The Wind-Knotted Gates The Wind-Knotted Gates are the two carved wooden columns that are in the center of the city. The right column represents the male and the left; female. When a Drykas bonds with a strider and earns windmarks a ribbon is given in clan colors which is then tied upon the appropriate post. If a Drykas ever decided to leave the city for an extended period of time, the ribbon is removed but can be replaced upon return. It is considered an omen if two ribbons tie together in the wind. If a male and a female tie together then it is said that the two will marry in the coming season. If a male and a male tie together then it could show that they are going to be great friends or great rivals. These sacred poles are carried with the city; the first thing set up at each new location, the Gates are the last thing torn down. The image is one of the truly magnificent aspects of the Tent City. They stand just over ten feet tall and can be seen for quite some distance away from Endrykas however, to an untrained eye they might just look like odd trees. The array of colors represented by the seven clans whip and wave in the breath of Zulrav making these poles not only the center of the city’s wagon wheel but they’re also the center of all social activity as well. If it’s news, gossip or bargains that you’re looking for, the Wind-Knotted Gates are the place to start. Name: Yantra Ambersheaf, Yantra the Matchmaker* Clan: Topaz Age: 61 Skills: Negotiation - 71, Persuasion - 64, Politics - 48, Socialization - Max Description: The Grass claimed her husband some years ago. Then one by one the Grass claimed each of her four sons. The various families that were created from the joining of her sons have taken care of her. Yantra made those matches. She has brought many couples together in her long years with the Horse clans. Her ability to read the signs at the Gates are uncanny. Some claim she is crazy; that old age and tragedy have robbed her of sense. The doting kind she can be sweet but bothersome at times. She wishes for happiness and babies to all that come in contact with her. As one of the few elder members of society, Yantra's words can carry a good deal of weight given the right circumstance. Her matches are usually good and benefit not only the couple but the Drykas as a whole. She can be found at almost anytime near the Gates hounding the young people and predicting good mates. Credit for the location concept goes to Monsoon. Credit for Yantra goes to Amunet. |
