Particularly slender, even for a Symenestra, Vendaril has a gaunt stature - not helped by the typical ashen features of all his kind. He has long, neatly kept hair -the colour of dull satin- running straight down his back. His eyes have the faint colour of amethyst, but are for the most part a vague grey. Others typically see Vendaril as frail due to his proportions, but those who grow to know him learn that his physical delicacy has resulted in a strong mentality, and a cunning mind. He has learnt that in order to counteract his lesser strength he must avoid being struck by any enemy. He manages this by practicing acrobatics to dodge blows and evade attackers. The use of weapons is has never appealed to Vendaril and when forced to fight he utilizes the gifts of his race, fang and claw. Typically seen sporting his exoskeletal armour, Vendaril has a fondness for soft greens, reminiscent of the jungles of Falyndar, and often wears a long velvet cloak, muted emerald in colour.
Family :
Coming from a long line of pure-blooded Symenestra, Vendaril's Symenestra mother died in birthing, despite an attempt to have the baby cut out prematurely. His father raised him, with help from other members of the web, and when he passed away due to illness when Vendaril was 12, his education passed entirely into the communities hands. His father only ever mated once, and so Vendaril is an only child. Having been raised for a large part of his life by the web instilled a great sense of community in Vendaril, and when he eventually left Kalinor, he saw it as a chance of extending his knowledge of the world on behalf of the web. This upbringing caused the young Symenestra to view all family equally as important, regardless of distance of bloodline. It also led to him viewing those whom he grew close to outside the web as a form of family too.
Life outside the Web :
When Vendaril turned seventeen, the Web asked for him set forth on the Harvest, to find suitable surrogates for birthing. He welcomed this opportunity to prove himself, for although he was expected due to his bloodline to choose a Symenestra to bear his child, he also saw the need to bring surrogates for those whose ancestry was less pure to spare the suffering of the womenfolk. What began as a brief venture became a more or less permanent series of travels, tramping across the continent searching for fortune. He often traveled with companions for short periods of time, but no one stayed for long, splitting paths when they reached their destination whilst Vendaril continued on his voyage. On those occasions when he could not find fellow travelers he would semi-settle in whatever town he happened to be staying in at the time, picking up part time jobs to pay the rent. The few years he spent in the wilderness, Vendaril picked up an adequate ability to track and capture a quarry – both for personal sustenance and his obligations as part of the Harvest. He also learned to camouflage himself in certain terrain, particularly in the areas around his homeland, Kalea. His constant roaming of Kalea has left him with a lasting knowledge of which areas in the wilderness are near water, and which are devoid of predators. It has also gifted him with an uncanny sense of direction, hard earned through hours of trudging in circles through the Kithrean Mountains.
Traits :
Other than his slight build, Vendaril has no particular physical weaknesses as such. However, his willingness to befriend strangers and trusting nature leaves a possibility of betrayal. He writes with his left hand. He was taught fluent Symenos in his youth, and later picked up basic Common and a crude understanding of Lhavitian when he ventured into the open world. He speaks in a soothing tone, with a very light, vague accent.
Outlook :
Vendaril is a worshiper of Viratas but is not especially devout, and prefers to worship privately. He is doubtful about the controversial procedure of removing unborn Symenestra from their mothers prematurely, in no small part due to his own mothers demise. He cannot see how this could work, and has concerns for what possible side effects in the children could be. His views on killing other sentient beings are quite liberal. Being the eldest from his strain of the bloodline, he has embarked on the Harvest, and so views the lives of the species he preys upon, not as inferior to Symenestra, but of less consequence. Whereas he would think twice before slaying one of his own kind, it would be less of an issue to kill one of another race. This is not due to a sense of superiority, but simply due to a desensitizing to the slaughter of these people. He has occasionally been attacked whilst on his journeys, and in instances where he could not escape, he has slain his attacker. However he prefers not to resort to manslaughter, and will not feed upon sentient creatures as a rule.
