Ever since Patcha had left Nivel had been avoided going out to the bronze woods. She could have gotten another mount but her selection was limited and she just didn’t feel right using another. While she used this an an excuse to get her Patron Sera Grey of her back, her real reason was that she felt betrayed and didn’t want to have to deal that again with another mount. She relied so much on her tiny canine that she now felt weak and helpless without Patcha’s furry presence. Knights were supposed to embody strength and help people in peril, so she couldn’t let herself stay in this rut she had found herself in. The only solution she could think of was to go on the longest and most epic solo patrol in the woods any knight had ever done.

Early in the mourning she quietly gathered a bit of clay and a thimble sized water skein and put them into her tiny back pack. She was certain that was all she would really need, but she wasn’t always the best at planning. Once she felt prepared she carefully snuck out of her room, making sure to tread very lightly so as not to wake her sleeping roommates up. If this mission were to mean anything she would have to do it alone, so her plan would have to be a secret.

She continued to creep through the dark musty hallways like a spider stalking it’s next prey. She wrapped her braids around her ears and her tails around her waist so that she wouldn’t be tempted to sway them about and attract attention. She hoped to Harameus that she didn’t get spotted by Sera Grey, lying to the masked women was hard and the pycon knew her former patron would disapprove or want to come along. When ever she hear footsteps Nivel would conceal herself in the shadows in the fear that it was Grey. In the few times it happened it was never who she feared but Nivel continued to hide regardless because it was good practice.

The gate was the last obstacle, and she knew it would take a lot to get past these guards. When the time finally came she simply told the guards she was going out to collect some herbs. The fact that it was a lie could be felt in her wavering voice but without facial expressions and discernible body language it wasn't as noticeable. They gave her a quick nod and she was set free into the woods to start her personal quest.

Syna had blessed Nivel’s expedition with bright and warms light that bathed the scenery. As the pycon walked into the thick weeds and greenery at the entrance of the forest the light became dimmed by the shelter of the trees overhead. The light never lost it's beauty if anything the goddess made the already alluring forest more vibrant and lively with her divine contribution. This should have made Nivel happy as usual but all she could feel was emptiness.

While the pycon did come to the forest alone form time to time, her fondest memories were with Patcha. Even the bad memories where she was fighting for her life, filled her with ache and longing for her missing friend. Nivel couldn’t understand why the kelvic would leave her, she said that she needed to find herself but the squire knew that couldn’t be the whole story. Nivel felt she must have taken her companion for granted, by not grooming her enough and generally showing her proper care. Nivel didn’t really understand the concept of general up keep at first since she personally didn’t need it, she didn’t even require nourishment as regularly as other creatures. The pycon also wasn’t there to console Patcha enough when she was feeling anxiety. All these problems got considerably better with the help of Sera Grey but it didn’t help the internal struggle Nivel was feeling.

When the feeling almost got to much Nivel pushed herself to dance and run through the woods. The constant movement was almost enough to give her tormented Nexus some relief from it’s pain. She would run and jump and flip over obstacles or do a series of twirls and pirouettes around higher objects. Doing all of this got her tired and strained pretty quickly but she pushed through it, and even started to like it. The self inflicted pain seemed more productive than fretting over her lost friendship.

When she finally had to take a breather she buried herself in crumpled leaves and dirt under a protruding root so she could rest without having to worry about being disturbed. As soon as she began to nod off she began to shift wildly as her nexus filled with nightmares. She woke up about a bell later not feeling much better than she did before especially now that she was covered in dirt.

Nivel continued even deeper into the woods until nothing seemed remotely familiar. Nivel was certain she had never gone this far into the woods before and she was slowly starting to realize that she might be lost. The pycon tried to head back the way she had gone but after her nap she wasn’t completely sure which direction was what. As she frantically tried to catch her bearings and get home before it became dark she was unexpectedly swallowed by the ground. The pycon let out a scream of fright as she was pulled into the sky and shaken about. Nivel had failed to notice the workings of a trap before she fell victim to it and was now its captive. She punched and flailed but the tightly woven mesh net didn’t give an inch. The more the Net was shaken about the more she noticed the ringing of the bells over head, It seemed she would have company soon.

