Find and Retrieve

Timestamp: 25 winter 514 A.V.
Sarina made her way to the house of the person who was to be her costumer. Having spent some time in the past few day setting up this meeting, she was understandablely a bit anxious. Mostly, she was bored. It had been a long time since Sarina had last been able to plan something big and so she had decided to make this heist an interesting one. Wrapped in her warm cloak her feet her crunching on the snow covered ground.

A row of looming houses stood in front of Sarina as she approached her destination. Her client didn't live in a huge, luxurious house but it wasn't extremely small either. Approaching the door, Sarina knocked lightly on the door's wooden surface. Obviously her client had been anxiously waiting because almost as soon as her hand had pulled off the door it was opened, just a crack so the man inside could see out.

"Come in, now." The man who answered the door was a short stubby man dressed in black silk and expensive jewelry. Sarina smiled coldly as she walked in, following the man. He looked rich. Rich was good when the person with the money was who was paying you. The room represented his wealth as well, filled with nice furniture. There was a large black wooden table in the center of the room, obviously the man had many conferences with people there. There were only two chairs-one at each end of the table. Her client had already made his way to the seat on the far side of the table.

"Have a seat." The middle aged man said in a smooth silky voice, waving his hand towards the seat at the other side of the table. Sarina slid out the fancy black chair, carefully taking a seat.

"Lets cut to the chase." Sarina crossed her legs and propped her arms up on the table, placing her finger tips together. "You need something. I'm good at getting things. What is it you need me to acquire?"

"I had a small expensive vase taken from me a few days ago." The man said looking at Sarina through cold black eyes.

"And you want me to go and take it back for you." A small smirk played over Sarina's face, this was the classic job request. She had been hoping for something interesting. "Just tell me where it is and I'll have it for you before the end of the week."

" Ah, there's the catch." He said returning the smirk. "I don't know where the vase is. Your job it to not only retrieve the pot but to find it."

"I'm not a detective."

"Oh but you will be."

"Is that so?"

"I'm offering to pay you 20 gold mizas to complete this job."

Sarina, who had begun to rise out of her seat, sat back down and leaned forward. "Tell me more about this vase."

Find and Retrieve

The man smirked knowingly, obviously glad he had gotten Sarina to do what he wanted bur Sarina knew spending all that money wasn’t what he had wanted so she wasn’t to upset over his arrogance. “It is an off white vase with the blue image of a pair of elephants on it. It is oval and curves in around the neck. If you are truly as good as you say, you will be able to get it based on that.” The man’s eyes were intense as they stared down Sarina. She was at least a bit happy when he had said she had gotten a good recommendation from someone, though she wouldn’t have been surprised if he had just made it up.

Clasping her hands together once more Sarina stated her own question. “Why is this vase so important? It doesn’t sound all that particular.” She knew she was treading on thin ice asking her employer questions, people never wanted her to do that but she wanted to know what she was getting herself into.

“A family heirloom.” The man replied quickly, too quickly, obviously it was a well rehearsed story but maybe not rehearsed enough.

“An heirloom you are willing to spend 20 gold miza’s to retrieve?” Sarina gave the man a questioning look making sure it also displayed her disbelief by a tilt in her head. “I’ve only known you a few chimes but I know this much about you: you wouldn’t spend that much money on something that you easily replace for much less.”

“I’m not paying you to ask questions. You will get the vase and bring it back to me without questioning me.” Her employers face had grown stern and a bit threatening. Shifting in her hard wooden chair Sarina mimicked his expression, tilting her chin up slightly. She nodded slightly implying she understood.

“Good, I need the vase back as soon as possible. Do not disappoint me.”

Taking the queue that it was time to leave Sarina stood up, hearing the legs of her chair slid against the hard wooden floor. “Until next time.” She gave an emotionless smile before taking her exit. Once back on the street Sarina’s mind raced with ideas on how she would find this pot. She had very little to go on and this was the first job she had ever had of this nature but the prospect certainly excited her. Depending on how this job went she was considering do more like this. It certainly provided more of a challenge than her usual jobs.

She decided that first of all she would need to narrow down who could have taken it. Pulling her leather gloves on Sarina walked towards a place she knew she was sure to get some information: the local bar.

Find and Retrieve

Sarina wasn’t very familiar with this part of town but it wasn’t hard for her to find a bar nearby where she could try to get some information. In Sunberth, bars were everywhere; you could hardly turn around without running into one. All Sarina had to do to find a bar was walk down the street a bit until she found a building with a sign that told her it was a bar. Taking off her gloves and running her fingers through her hair, Sarina walked to the bar and pulled open the worn wooden door. The interior was just as worn and old looking as the door but that didn’t seem to deter its customers. The small room was filled with the sound of people talking loudly, yelling and just generally being drunk.

Stepping through the door way, Sarina pulled the door closed behind her, blocking the cold air out. The place reeked of alcohol. Sarina didn’t usually go to places like this but at the moment this was exactly what she was looking for.

Surveying the room Sarina looked for someone she could try to get information out of. Most of the people already had people they were talking with so Sarina couldn’t go and talk to them but she did notice one solitary man sitting in the last chair one the end of the counter in front of the bartender. He had half a mug of a drink in front of him but he looked like that wasn’t the only one he had had.

Walking over, Sarina sat down in the empty chair that was next to the man. “What’s a good looking man like you doing in a bar all alone?” When it came to getting information from drunken men, Sarina found flirting to be her best option. This didn’t look that much older than Sarina was so that helped her cause.

“What’s a good lookin’ woman like yorself doin’ in a bar all alone?” The man replied slurring his words together. Sarina could smell alcohol on his breath as he ran his fingers through his unruly black hair. Sarina smiled flirtatiously leaning in towards the man.

“My man just left me and I’m in the market for another one. What do you say?” Sarina twirled her finger in her hair.

The man smiled wistfully, “Can I buy ya a drink?” He said carefully avoiding Sarina’s question which she didn’t mind. She wasn’t planning to follow through on her offer anyway.

“I’ll take a mug of that berry cider. I’ve heard it can really make you go crazy.” The man returned Sarina’s flirty smile. He waved the bartender over.

“I’ll take a berry cider. Make it quick fo tha lady.” The bartener nodded in response.

“Right away.” He said and walked away.

Sarina turned her attention back to the man, catching his eye. “So, do you like around here?”

“Ye’ just down the street and you?”

“The other side of town.”

“Why are you here? Surely you didn’t come all the way here for me?”

“Have you heard about that man, Martez I think he was called?” Sarina’s decision to go straight to the questions was a bit risk but the man she was getting information from seemed to drunk to care. As she said the man’s name her new drunk acquaintance got extremely pale.Perfect.
