11th Winter 515, A.V.

Jasmine got up and yawns rubbing her eyes trying to help herself wake up by moving some. She was stiff as the last few days had been rough trying to get some training done. Jasmine walked out of her tent sighing gently as she was still stiff from a rough night trying to sleep, but unable to find a peaceful slumber as she once did when she was younger. Jasmine rolled her head around popping her neck several times in a row. Yawning loudly the young girl walked over to the canopy that Chaser uses most nights as a place to sleep out of the weather. Chaser snorted hearing the soft foot steps of his rider as the woman walked up to him while he laid on the ground.

“Come big boy,” Jasmine said with a smile looking at the stallion that was still curled up.

Chaser snorted and looked over at the woman not wanting to move as he just put his head back down refusing to move. Jasmine rolled her eyes and shook her head at the stallion.

“Okay hard head I will walk over to work,” Jasmine said and smiles tossing him some carrots before walking to work.

Jasmine smiles and waves to many of the shop owners around the main area of the city. She was at peace just walking around when she does not have to worry about keeping up with Chaser all the time. She loved the stallion dearly, but watching over him had become a rather daunting task to say the least. For a creature so large Jasmine had the hardest time keeping up with him. Jasmine chuckled gently as she walked thinking of how the pair ended up with each other.

Chaser had fought the girl's father tooth and hoof to keep anyone off his back. Jasmine had been young at the time watching her father work his magic with the stallion that seemed to refuse. When night would come Jasmine often out of her tent and ran across the quiet city to where her father kept the wild horses at until they were broken and ready for a rider. Many nights the girl just sat on the ground looking at the stallion as he watched her slowly he became used to the girl's presence near him. As time wore on the girl slowly got closer and closer to the stallion until she was close enough to feed him some carrots and sugar cubes from her hand.

One day shortly after her father had finally thrown his hands up in the air giving up on ever breaking the stallion. Jasmine saw this as her opportunity to step up and show her father that she could take over the breaking of wild horses. Unfortunately her walking up to the horse so easily had the exact opposite effect on her father she had hoped for. Her father blew in to a blind rage screaming at her in front of the men that had been helping her. Jasmine ran from her father in tears to this day he remained furious at the girl because she had shown him up.

Jasmine shook her head as she saw the Guided Horse She wiped away any tears that had dared to well up while she was thinking of her past and smiled saying hello to many of the other works as she walked inside.

Jasmine walked back to the office and smiled gently seeing the horses out in the field grazing ready to be taken care of. The blue eyed beauty grabbed all the supplies she would need for the day and walked out with the list of horses. Scanning the list quickly to see what each mare needed the woman raised her head seeing the first mare on the list. Smiling Jasmine walked over to the mare and petting her muzzle gently.

“Hey beautiful girl,” Jasmine said with a smile and lead her under the tent to start working on cleaning her.

Jasmine smiles and got the hoof pick and began to clean the obvious rocks that could be seen through the mud. While propping up the hoof of the mare the woman grabbed a rag and began to clean off the hoof. After getting the mud off the hoof Jasmine cleaned out the smaller not as noticeable rocks that had been hidden under the muck. Singing gently Jasmine passed the time without much of an issue. At some points while cleaning the mare's hooves the woman thought back to her first day. Shaking her head gently Jasmine looked towards the opening of the tent that served as the door to the Guided Horse. So much had happened since she first started working here. Not only had she met a new friend, but she had also stood up for what she believed in.

Jasmine shook her head and looked away from the opening. Her mind had been drifting so much lately that she was beginning to worry. Sighing gently Jasmine put the mare's hooves down and petted her powerful neck.

“I need to talk to someone just not father,” Jasmine said with a sigh wishing she was able to go to her ankals as others were able to.

Jasmine grabbed her brush and began to clean the coat on the mare thinking. Sighing gently Jasmine slowly stopped brushing the mare wondering when things changed.

“When did we change? When did he start pushing me away?” Jasmine asked with a sad look on her face.

Quickly the woman wiped away the tears refusing to let any whom come in see her cry. Jasmine continued to brush on the mare's coat. The mare neighed and shifted away from the girl as the brushing had become rough and painful. Jasmine gasped and shook her head.

“I am so sorry sweetie. I didn't mean to hurt you,” Jasmine said gently and gave her some carrots.

Jasmine petted the mare's side gently to calm her. After some time the mare finally calmed down and snorted gently looking at the girl.

Jasmine smiles and rubs the mare's coat gently, “easy big girl.”

Putting down the brush Jasmine looked to begin working on the mare's hooves once more. With the brush put away and the pick retrieved Jasmine began once more to clean the mare's hooves. Taking her time the woman cleaned the right front hoof. Examining the hoof to make sure it was clean of dirt the woman began to use the pick and removed the rocks.

“Hm seems they could use a trim and shine,” Jasmine said and let the hoof drop down.

Jasmine got out the file and began the tedious task of grinding the nail down. Sighing gently while wiping some sweat from her brow the girl straightened her back with a soft sigh. She was beginning to hurt more and more in her back as time went on. Jasmine let the hoof fall as she looked at the nail and smiled at it's height.

“That looks much better,” Jasmine said with a smile and grabbed the rag.

Jasmine picked up the hoof once more and buffed the hoof. Looking up the woman heard her name being called. Dusting off her hands Jasmine patted the mare's neck before going to see who was calling her. Jasmine stopped at the opening to the tent and looked around not seeing any one. Shrugging the girl walked back into the tent and began to work on the mare's hooves once more.