Punching and hitting clearly weren’t going to get her out and with the way the net was constructed she couldn’t shift out ether. She eventually got the idea to tear her way out by shifting her arm into a serrated file. She concentrated on the surface of her arm and soon tiny textured spikes covered her arm. She rubbed her arm through the weave in small bursts, taking rests in between to let her arm recover. A few of the fibres came loose and gave way but it still wasn’t enough to get her out. The breaking of twigs amongst the constant wringing of bells made her rush to escape but a something hit the net hard and everything went black.

Nivel woke up again with an throbbing nexus in a foreign and dingy location. She pulled herself up and looked around, it was just a poorly constructed cage made of thin drift wood and twigs. She also wasn’t alone, she noticed a small band of sentient clay moving about the cage. It perplexed her that this cage with the large gaps in its construction was able to hold any pycon let alone a group but then she sensed the real problem. There was a shield surrounding the crude looking cage that was most likely keeping the pycons inside.

“I see your awake” Came a grumbling familiar voice “I know what your thinking, and it won’t work there’s some kind of magic keeping us in.” It was Hammer fist the Pyken martial artist whom Nivel had spared with seasons ago.

“I know” Nivel replied in distant frustration, as she tired to think of a way out. She didn't really care for Hammerfist's company but it was still somewhat of a relief to see someone familiar in this situation.

“Oh” Hammer fist replied with a touch of surprise but her tone quickly grew dismissive. “Oh that's right magic is your thing right?”

Nivel was too busy scanning the aura of the shield to give the other pycon a response, but wouldn't know how to respond ether way. She was having no luck and she was beginning to panic.

“Not that it matters but my name is Scaly, nice to meet you…”She trailed off hoping that Nivel would finish her sentence with an introduction.

“Sorry, My name is Nivel I’m an Mage in the Order of Syliras” Nivel snapped out of her trance to introduce herself. “I’m just trying to find a weak point in the bandits magic but so far who ever put it here is a strong mage” It made her almost feel sick to complement her kidnappers but after intensely looking over the shield that encased them, she could see how tightly and even the weave was. It wasn’t with out flaw but they were few and far between, and could have easily been the creators signature. “Do you happen to know when they usually visit to reapply the shield?” Nivel’s only hope was to wait for the shield to deteriorate with time and find a weak point to exploit. She hoped that the bandit mage didn’t straighten it very often or she wouldn’t know what to do.

“Did she say she was one of the Knights?!” Came an bewildered outburst from a male pycon in the distance. He had the upper torso of a genderless mannequin but his lover torso swirled into a sail shell and ended with a flaring trumpet horn. A few other pycon’s from the far corner followed the load mouth pycon over to the other two.

“Shhhh!” Scaly snapped back at the other pycon “ You want to get her killed Trumble?”

“Oh Sorry” Trumble cowered and retreated to the small group that followed him over.

“I knew she was a Mage knight the whole time” proclaimed a confident feminine voice from behind Trumble. It’s source was that of a mannequin pycon who’s head was covered in faces, with one large expressive face covering her torso.

“Shut up Mia.” The group said almost in unison. Scaly looked back at Nivel and let out a frustrated sigh “Anyway, I’ve seen what I can only assume is the leader doing weird hand gestures on the cage every few days, she did it after you were put in earlier today.”
Scaly shot her snake like head back at Trumble and hissed. “You can consider yourself lucky that our guards stepped out for a bit, if they had heard this baffoon they would have surely skewered you.”

“He didn’t know” Nivel replied calmly despite the worry that was plaguing her internally “We need to band together if were to get out of here. I may be with the order but I can’t do this alone I need-“ Her speech was cut short by the arrival of stomping boots chunking against the gravel on the ground near by.

“What’re you little mud piles gettin’ up ta?” The bandit said in an almost sadistic mockery. The deep and gravelly sound of the disembodied voice was enough to send shivers down Nivel’s clay back.
