Sweet words and sharp daggers (Job thread)

Postby Roselina on December 4th, 2016, 3:53 pm

3rd of Winter

Leaning against the wall, and glancing over the horde of people, who were going about their mundane days. Roselina counted the coins in her purse. It was, frankly not that much. She decided to work today. She wouldn't be able to even feed herself for much longer if she carried on like this.

There were many people in the crowd, different people, people who looked quirky and unwonted, people who looked impecunious and ragged. Then she spotted someone who would fit the bill.

He was very large, probably from over indulging in all of the posh food and fine wine that the wealthy could afford, and he was much older than Roselina. His hair was scruffy and grey, his outfit was one that you wouldn't see very often though, made with silk and topped with extravagant jewels. She glanced at the shining golden ring on his finger and smirked to herself, a plan formed quickly in her mind.

Roselina knew she was captivating. She had wavy brown hair, pale skin and vibrant green eyes which stood out like an emerald. At least this was her opinion, perhaps she was a narcissist.

It worked in her favour often, and good looks were a fortuitous thing to have in this job. She utilized them to deceive people, to trick them into trusting her, or to have them give her things. She thought about the fact that, no one suspects an innocent and alluring young girl. It amused her how naive people were sometimes.

She had no problem in using her looks to get what she wanted, it was fun, at times. The look on their faces when they discovered her true nature amused her, she often laughed at them, playing the part that they perceived her to be. Once, on of them called her a psychopath, she wondered if this was true. No.. She thought to herself, she was way to rational to be one.

The plan was simple, she would find someone who was married, someone who was wealthy and usually older. Roselina would then wonder over to them and ask them to go to a tavern with her, there they would chatter, and drink she would make sure that the person was drunk, unable to defend themselves or converse rationally.

She would flirt with them, convince them that she was better to date, than whoever they were currently with, and then she would lead her target into any empty place, where she would threaten to blackmail them and tell their lover.

If that didn't work, well, she would pull her beloved dagger out.

That always worked.

Her dagger was old, and worn, but she tried to keep it used when she could, so it could still do a lot of damage. It used to be her brothers dagger, Roselina smiled to herself, he would be glad that it was being put to good use.

She looked up from where she was watching her target and smiled, it was a while before sunset, the perfect time to go have a drink in her opinion. By the time she was ready to take his money, it would be getting dark, and no one would be around to witness It.

Job thread #1

Postby Roselina on December 4th, 2016, 8:48 pm

She strolled over to the man, tapping on his shoulder and grinning coquettishly, "Hi there! Want to come to a tavern with me? I was going to go alone, but you look like you would enjoy it too."
Roselina winked at him, gesturing to a nearby tavern.

He gave her an odd look as if he didn't believe her, but then agreed with a smile, "Of course, why wouldn't I go with someone so beautiful. " Sighing and thinking to herself, How idiotic...,They walked over to the tavern, slightly amused at how naive, and well idiotic the people in this place were to her.

She sat down and the man ordered a drink for both of them, Roselina pretended to sip on hers, knowing she wouldn't be able to finish the job if she actually drunk it.

She smiled absentmindedly at him, pretending to pay attention, but not really listening fully. I think he is talking about a party he attended? Roselina thought to herself, nodding at him and pretending to sip her drink again.

He droned on and on, so she looked around the tavern, it appeared that there were mostly regulars here tonight, none of them bothered her, some of them knew what she was doing. It was not like it bothered them though, as long as it wasn't affecting them.

He began to talk about the social circles he was in, it was tiresome to listen to really. Then he paused as if he had forgotten something, "Something wrong?" Roselina asked him with a curious smile.

He smiled back at her "Oh nothing, I just realised I don't know your name." She thought for a second, it might not be a great idea to tell him her real name, as he could tell the knights, or try to track her down himself, and she would prefer not to have an assassin or other criminal of some sort sent after her.

She almost let her smirk show when she answered him, " Does it matter, a name is just a name after all, doesn't it matter more what the person is truly like on the inside?"

The man looked slightly frustrated, which she expected, and he spoke again.

"Well, yes, but doesn't a girl like you have a pretty name to go with your looks? After all, you do look like a lot is in your name."

After hearing him try to charm her again, and give her a look like he had started to stop believing her lies. She, feeling slightly annoyed, made up a name "It is Emelia, it was my mothers name as well." . Well, at least that last part was true. The name felt foreign on her tongue, and after using it he gave her another look, her voice had sounded odd as she said it.

It was her mothers name, though she regretted using it now, as he would probably ask her about her mother, and she would have to make something else up. More work for her to do really.

He looked at her, and smiled upon hearing her name, by this point he wasn't sober anymore, but still, he would probably be able to tell someone after what had happened. She needed to get him to trust her a bit more anyway.

Job thread #1

Postby Roselina on December 10th, 2016, 1:51 pm

The man looked at her again "It was your mother's name?" , She had been expecting that question but still, she didn't really want to hear it, if she was honest.

She hadn't got a good relationship with her mother, but she wasn't going to tell the true story anyway, and instead, told a different one.

"Yes, she died when I was younger, as well as my father. It has been hard living without them, but I am doing better now." She smiled at him, and looked around her again, checking for anyone who knew what she was doing, and would stop her. Seeing no-one, she turned back to him.

He smiled sadly at her. "Well, I'm very sorry for your loss, Emelia." He looked down at his drink, taking another sip of it and then looked back up. "How did you manage on your own then? Didn't you have any siblings?"

She spoke almost straight away, she was used to this conversation and how to reply, as it had happened many times before. Roselina looked down, playing with her glass. "I was left to look after my brother, who was only young at the time, I had to beg people for food and coin. Most people were cruel and ignored me and my brother, wanting nothing to do with us." It wasn't that far from the truth to be honest, she had been the one who looked after her brother when they ran away. At least, she believed she had been the one caring for him, but it hadw often been the other way around.