Once done checking the hoof to make sure the mare could stand without being in pain; Jasmine smiled and moved on to the next hoof. After some time Jasmine finally finished with the hooves on the mare and wiped her brow once more. Jasmine smiled and went to the the field with the mare letting her run off to her friends. Marking off the mare on the list Jasmine went to get a stallion from one of the mobile posts and walked him inside under the tent.

The stallion snorted and yanked back on pulling against the woman's form nearly causing her to fall. Jasmine gasped and quickly fought to correct herself to keep from falling right on to her butt. Making a face Jasmine turned to glare at the stallion not happy with him.

“Not funny!” Jasmine said with a growl looking at the stallion before walking him on into the tent and tying him up so that he wont move.

Jasmine continued to work on getting the stallion's papers in order. The stallion snorts watching the girl and started to pull on the lead to get free wanting to wander.

“Nice try,” Jasmine said turning to look at him.

Jasmine walked over after putting the file down and grabbed the prickle brush to help her get the knots out of his mane. Pulling some Jasmine scrunched up her face at the force she was having to use in order to remove the knot. Grunting some Jasmine finally managed to pull the knot free.

Painful memories with the horses

Jasmine ran her fingers through the soft mane of the stallion. Smiling the woman never felt the digits on her hand run into any more knots. Putting the brush away Jasmine found the tooth brush and began to work on getting the tartar off of the stallion's gums. Most would not think to check and make sure the teeth were clean. Without proper cleaning a horse could easily get gum disease even with their mostly grass and carrot diet. Of course with each rule about horses there is exceptions with each breed.

Jasmine washed out the stallions hair next to make sure he appeared clean. Smiling liking the way the mane looked she moved on to grad the brush and worked on getting the dirt moved out of his coat. Jasmine got the rag and began to wash the coat off next with a smile. Getting a dry rag the woman dried the stallion off so that he didn't become sick in the cold. Blowing some hair out of her face Jasmine smiled gently and lead the strider around in a circle watching him to see if there was any issue with his walking. Not seeing anything with her eyes Jasmine picked up his hooves once more to check on the shoes. Scrunching up her nose Jasmine bound the stallion once more and walked to speak with the shoe master for the horses. Jasmine smiles and walks over to the man.

“Hello. Can I get you to make a few horse shoes for one of the stallion's? He is in desperate need of shoes from what I can see,” Jasmine said gently.

The man looked up at the girl and stood up straight and popped his back several times.

“Let me have a look at his shoes,” the man said walking over to the girl waiting for her to show him the way.

Jasmine nodded her head quickly walking over to where she has the stallion tied up at. Standing out of the way the shoer looks at the stallion's shoes making a note of which ones needed to be redone and attached. The man stood up and turned to the woman. Jasmine stood up looking at the man when he turned to her.

“Yes?” Jasmine asked looking at the man.

“The left back shoe and the right front shoe need to be replaced good call,” the man said looking at her before walking back to where his equipment was.

Jasmine watched the man disappear before turning to the stallion once more. The Colorsplash looked at the woman who was to be tending to him before snorting. Sighing gently Jasmine knew there was nothing more to be done with the stallion until the man had the new shoes ready. Jasmine decided just to move the stallion back out into the open while waiting. Patting his side as he began to graze Jasmine walked back into the open sided tent to sit down for a few moments.

Painful memories with the horses

Jasmine sat down and grabbed her pack pulling it over to her. Opening the top Jasmine pulled out her waterskin and dug further into her pack finding the dried meat she had managed to remember before leaving home. The woman was finding it harder and harder to keep her mind focused on her work with the season winding down and the move coming. One would think her mind would be focused on moving, but even that did not seem to keep her thoughts occupied.

“Why am I so out of it?” Jasmine asked rubbing her face gently.

Looking around the woman began to wonder if she could possibly go speak with another ankal about everything that was on her mind as of late. Thinking about going to her father Jasmine shuddered and decided to go and speak with someone else about the matters that swam in her mind. Her biggest fear was leaving the pavilion and becoming a semi-rogue if she and her father were unable to mend the bridge that had grown between the two.

“I need to speak with one of the other ankals, but if word gets back to father. He will be furious,” Jasmine said with a sigh and rubbed her face, “why couldn't he just be cool like other fathers?”

Jasmine growled and rubbed her face again. Looking up Jasmine saw the man come back with two new shoes. Putting away her food for the time being Jasmine hurried out and got the stallion bringing him back in under the tent so that the shoes could be replaced. Holding the stallion steady was a job all in its own seeing as he wanted nothing to do with the new shoes.

“Hold still,” Jasmine said and blew her hair out of her face with a grunt.

“This horse knows nothing about staying still,” the man growled in his throat fighting with the girl to keep the hoof as still as he could.

Jasmine growled and pulled the stallion's head down to where all he could see was the ground. Soon his fighting stopped as he could no longer see in front of him. The man grunted to show his approval of the woman's actions. Jasmine figured this would be the easiest way to keep the stallion still. It normally worked on Chaser when he was acting out. At least most of the time it worked. There was the occasion when Chaser would still keep fighting causing her to just let it go for a while till she could grab him when he wasn't focused. Her mind went to the coming season and what all she planned to do as far as hunting and tracking is concerned. Once the man stood up from the last hoof the woman allowed the stallion to raise his head up once more with a smile.

“There now that wasn't so bad,” Jasmine said and lead him around watching to see if the shoes worked.

Thankfully the stallion trotted around the woman with no sign of pain at all. Jasmine signed her thanks to the man and returned the stallion to his post before heading to let the boss know of the replaced shoes.
