There wasn't much a hunter could do during the long dark. Travel outside the Ice Gates was dangerous as the snow was deep, the air was frigid and the light was none. Inside the city the Vantha fared a big better, but food was still something to worry about. As of now they were still living off the dried stores from earlier in the season. Fresh meat came from slaughter some of the elk and Wooly herds cared for by Junco's own Frostfawn Hold. But still, Junco felt he was needed, and disliked not being able to hunt freely and for the benefit of the city.

He came up with a solution. A solution that would solve, or help contribute the the solving of two problems within the city, food and pests. Avanthal was filled with animals, two of which were more common and annoying than the rest, Frost Hawks and Talderan Hares. Both animals were large and completely white but that was not the only similarities they shared. There were collectively hated by the Vantha population.

The hares were not just small rabbits bouncing around. They were almost dire in size and like normal rabbits, bred like them. They took up more space because of their size as well as caused more destruction. They animals loves to dig and so holes were common for their dens, children and adults alike had almost gotten used to falling in them. They liked to burrow underneath houses whose fire inside had warmed them. Sometimes they would find their way into arvintas and would be a pain to shoo out.

The hawks in some ways were worse. They had domain over the sky and were often overlooked until they swooped down and picked up the family dog or small cattle. The Summer is the coldest season of the year meaning the ice was thick which meant fish, the Frost Hawks most common diet, was unattainable. This led them to land and catches large enough to feed them, which usually meant the adored family pets. It was actually common practice in avanthal to kill the birds on sight. They were such a menace the Icewatch preferred the citizens to do so.

And so Junco decided to kill two birds with one stone. He set out early that morning equipped with his bow, arrows in quiver, waterskin... He was going to hunt some meat for his people, and take out some pests along the way.
