Something with Bears

86 Spring, 516

Scorn had begun feeling anxious. Sleeping in trees and on cliffs had served Scourge and herself well enough so far, but something was telling Scorn that it was time to look for a more secure roost. She had been spending her spare time between hunting to scour the mountains for something suitable, and she thought she finally had something. There was a modest cave nestled next to a small creak, making it an attractive locale, but it was also secluded enough that interference from any Knights was unlikely. There was just one problem...

This valuable lair was already occupied.

Scorn could off course smell the occupants, but it had taken her several nights before she finally managed to stay up late enough in the morning to spy a bear shambling forth from the cave. It was a smallish-bear, though not small enough to be a cub though it might have been an adolescent, with a coat of dark brown fur that might almost have been black. As anxious as she was to secure the cave, she was still smart enough not to attack immediately on her own. Besides, even a small bear was more than Scorn could eat by herself.

She abandoned the bear for a few precious chimes as she went to find and wake Scourge. Neither of the Zith were terribly thrilled about being awake with the blazing day star blinding them from above, but this was important, and Scorn did her best to motivate Scourge with promises of a good meal, not to mention the fact that if they secured the cave, they would stop having to sleep in the sunlight.

By the time they made it back to where Scorn had left the bear, it had moved on, but following the scent trail wasn't too difficult, and they spotted the thing halfway up a tree. Scorn couldn't believe her luck. If they could just knock the bear down, it might be hurt enough from the fall to give them an advantage. Conveying her idea to Scourge, she dove toward the bear in the tree, raking it with her talons, aiming for the paws. The bear let out a mournful cry of distress, which only made Scorn's blood rush in excitement.

She circled low for another pass, when suddenly an abrupt impact knocked her out of the air and sent her sprawling into the creek. She was so stunned she almost didn't register the monstrous roar that followed, but then she heard Scourge's shrieks of fear and rage, and her attention was drawn to a rather larger bear, which was now coming at her, presumably preparing to finish her off.

Something with Bears

The Zith mentally cheered. Putting away the weapons and struggling out of his armour, Treachery was so glad training was over for the day. Grinning with his own plans for the rest o the day, he was quick to put everything away as it should be before heading to the dormitories to slip out of his boots and shirt. Peeling the clothing away as sweat caked his fur, the Zith took a moment to stretch and set his hair loose from where it had been tied up. It was getting warm again and dark furred Zith didn't last long in the hot weather. What he needed now was a good solid bell of flying, maybe even hunting some easy game along the way. Snatching up his kopis, belt and sheath as he set off of a way out of the castle, Treachery's plans all fell to pieces at the sound of a familiar voice.

“And where do you think you are going, furball?”

“Hunt. Training over. Yes?”

“Yes but I don't want you flying about too much. There has been an increase in rumoured Zith sightings out near the mountains and neither of us want the nightly patrol sticking an arrow in you by mistake. Make sure you get back Before dark, alright?”

“Yes, Sera.”

Relaxing when his patron went back to her own business, Treachery wasted no time in making it to the roof, the isur's words still circling around his head. Scorn and Scourge had been out near the mountains when he'd last meet them. They must have been on about them. Dang. Hopefully those two were okay. It had been nearly a full moon cycle since he'd seen them. Maybe he should swoop in and say hello. Why not? He would be out for a flight anyway so it hardly mattered where he flew. Taking a running leap from the roof, the Zith let his wings catch him with a flap and carry him up high to where the ocean winds gave him easy flying towards where he'd last seen Scorn.

A long-ish passage of time later and Treachery was near his destination. Circling over the field where they had met, the Zith frowned when his one night's mate wasn't to be found. About to head further towards the mountain, the cry of a bear made the Zith pause, hovering in the air. Silence reigned for a few ticks before a loud roar and Scourge’s frantic cries sent the Zith diving towards the source of the noise. Dropping out the trees just in time to see a large bear looming over Scorn, instinct over. Drawing his Kopis from it's sheath, Treachery flew at the bear, driving the weapon into it's back with both hands. The beast beneath him screamed shaking violently and attempting to swipe at him.

Being shaken back and forth as he held on tightly, the zith's estimate on how deep his weapon had gone into the bear's back was wrong. Feeling the weapon slip, Treachery had a tick to realise what was happening as he was thrown to the ground. Angry and wounded the bear advanced on the sprawled Zith, who was quick to attempt to get in the air. Not quick enough as a huge paw was able to pin down one of his flailing wings. Trapped and pinned, he tried to ignore the pain from where the bear was stepping on his wing and instead brought up his kopis, holding it back handed and pointing it at the bear. Baring his teeth and growling as the bear's mouth drew closed, Treachery spared a glance to see if Scorn was okay.

Something with Bears

Postby Scorn on May 22nd, 2016, 6:54 pm

Scorn could not see at first what had distracted the mother bear, but her heart leaped when she caught Treachery's scent. Luckily her fighting instincts were still strong enough to keep her getting distracted by the complicated tangle of emotions that threatened to overwhelm her at his unexpected return. She could deal with that later, when both their lives weren't in danger.

