A Strange day for injuries

20th Winter 515 A.V.

Jasmine walked into the Guided Horse with a smile and waved seeing several of the other workers already there. She was happy to start her work day. Excitement was the biggest emotion the young woman felt. The Drykas was ready to hit some normalcy after all the craziness so far of winter. Though she highly doubted that it would stop there. The blond woman thought about all the craziness that had happened during the winter. It seemed like everything was going crazy, like the very war itself had not completely ended after all. Shaking her head with a soft smile Jasmine pushed the thoughts from her mind and walked into the office. She put down her bag down before grabbing the list for the day.

“It's a small list today,” Jasmine said surprised.

“Yes, most of the hunters are out at the moment,” the woman that hired the blond drykas said while looking at some papers.

Jasmine nods and put the list away going outside to get the first stallion of the day. She was amazed to see some of the mares and stallions standing away from him. Looking over Jasmine saw why, he appeared to be rather ornery. Knowing this would be a challenge Jasmine took a deep breath and walked over to the stallion with confidence. The stallion snorted watching the human approach him. Jasmine stuck her hand out to allow him to smell her scent. The stallion sniffed the human hand and snorted. Jasmine smiled and took the lead taking him under the tent to start working on checking on his hooves. She noticed that he was walking gingerly while coming in.

“I need to check his hooves they look cracked,” Jasmine said seeing the hooves and wincing some.

Jasmine tied up his lead to the post and went to get her clipped, file, and picker for the hooves. Walking over Jasmine picked the stallion's hoof up and began to remove the rocks and mud. Jasmine saw the hoof coming off of the sensitive bed.

“That's not good,” Jasmine said holding the pick handle in her teeth while gently testing how loose the nail was.

The stallion neighed and tried to pull his hoof out of her grip. Jasmine let his hoof go and went to talk the boss and let her know about the stallion. Jasmine poked her head inside and cleared her throat.

“Yes?” Kelna said looking to the blond in the door way.

“There is something you need to see Mrs Kelna. I know why the stallion has not wanted to be ridden. It's not rocks either,” Jasmine said as the woman looked to her both surprised and worried.

“Okay let's go have a look,” Kelna said nervous about the stallion's health.

“He seems to be in good health, but his hoof is literally coming apart at the seam so to speak,” Jasmine said looking at the woman.

“Coming apart?” Kelna said with a surprised tone.

Jasmine nodded and picked up the hoof showing her the space between the wall and sensitive inside. Kelna gently touched the hoof worried now.

“Is there anything you can do to get the hoof healed?” Kelna asked looking at the woman.

“I can get it clipped and shaped so that the pressure is relieved off the ball of the heel, but in this condition there is no way he can be ridden till the hooves heal properly,” Jasmine said looking at the woman with complete seriousness.

“Okay I will discuss it with the owner upon their arrival. For now get those hooves cleaned up. Then if need be we will take him over to The Healing Hoof,” Kelna said before going to check on the other horses.

Jasmine got a stool and put the stallion's hoof on top so that she could work properly. Getting her nail clippers Jasmine walked over began to cut the hoof nail down. She made a face as she had to put more muscle behind it that she was used to with other horses. Jasmine knelt down and looked at the hoof, smiling gently she put the clippers down. The woman took the file and worked out the uneven areas on the hoof. Jasmine pulled the file away from the stallion's hoof, dusting the shavings off the woman allowed her hand to glide across the surface. She nodded gently and went back to clear down a couple of random spots. After once more cleaning the area Jasmine was happy with how the hoof felt. She allowed the stallion to place his foot down so she could see how it felt. Jasmine backed up and looked at the repaired nail then looked over to the nail across from it.

“That looks much better,” Jasmine said with a smile loving how the nail looked.

She walked around and looked at the side happy. The heel was no longer pressing against the ground was a fantastic sign. Jasmine called over Kelna when she was close by and let her check how the hoof appeared.

“That looks so so so much better and doesn't appear to cause him any pain,” Kelna said knelling down and checking the heel.

“He will still need to be carefully monitored because any kind of rock or something pushing against that tender heel could cause him to throw a rider,” Jasmine said looking at the stallion and patting his neck.

“I agree. For now go ahead and get him evened out,” Kelna said and walked back to checking some of the other horses.

Jasmine smiles and moves the equipment back to the rear hoof. Picking up the leg she positioned the stool and began to work on his nail again. The second hoof did not seem to be nearly as difficult for the woman to clip through. Either the woman was prepared or the hoof nail was far more bitter than the front. Should the circumstances be the later she was worried about if the hooves would heal properly so that he could be ridden by anyone heavier than a small child. Sighing the woman put her clippers down grabbing her file once more. She cooed to the stallion as he calmed down and allowed the drykas to continue her work.

Jasmine continued her work on the hoof and cleaned off the dust once again. She felt along the hoof and nodded at the smooth surface knowing this would give the stallion a huge relief. Letting the hoof fall to the ground once more the horse snorted and looked at the female drykas as if asking when she would finish the next two.

“Give me just a minute big boy,” Jasmine said with a smile and got up stretching.

She walked over to her pack and grabbed some of the dried meat. Taking a bite the woman put the food away and walked over giving the stallion a sugar cube to keep him occupied until she was finished with his feet. Moving around Jasmine started with the back hoof on the opposite side of the stallion. After about another twenty bells Jasmine stood up and stretched causing her back to pop. The stallion nickered and tested his feet by taking several steps.

“That should feel a hundred times better,” Jasmine said with a smile and patted his neck as he pushed his head up against her stomach.

