosh!

Her paws were first to hit the water, quickly followed by her torso and head. An attempt to take a quick breath in rewarded the Kelvic with a lungfull of water. Spluttering and meowing frantically, Elyra began to do the only thing she could think to do. She flailed her limbs around in the water, not succeeding in doing much of anything besides splashing herself.

"Help!" she mewed desperately, though the word wouldn't be recognized by any humans nearby. All they would hear would be a meow.

Learning to Walk Again

Postby Ceto Driftwood on October 2nd, 2014, 6:13 am

Ceto sat on a crate next to her ship, legs propped on the lip of the ship. A bottle of rum, with the rum slowly disappearing more and more with every passing chime. Ceto stared out at the sea, she longed to sail it again but she had work to do. The thing she missed the most was her taven Ladon, he was a big lovable thing. She enjoyed riding his back more than she did sailing her own ship, there was a freedom the sea gave you that you couldn’t get anywhere else. That freedom was amplified when you rode upon the back of a whale in the open sea.

Ceto didn’t have time to think about that as she finished her bottle tossing it into the boat the sound of glass clinking together could be heard. Other things had demanded her attention the scene of a cat sliding down the docks and into the water seemed to be the main one at the moment. She couldn’t help but think of how ungraceful this cat was, weren’t they supposed to be nimble and always land on their feet.

She walked to the edge of the dock and watched the cat struggle; it was kind of funny she thought with a smirk on her face. The frantic meowing and splashing was a bit much for Ceto though she knew the cat would drown soon and the noise would stop, but she wanted the noise to stop now. She gave a deep sigh and knelt down on the dock plunging her hand into the water and pulling the cat up just as it started to sink into the water. Ceto stood back up holding the wet feline at a distance glaring at it, almost in disgust before walking over to her boat dropping the cat lightly onto the deck of the boat.

“Well cat, this is your home now” She said with an annoyed tone. Ceto didn’t really want the cat, but she had begun to have a mouse problem since she docked at sunberth. The cat seemed like the perfect solution all she had to do was feed the clumsy animal and it would keep coming back if it even left in the first place.

“You thirsty? I think I got some milk around her somewhere.” Ceto did have milk at one time, but she couldn’t find it and the animal was more than lucky she didn’t. She had bought that milk 3 weeks ago and had left it sitting on a crate, about 3 days ago a bum had saw it lying out in the open and grabbed it and ran. So after a while of digging through her storage, she found what appeared to be a bottle of water and grabbed a wooden bowl. Ceto set the bowl on a nearby crate for the animal pouring the liquid into the bowl, if Ceto hadn’t been inebriated. She might have smelt the alcohol she had poured into the bowl for the animal, but being that she smelled like alcohol. The smell went unnoticed to her as she poured the drink into the bowl for the animal.

Learning to Walk Again

Just as she'd begun to accept a watery death, Elyra was hauled up by the scruff of her neck and deposited without gusto onto a boat. Gratitude filled her as she collapsed onto the deck, quaking from fear and from being cold and wet. She remained where she was for a chime or two, getting a feel for the boat and her rescuer.

Wait a moment...her new home? Thanks but no thanks. She made a valiant attempt to stand on her own feet, but the new sensation of the boat rocking back and forth proved too much for her to handle. She fell back down, now feeling the full effects of the cold water. The Kelvic settled for shaking her head violently in an attempt to not only get some of the water out of her fur, but to express her distaste at the idea of being a ship's cat. A home, perhaps, but living on a swaying boat day in and day out was not the life for her. Sunberth was the only place she'd ever known and Elyra had no intention to leave at the present time.

The idea of milk appealed to her greatly. She was thirsty for water that wasn't forced into her lungs, suffocating her. Perking her ears up to indicate her interest, she would wait for the sailor to get the beverage for her before she moved.

When she set the bowl down on a crate, the feline stood up again and managed to keep her footing this time around. She leaped up onto the crate nimbly, all four paws landing straight on the wooden surface of it. Had she not just taken a dip in the water and inhaled a great deal of said liquid, some of which was still up her nose, perhaps Elyra would have smelled it before she went to drink it. As the situation was, the smell didn't hit her until it was too late. She crouched down in front of the bowl and lapped at the clear fluid, disappointed that it wasn't milk but grateful that it was something.

A foul taste filled her mouth. Three drinks of the stuff later, she realized that this wasn't water at all.

Yowling, she swatted at the bowl, knocking it onto the deck of the ship before whipping her head around to face the woman as if demanding she explain herself. Her teeth bared and her tail whipping back and forth behind her, Elyra let out a hiss.
