Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Applying for a Job

Postby Shiniri on November 24th, 2015, 4:02 am

Season of Fall, Day 52, 515 AV (9th Bell)
Shiniri woke up and stretched her arms and rubbed her eyes. The first thing that came to mind was the Riverfall Labor Aid Office - she was going to apply for citizenship and a job. She wanted to find a source of daily income for herself, although she was nervous. What if she filled out the forms wrong? What if she wasn't eligible for a job or citizenship? All these things were racing through her mind faster than a Glassbeak could fly. But she sighed - She could do her best, and that was all.

10th Bell
Shiniri stared blankly at the Riverfall Labor Aid Office. This was the first time she'd actually been inside, and she didn't know what to expect. Either way, if she wanted a job, she'd have to apply and hope for the best of outcomes. She took a deep breath.
"Relax," she said to herself. "I'll... I'll do my best." As these words were spoken, she slowly walked inside.

Shiniri looked around the office, surprised by the inside. She'd been surprised by how simple and ordinary it looked to her. She assumed that it was just her imagination, since she didn't have a taste for design anyway. She walked up to what looked like the front desk. An Akalak was quietly filing some paper there. "Er... Excuse me?" Shiniri asked, trying to sound as polite as she could. "I want to apply for citizenship. And a job." The Akalak tilted his head upwards. He went through his desk and slipped two papers and a pen across the desk.

"Please fill out the following..." he quietly spoke, before returning to his work. Shiniri had a blank expression at this point. Usually the Akalaks she saw were energetic, loud, competitive... This one was quiet. Shiniri shrugged and filled out the forms.

Kuvan Citizenship Form

Name: Shiniri
Race: Human
Age: 14
Competency In: Auristics, Swordplay
Employment: To be decided
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Currently indefinite

Labor Assistance Form

Name: Shiniri
Race: Human
Age: 14
Relevant Skills: Auristics, Swordplay
Preferred Employment: Something that can support me
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Currently indefinite

Afterwards she quickly skimmed the sheets for spelling errors, then handed it back.

Applying for a Job

The Akalak didn't seem to notice the leaflets of paper on his desk, but noticed in only a few seconds. He took a look at the forms for a second, and then looked up at Shiniri. "Do you know where the Kendoka Sasaran is?" he asked, sounding a bit louder than before. Shiniri scratched her head. She'd felt like she had heard of the 'Kendoka Sasaran' before, but she couldn't remember. "I... Seem to have forgotten," she replied, her voice slowly becoming quieter. "I see. When you exit..." he explained, standing up, pointing at the doors. "It should be directly east of here. It's a ten-chimes walk. I'll have Mizra know you're coming for a competency test in swordplay..." he trailed off, and hunched down, looking for something in his desk.

Mizra. The name sounded alien, almost unreal to Shiniri. "Miz... ra?" she said to herself, trying to familiarize the voice. "Yes..." the Akalak interrupted. "Mizra Aqdas. He's a teacher at The Kendoka Sasaran." he continued. Shiniri looked at him in understanding. But the words 'Kendoka Sasaran' made her worry. Would she be going there today? The Akalak took out what looked like a well-made calendar. There were lots of days circled and crossed out, she didn't know what it all meant. "Two days from now, he should be free..." he said.

Shiniri sighed in relief. Two days. She felt invigorated now, excited for the test. She wondered if it would be fun. But it was a test. Tests aren't fun. Usually, anyways. "When you pass your competency test, you should come back here and receive a permission slip for a Kuvan Citizenship Tattoo at Riverfall Ink. As for your employment..." he explained, looking down at the Labor Assistance Form. "The only thing I can think of is placing an ad for you as a mercenary up once you've got your tattoo. They don't pay a lot, but it should be enough to support you."

Shiniri started feeling a bit dizzy. All this information was a tad too much to handle. But she managed to finally take it all in, and simply replied "Ok. That'd be nice." The Akalak nodded, and resumed to his work. Shiniri sighed. All this was now nerve-wracking for her, not exciting. She felt scared that she would pass, and she would be broke and unable to buy food and drink. She shuddered and felt a chill down her spine as the thought crossed her mind. To get her mind off of the test, she initiated a conversation. Or at least tried to.

Applying for a Job

"Um... So who are you?" she asked, voice cracking a bit. She hid it well, and the Akalak didn't seem to notice. "I'm... Malix. It's a pleasure to meet you..." he replied, before going back to his work. "You're nervous for the test, aren't you?" he continued, not looking up from his paper. Shiniri looked surprised, but sighed and rolled her eyes. "I guess I didn't hide it that well, huh?" she said, blushing a bit. Malix tilted his head slightly. "It's natural. Lots of people that have applied for jobs are nervous. You're no different." he said, trying to reassure her. "Even if you fail, you can always apply again. Although Mizra might get sick of you." Shiniri snickered at his words. She thought they were somewhat funny, and she cheered up a bit. "Thanks for helping me apply." she replied, and took her leave.

Shiniri walked back to her home when the sight of the giant Valkalah Academy caught her glance in the corner of her eye. Shiniri knew that the Valkalah Library was also located in the academy, and she assumed it'd be beneficial to her to borrow or find a book on swordplay to assist her for her competency test in a few days. She changed route and walked towards the academy.
As she walked in front of the academy, she stopped in awe of the building. The colossal building looked beautiful against the shimmering sunlight of the day, and Shiniri stood there for a few chimes at least before snapping back to reality. As she stepped inside, she could identify the words 'The Valkalah Academy' engraved on the large wooden doors in block letters.

Upon entering, the sheer size of the building nearly overwhelmed Shiniri. There was a reception desk at her left, right, and up in front of her. Torches were lined up against the walls, but one or two of them seemed to almost be going out. She kept walking to her left, greeted by several doors, each with a word or two engraved in small letters. Smack dab in front of her the door said 'Basement'. Shiniri stepped through it, knowing the library was not far. She continued down a flight of stairs, and stepped through another door.

Moderator Intervention

The Issue(s): You are beginning to irritate me utterly. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU APPLY FOR A JOB. You PM me and answer all my questions thoroughly. You don't just say 'hey I need a job' then write this crap out in the regular forums.

Again, see me for a job. Answer my questions thoroughly. And that goes for your Kuvan test as well. I'm really really really thoroughly tired of you not listening.

PM me when you have the above issues corrected and this intervention will be removed.