Scorn used the bear's distraction to return to the air and survey the situation, as Scourge naturally fell in beside her. The sight of the bear going after Treachery made her blood boil with a fury to match the mother bear's own. But mindlessly attacking the bear's flank would not do much good; as Treachery had unfortunately discovered, it's hide was protected by thick layers of muscle and fat. So Scorn sought out the weakest points of attack, narrowing in on the obvious targets of eyes and face.

With a quick instruction to Scourge to watch her back and keep an eye on the smaller bear, Scorn angled her flight toward the bear menacing Treachery. She landed on its back, digger her talons in for purchase. One of her feet found the wound from Treachery's long metal claw, and she shoved her talons deeper in, aggravating the wound. Simultaneously, she reached around the bears head and scratched blindly at its eyes and nose, mercilessly digging her claws into its face as deep as they would go.

The bears roar of pain and rage was truly impressive, and if Scorn had been any less bloodthirsty, it might have given her pause. But not only was she hungry and eager for this kill, but the bear was threatening her mate, and that filled her with a cold fire that went beyond anger.

The bear reared up on its hind legs, swiping at the air in an attempt to hit Scorn, but it couldn't reach back that far. Scorn was feeling optimistic until the bear leaned backwards, and she had a moment where time seemed too slow and yet she couldn't move fast enough. She tried to take off as the bear was going down, but there was no time, and anyway her talon was stuck in its flesh. She managed to maneuver enough so that she wasn't completely crushed by a mass of bear, but despite her efforts, her legs were pinned by a large, angry, blind bear. Scorn was beginning to feel nervous.

Something with Bears

It seemed Scorn was more that okay. Spotting her wings just before the huntress landed on the bear, Treachery could only wince slightly as the weight on his trapped wing increased. He growled as the bear thrashed to remove the female, digging it's claws into the membrane in it's panic. He had to get it off. Still griping his kopis, Treachery slashed at the leg that trapped him to not much avail. He nearly got bit a few times in the process before Scorn's wonderful claws found the bear's eyes and dug them selves in.

A wild smile spread over the Zith's face when the bear reared up. Dragging his wing quickly back to himself, Treachery felt his blood lust cloud his vision. The flailing wings on the bear's back vanished from his mind as red eyes focused in on the furry throat that had exposed itself. Diving forward with a flap to slam into the bear's chest, Treachery lift the kopis high above his head before bringing it down on the beast’s neck. It roared in pain as a rough cut was made into it's hide. Claws slashing at Treachery catching him across the back, before pinning him in place as the bear brought it's muzzle up to bite the Zith.

High on blood frenzy, he barely felt the pain of the injury as he brought the kopis down again, slicing open the creature's cheek causing the bear to cry out once more. The weapon came down a third time, diving straight down his prey’s mouth as sharp teeth bit into his hand trapping it. The Zith didn't stop. Using his free hand, he struck his claws across it's face, chest and neck. His strikes were clumsy and more emotion than thought but the blind bear couldn't do much to stop him. Somewhere a laugh bubbled up inside him as he hacked at the creature's face. In a last ditch attempt to get the crazed stabbing thing off of it the bear rolled over.

Realising what was happening only a little to late, Treachery could only scream as the bear moved it's considerable weight on top of him and unknown to the Zith off of Scorn's legs. Feeling his rib cage get crushed, Treachery panicked as the air was forced from his lungs. He couldn't breath. He couldn't move. And there was still an angry bear on top of him. The beast released his hand thankfully, letting it fall painfully to the ground as his weapon and a lot of blood fell from the bear's mouth. It was having trouble breathing from both the injury to it's throat and nose, and the fact that it's own weight was crashing it's lungs as well as the zith's. Feeling dizzy as blood began to pool around his head, the Zith struggled more as his limbs got weaker and weaker.

OOCHelp! D: Feel free to finish off the bear if you want.

Something with Bears

While she was pinned under the bear, Scorn was helpless to intervene as the scent of Treachery's blood filled the air. All she could do was scrabble ineffectually at the bear's thick flank. Finally though, the bear rolled over, dragging Scorn with it until her leg finally dislodged from its back. She flapped into the air to gain some breathing room, but Treachery's scream shattered any sense of safety the height gave her. With a cry of fear and rage, she dove again for the bear, angling herself to attempt to drag the bear off of her mate.

Fortunately, the bear was already unconscious and nearly dead from the wounds Treachery had inflicted on its head. When the heavy, dead weight of the bear refused to move under Scorn's shoving, she screamed at her sister for help. The smaller bear had run off, so Scourge flew to Scorn's side and together they heaved the bear over enough to free Treachery.

Scorn immediately flew to his side, sniffing him all over and gently licking his wounds. Little mewling noises of worry escaped her throat as she examined every inch of the large Zith, until she could convince herself that none of his wounds were fatal. The hand was a concern, but as long as Treachery stayed alive, it would heal. She hoped. What concerned her most were the deep bite marks, and she gave them extra attention, not wanting to leave them alone until the blood had stopped flowing.

Scourge, meanwhile, hardly believing her luck, started digging into the kill right away. She went straight for the liver, making it disappear in just a few bites while Scorn was distracted with her mate. There were some advantages to having a male around, if he could distract Scorn long enough to let Scourge get all of the good meat, she thought with a grin.