Jasmine laughed and took the stallion out to the field and tied him to a post and went back inside to speak with Kelna before continuing her work. The woman went back out as Kelna nodded seeing the shorter hooves on the stallion. Jasmine was instructed to keep a close eye on the stallion. The blond went on about her work day working on horses who didn't have nearly as much of a problem with their hooves. Most only needed a quick trim or filing so that they were good to keep on working for their owners.

Jasmine was pulled away from a mare hearing what sounded like irritated horses. She cocked her head to one side confused and walked out to figure out what is going on.

“May I help you?” Jasmine asked and smiles seeing an all too familiar face.

“Hey Azmere I didn't know it was you. Do you need us to look over and clean up Hephiestian?” Jasmine inquired with a soft smile to the older stallion, “hey big boy.”

“If you guys won't mind I will be back later to pick him up,” Azmere said and headed out while Jasmine walked Hephiestian under the tent.

Jasmine walked under the tent and patted the stallion's neck so that he could get used to her. The woman allowed the stallion to graze nearby while she finished up with the mare. Jasmine brushed the dirt from the mare's coat with a smile.

OOCI have asked permission to use Azmere and Hephiestian as NPCs. Azmere agreed to allow me to use them!

Jasmine continued to work on the mare's coat soon making it down to her hooves. The woman stood up once more and patted the mare's neck with a soft smile. She cooed on how well the mare was doing while the lady worked on her. After some time Jasmine managed to start working on her hooves.

“A little filing and you will be good to go,” Jasmine said with a smile and knelled down working on the nails.

After a few bells Jasmine finally got the mare completely finished up and allowed her to go graze with the other horses. Sighing gently and wiping her hands on a rag Jasmine turned her sights to the older stallion brought in earlier that morning. She walked over and clicked her tongue to signal her approach to him. The stallion continued to graze as it appeared his hearing was beginning to fail him. The woman began to wonder just how old the stallion was. Gently she touched his rump causing him to jump a little before turning to look at her.

“Sorry big boy I didn't mean to scare you,” Jasmine said gently rubbing his nose with a soft smile.

The woman petted the stallion's neck gently and lead him under the tent with a carrot. She let him eat while grabbing the brush and working through his mane. Making a face the woman hand to pull hard at some areas to truly get the knots worked out. Jasmine blew some of her bangs out of the way while she worked on the last of his mane.

“There knot free,” Jasmine said with a bright smile happy to see it brushed.

Jasmine put the brush away and got her pick out to work on his hooves. The beautiful drykas picked up the stallion's hooves and began to get the rocks out while humming. She had to put some force behind a couple of the rocks to get them dislodged.

“You need to have your hooves cleaned better big boy,” Jasmine said with a smile.

Jasmine continued to work taking a rag and wiping some of the dirt and mud from his hooves. She assessed the stallion's hooves taking a few mental notes. The condition worried her not with the hoof a little filing and he would be fine but the stallion's age was taking a toll on his feet. As well as his breathing and joints from how he was walking earlier.

Jasmine went to speak with Kelna about how to speak with Azmere about losing his stallion soon due to age.

“I agree that he must start looking for another mount to ride, but it is never an easy topic. Don't bring it up till later on after you are off from work and he has had a time to relax some at his home,” Kelna said looking at the woman.

Jasmine nodded and went to finish working with the stallion.

The woman put the last hoof down and sighed gently seeing the usual ware and tare with a stallion of his age. Standing up she took a deep breath and popped her back in several places sighing in relief.

“Much better,” Jasmine said with a smile looking at the nails, “okay big boy lets get you outside and relaxed.”

Jasmine got the stallion moved back out and took on another more difficult case. Jasmine groaned seeing the disrepair of the hooves. She could not understand why some families didn't pay attention to if their horse's shoes are sticking up clearly through the hoof.

“Why do people not pay attention to their horses?” Jasmine asked herself as though the horse standing before her would know the information that the woman was looking for.

“Come on let's go get the shoer to see if he can get those off so we can get them healed before your owners decide to reshoe you,” Jasmine said with a sigh rubbing her face.

This work day had turned into a very tedious and stressful day for the woman. Jasmine lead the horse under the tent one of the young boys to get the shoer. Taking her curry brush the woman began to groom said equine while humming. Jasmine moved over as the man removed the older shoes and checked the sensitivity of the horse. The drykas thanked the man for coming so quickly to check on the horse and let him know she would send for him when it was time for the horse to be reshoed.

Jasmine smiles and finished up cleaning the horse. She walked the horse back to the field as Kelna spoke prices with a few of the patrons. The woman heard Kelna shout for her to bring Hephiestian up to the tent. She walked over to the stallion with a smile and gently touched his side. The stallion snorted and raised his head to look at the girl his ear twitching back.

“Looks like only one ear is starting to loose its hearing,” Jasmine said and took Hephiestian back up to the tent, “you have a great evening Azmere.”

Jasmine waved as he and the stallion left. Turning Jasmine let out a sigh and looked at Kelna.

“Need anything else miss?” Jasmine asked with a smile before she headed out towards home.

“No, Jasmine. You did great today have a good evening,” Kelna said with a smile to the blond woman.

“Thank you and to you as well, Miss Kelna,” Jasmine smiled and walked out from under the tent heading towards home.

Jasmine stopped by the Garthos Supply on the way home. She looked around at the fruits before getting one pound of apples. She also got a dozen eggs and a gallon of milk before looking to the meats as she had not gotten a chance to go hunting lately and hone her skills. She bought a pound of fish before saying good bye and walking out.