The wealthy man sat in front of her looked enthralled by her story by now, really, it was the exact response Roselina had been looking for.

He looked at her rather sadly and spoke "Its astonishing that you managed that, I can not imagine how I'd cope, you must have had a terrible childhood. Didn't anyone take pity on you?"

Roselina thought to herself You wouldn't cope at all. , The amount of wealth this man possessed was easy to see. It was in the way he talked and how he dressed. It was obvious the amount of effort he had put into making everyone know how rich he was. It annoyed her, a lot. She would be glad when she didn't have to talk to him anymore. "Of course, after a while, a kind stranger took pity on us and took us in, they were very good to us and taught me everything I know. I'm very grateful to them. Besides, I really think we could have made it on our own, if I'm honest with you."

She winked at him, and twirled her hair around her finger looking at him, "Anyway, I really want to hear about you, you must have had a pretty interesting life, mines boring and normal. I bet yours is much more exciting."

Roselina grinned at the man, as he began to talk. She looked around, thinking about where she would be able to go to get his money from him. She supposed her apartment would do, its not like he would be able to remember her by tomorrow anyway.

He spoke, his speech was slurred and sluggish. She could barely understand a word he said, not that she wanted to anyway. Roselina nodded and smiled at him as he spoke.

Job thread #1

Postby Roselina on December 10th, 2016, 2:33 pm

He brought another drink from the barsmaid, who glanced at Roselina, shaking her head as she walked away. She still had her first drink there, which she hadn't took a sip of.

Looking outside, she noted how it was darker now, obviously later than usual. She needed to get inside before, and that meant she needed to get this job finished before dark.

The amount of people had gotten a lot smaller than what it was before, people had gone inside and finished there work, and the only people milling around were people making there way home and knights who were wondering the city.

She liked it here in Syrilas, it was quite easy to blend into the mass of people, and that was a great thing for her when she was working. You could even say her job required it.

Roselina glanced back at the man, who was still rambling away, his words becoming less and less understandable by the second. He was smiling one second, looking extremely sad the next, and bursting into laughter the next. She wasn't even sure that he was speaking words anymore, she wouldn't be able to understand, even if he was.

He kept falling slightly, and was slumped into his seat, he hadn't noticed that she wasn't listening anymore, and was still chattering about something, in incoherent speech.

He tried to stand, he declared, speaking slowly, but enthusiastically. " I'm going to get us another round of drinks!" He hiccupped, stumbling almost immediately, he stood back up, using the table to support him, and made his way to the front of the tavern, where the barsmaid was cleaning the bar.

Many of the tavern's customers were watching him now, as he lurched across the place, falling often. He was slouching, his hands reached for anything to support himself. Everyone could tell how inebriated he was.

Roselina sighed, and pretended to sip her drink again when the man glanced back at her, and began to make his way back with another drink. She supposed that she should get on with it now, or he might die from over-drinking before she could.

She was still, in contrast to her inebriated target, completely sober. She hadn't had a single sip of her drink since they got here, while he had had many more than would be a safe amount.

She pushed her hair behind her shoulder and then stood when the man returned, and she helped him up, smiling at him. "Lets go somewhere else, shall we?" She thought to herself while he walked with her, and nodded clumsily in reply to her question. He looks like he's completely unintelligent..., It made her want to laugh, but she didn't.

It took her a little while to get out of the tavern, seeing as the man beside her was acting almost like a child by now, and kept falling. She started to walk to her apartment, planning in her mind what to do next.

Job thread #1

Postby Roselina on December 11th, 2016, 12:19 pm

She wondered down the halls of Syliras, not many Knight's or squires were around, which was a good thing for Roselina.

She looked at the ones who were around, making sure people got inside before curfew. Roselina smiled at them, as if to apologise for the drunken man who was leaning against her and talking in garbled speech.

It wasn't an uncommon sight at nights, and they were used to seeing drunkards making there way home, sometimes alone and sometimes with others. So they didn't take any notice of the two who were walking.

The man stumbled again, and she faintly wondered whether it was more trouble than it was worth to do this job, she shook her head. No, it'll be worth it once I get the money from this man.

She smiled to herself as they walked, well she was walking, he was almost being carried by Roselina at this point, too far gone to support his self.

She reached her apartment, and unlocked it, looking outside of it for anyone who could witness what was about to happen. She directed the man inside, and closed the door behind her.

Her apartment was dim, and not very full, there was a minimum amount of furniture, and it wasn't very high quality, though she wished she had nicer things, as she had always had a taste for finery. That was likely why she did this job, it was one of the best someone with her skills could get.

The man sat down in a chair, and she stood next to him, a sly smile now covering her face, and a hand near her loved dagger, but out of view of the man.

She looked down on him, almost as if she was a better person than him and spoke with a slow and sardonic drawl. "Enjoying yourself?"

He nodded at her, probably realising his speech wasn't good right now, she noted he was beginning to get his common sense back, and carried on talking, her tone cynical and patronising.

"Does your wife know how much fun you are having?"

The wealthy mans face dropped, instantly going from happy to worried, and shocked. He began to speak, but Rosaline spoke almost immedietly, cutting his sentence short.

"Yes, I noticed the ring, it looked very expensive, you know, so do your clothes. All those drinks were too, weren't they?"

He looked up at her, aghast and stunned. He stuttered for a moment before looking up "You're blackmailing me, aren't you?"

He sounded astonished that someone would do something like that. She giggled, and the man looked at her as if she was insane. "All your money, and then get out. I'll find you if you tell the knights."

Then he did, and he left hurriedly, scared at the prospect of any harm coming to him. Roselina smiled and sat down to count the money.
