Need Anything From the Market?

Morwen was thrilled to be among her people. The goddess loved to be out and about but more often than not she was busy running her city of ice and snow. Magificent as it was, Avanthal was not self-sustaining. It was in constant need of maintenance and attention not to mention the goddess had an entire season that sent her around the world, literally. So there were always plans involving her absence which demanded a great deal of time as well. That’s why Morwen loved to mingle in town. Her people, their love and loyalty were the sparks that filled her battery. She adored every citizen and that’s why she marked her people. It helped her to track them and understand them but nothing compared to good quality face to face time. Today, she was afforded just that.

Once she arrived, a cadre of people spotted her and instantly flocked to her side. Knowing full well that she could have anything she wanted, the goddess paraded about with the sole purpose of being with her subjects. She kissed the young and comforted the old while taking time to hear stories and concerns as well as praises. On occasion, Morwen would even blush. Contrary to what you might think, the touch of the goddess of winter was not cold. Like her smile, her hands were warm.

After the initial push, a young man worked his way up to the goddess and introduced himself. Morwen smiled. She knew of Epifanio and his playing but she had only heard him from a distance. She curtsied as he sat down to play and listened intently to his playing which was quite good, albeit simple. A woman who understands simple, Morwen applauded and gave the man a kiss on top of his head after his first song. “Magnificent, Epifanio! You are a real tribute to your house.” Her voice was light and wispy like a cold morning’s wind right after a heavy snow. After this, the man continued to play but Morwen had to spread her time around and moved on.

The next were two young women. One knelt down and was almost shaking. Morwen bent forward and lifted the girl by her shoulders and kissed her forehead. “I love to meet people, child. What is your name?” After receiving her answer, the goddess turned to the next young woman. She was petite with fin features and a strong spirit. “You don’t need to do anything for me, dear. Just be a good woman to the world around you. That’s all I ask of anyone.” Morwen reached out and put her palm against Infilia’s cheek while she gave her a meaningful stare for several ticks. As before, the queen moved on to more of her adoring public.

From nowhere, a woman in dark clothes with dark hair much like Morwen’s burst through the line. One of the kelvics behind the goddess moved forth but was halted by the queen’s soft hand. Morwen watched the eyes of the woman and took the honey from her with a smile. The goddess looked at the frozen jar and laughed a bit. “Well, my darling, it appears to be frozen.” There was a slight spark as djed left Morwen’s hand and filtered into the jar. She then opened it with easy and dipped her finger into the thick, gooey honey. She placed the dollop of golden sweetness into her mouth and closed her eyes as she savored he flavor along her tongue. For several ticks, the crowd had been reduced to whispers. The queen closed the jar and handed it back to Levali. With a huge smile, she took the young woman by the shoulders. “My, that was delicious!” Without warning, the goddess embraced the young Vantha in a hug that was both gentle and firm. While Morwen’s touch was a caress, her divine power peeked through during the connection for a brief moment where Levali would feel the air pushed from her lungs.

Morwen gave the woman a second kind look and then moved on. She greeted several others before a large hunter stood in her path. He bowed deeply and gave her a very respectful greeting and it’s something she played up in return. Morwen placed her hand daintily on her chst and batted her long eyelashes. “Oh, my good man, might I know you name?” She giggled a little bit and waited for his response before responding by repeating it and telling him that he has been well met.

As with all things, they end. Morwen had much to do today and moved to leave the market. She paused atop the entry and turned to see everyone still watching her. With a deep bow, she paid them all respect and then rose. “You are wonderful, citizens of Avanthal. You have my love and have made my day. I will see you all again soon but not soon enough.” She grasped the rail and leaned forward a bit. “Be good to one another. Our city may be ice but our hearts are a fiery hearth of love and respect.” She gave a wink and was escorted back out of sight.
