"I'm sorry. We weren't expecting you."
That went without saying, Adelaide thought, as she looked around at the group of surprised actors with a smile. She hadn't been back to the Playhouse since her Father's death.
"Of course not, and yet I am here. After all, this is my family's theatre. You might have checked before starting without me!" It was a reproach but barely, "I've learnt all my lines, after all. If I had not attended this rehearsal, you would have had no choice but to re-cast my part, having missed so many rehearsals, and that effort would have been for nothing."
Octavius smiled, then turned to a young woman with curly red hair standing with her arms crossed and biting her lip.
"Sorry Carla. You've been relegated back to the chorus."
The freeborn woman smiled weakly and nodded and took a few steps back, taking her place amongst the chorus and dropping the sheathe of papers she had been carrying to the side. Adelaide smiled kindly at her, though she was feeling slightly incensed that they had dared even consider re-casting her part.
