11 Spring, 516 AV Night;
Another night and again it would not be easy for him as he could not take it easy. No rest for the dead after all. It was still early in the night and he had a lot of work ahead of him as he wanted to work more on magic. It was funny he grew up around magic but never found the time to focus on this type of task since he always worked on bones for Malediction but now that he was out of the island he found he had to work on finer control of others to make sure he could protect himself out in the world.
His book was open on a blank page as he kept it on a side table. His quill dipping the tip into the ink bottle before pressing it softly on the paper. His hands moved as he kept his unblinking eyes on his work as he focused his mind on the task at hand.
Glyphing was different to each wizard at the end of the day. The basic reason for it was due to help magic but he heard some could control other people’s magic with a scroll or two. He was far from that he knew but he did make his own scrolls in the past. Granted it was just one and it was not in any shape to use in a safe manner but he knew the basic understanding of it due to hands-on work.
At first, he would make a square on the paper and outside the square, he would draw a circle. Simple shapes in the end but they were something he was very good at making. Glyphing could be anything in the end but they were all called the same. Be it sigils or runes but it meant the same thing at the end of the day as he made another square and circle right next to the first one.
Vick grew up in Sahova and one of the things you had to know to be called a Wizard was Glyphing was a needed skill. It could help your own magic and even make low magic objects such as holding a void portal or even a summon from another world. Once he could make them better he would look into selling magical scrolls for people. It could be a way to boost his income for a bit while he found a home in the city.
The runes were slowly going into a curve as he kept making the shapes, square first and circle over it as he let just the circles overlapping forming a chain of sorts between them. This scroll would hold a voiding portal in the end. Granted he would never trigger it and use it but it was still his goal so he could get more hands on with it.
The quill moved from the paper to the ink jar at times as he kept a fresh coat of ink on the paper. This took him a lot of time to form even the most basic scroll or use of Glyphing but he had all the time in the world right now. Yet what he was making right now would be the barrier of the scroll. It was why he was linking the symbols together and forming them in a large circle on the paper as he made another simple square with an overlapping circle along the design trying to be as careful as he could.
At last, the circle of runes were done as he made the last overlapping circle bind the ring together. The barrier was now done. He still had to work the inside to form the focus and make a trigger as well but one part was now done as he placed the quill in the jar as he let his drawing dry now.
Vick could do the same task over endlessly without getting tired. Be that writing nonstop or carving something out of bone. His body never was tired or sore as that was one of the perks of being a nuit. On top of the lifespan as he had lived for so many years yet would he change it if he could? No. In the end of the day he would rather be a nuit and work on his magical goals as he had so many of them.
What were his goals? To learn more about magic and to push the limits of Malediction. He wanted to work on the gods and push everything he knew about it but more he wanted to do other things in life. While he could not really gain the powers of a god or even a gnosis mark he could at least make items worth their attention.
Now was the focus. This is what would keep the magic stored until it was needed. Down the road, this is what would make the scroll useful. The focus would store the magic and the barrier would keep it in check. A trigger would break the barrier releasing the focus out so if he stored a void portal in the scroll it would unleash a void portal. Same if he put a fireball or even a summoned creature inside.
Vick was sure he could do better ways to make this but being self-taught had it’s pros and cons. Mainly cons when working with magical things but it made him understand a bit more each time he made things like this. If he made mistakes he would learn from them by trying again in different manners. All in the name of magical research at the end he would toss it up to.
The tip of the quill was placed in the middle as he slowly formed what looked like a triangle inside the barrier. Once the triangle was made he started to work out a web inside it linking the edges together and forming a semi-complex design that was in a circular pattern that looked like a spider web inside the triangle.
Two parts of the scroll were done and one more to go. Triggers were either very simple or complex but he could only really work on simple ones as he did not feel that good about making complex triggers. Yet, in the end, the trigger was meant to break and remove the barrier to release the magic.
The last one he made was a voice trigger but it was far from safe. He was even a bit shocked it managed as well as it did even if was a failure in his eyes. This trigger, however, would be simple but still be triggered by the voice.
A small box was formed in the top right corner of the page with a simple word in quotes that said “Release”. It was a simple trigger and once the word was said it would break the barrier that would keep the spell in check for good or bad.
It still would not be safe to use it in any combat situation or even by passing the time but it gave him more of an understanding of it. Now all that was needed was to put the spell on it as he knew the focus would suck any magic in and that would give power to the barrier to keep it in place.
Yet now he had to wait for the ink to dry again but it would give him time to tear the page carefully away from the book and set up the area to handle the spell he had in mind. It would push him further but he had to do this. Even this scroll would be the first of a few he would make before the sun would rise. He had to get faster at making them and just become better.
