Aq Sulei U’sij

Appearance

ImageRace: Akalak
Gender: male
Age: 65
Birthday: 65, Fall, 451.
Birthplace: Riverfall

Appearance: They are about 7' tall and muscular. Dark hair is left to grow long and pulled back in a queu when at sea, but chopped off short again when they make it home to Riverfall. Dark gold eyes gaze out from beneath heavy brows, set off by dark red/vermillion skin with a very deep cast to it, making it appear almost black in low light.

Character Concept

As all members of their race, two personalities reside in the one shared body. They are Aq (pronounced something like 'ock' - like the beginning sound of Aqua), the dominant persona (the light brother) and Sulei, (pronounced Soo-lay) the 'dark' soul (because he is mostly not seen by others). U'sij is their family name, bestowed upon them when they successfully completed the Rite of Passage. It's an old name and one that was well known in days past in the Akalak city of Riverfall. But they may be the last to bear it, as they have no living male, Akalak relatives left. Even their father is gone, killed by the loathsome Zith during travel across the great sea of grass.

Aq is an adventurous spirit and took an interest in sailing. He was allowed to learn the skills of a sailor between his Rite of Trial and Rite of Passage, and after he was deemed a man, he took to the sea. He's been here and there, working as a hand on various trading vessels. Interactions with the seafaring people - the Svefra - allowed him to pick up a smattering of their unique language. Sadly, it was during one of these prolonged journeys to some far away port that his father died and Aq and Sulei will always regret not being able to say good-bye to their dear father. He had raised them pretty much alone, after their Kelvic mother died when they were only just readying for their Rite of Trial. Once their father was gone, Aq-Sulei had even less to tie them to the city of their birth.

But something does seem to always pull them back. During their sailing adventures, they have kept an eye open for any likely mate. They do feel a certain compulsion to at least try to help keep their race going, as well as their family line. But so far, no sons have come their way.

As for their personalities, Aq is very outgoing and gregarious, not quite the stoic, grave warrior that many of his kind are. He has something of a quick temper and can be quite rash sometimes. Otherwise, he is generally easy going and friendly, even flirtatious around the ladies. Onboard ship, he is a hard worker and reliable, but still something of a character, the type of fellow his shipmates find humorous and something of a ringleader. He has a big mouth, though and that has gotten him in trouble from time to time. He is of course a fierce fighter and one that the captain and crew are glad to have aboard in a time of danger.

Sulei is far more thoughtful and deliberate. He constantly tries to influence Aq to be patient and think things through, but he rarely prevails. Sulei can be sullen at times, when he feels especially ignored by his "twin." When Sulei is in control, he is far more taciturn, and less voluble around strangers. But this doesn’t mean he is unfriendly. He just isn’t as glib as his twin soul and doesn’t see the need to talk on and on. His sense of humor is far more dry, tending to the sarcastic, but he is every bit as hard working and reliable as Aq typically is. As a warrior, he is even fiercer than his brother because he doesn’t act without fully intending to finish that action completely and thoroughly. He is a bit merciless in this regard.
