Haena's Plotnotes

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role playing forums. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

This forum is an OOC forum for PCS and Organizations to work out plans in hardcopy. Each PC or Organization gets a single thread where their players can help work out plans for their PC. Quests, mini-sagas, and Trips can all be organized here as well working out timelines and points of travel and things PCs need to do along the way. Each PC however gets only one Plotnote for their individual PC. Groups get one as well. There is no limit on individuals posting saga or trip plotnote threads. Please denote [PC Plotnotes] or [Group Plotnotes] or [Quest/Trip/Saga Plotnotes] when titling your threads.

At this level, a practitioner learns the basic mixing of substances. They gain a bit of knowledge about food preservation and liquid nutrition. Philterists receive a working knowledge of their tools, especially the glassware involved, that are required for adequately philter substances. They are able to turn living things like plants into tinctures, distillations, creams and salves. For example, they can take simple moss and mint - mix it with a bit of alcohol and beeswax to create a lovely lip balm that keeps the winter wind from chapping lips. They are able to produce one dose or vial of whatever they are philtering per session if the potion is combined with another skill (aka medicine). If they are doing a simple distillation or reduction, they are able to distill or reduce as much as they require so long as they are attentive to their philtering (as in keeping an eye on the stove or campfire to make sure the pot doesn't boil dry or the distillation doesn't become to hot and break flasks.

- Taken from the Philtering lorepage.

Haena is at novice level, and so has a simple grasp of philtering. What she lacks in competence she makes up for in enthusiasm. Yet she is still learning, and as such finds it difficult to do anything to a good standard above the simplest of mixtures. Currently, although she has a questing mind, she is most comfortable with making simple tinctures. Haena is particularly good at making cough syrup (due to starting lore). She is always striving to increase her knowledge, and will look for rare/unusual plants wherever she can, even if she never does a good job of it.

Current and Upcoming Projects

Currently, Haena is working on making a medicine for depression. However, as she is at novice level, she will not be able to successfully create one. This would not stop her, and she is determined to discover ingredients to cure 'sadness' or 'grief', looking for anecdotal evidence of such ingredients, or experimenting with plants to see what their effects are.

___

Eventually, Haena will be looking for a way to cure or heal infertility. Primarily a selfish being, Haena wants this cure for herself, but obviously wouldn't withhold it from others. It may be an impossible task, but she will damn well try.

Horses: Riding Proficiency, Commands, and the Strider

Riding Proficiency

Current Proficiency: Novice
Current XP: 10
Points Until Competent: 16

At last check.

At this level, a beginning rider needs to learn a few key points to interacting with horses. First and foremost, they need to learn how to safely place a halter on them, secure them, and then tack them up. Riders need to know the parts of tack, how to safely apply the tack to a horse, and how to safely mount.

Novice riders learn how to hold the reins, how to sit properly in the saddle, and how to ask a horse to move forward, backwards, and sideways. They learn the gaits of walk, trot, and are lightly introduced to canter. Riders also learn how to safely dismount and lead a horse. They also learn Emergency dismounts so they can safely get off a horse in a dangerous situation.

At this stage, a person also learns how to groom and care for a horse after the ride. This means cooling the animal off, providing food and water, and caring for the tack after it's been used. Only gentle, well-trained animals are suitable for riders at this stage.

--- Taken from the Riding lorepage.

Haena is not entirely comfortable on her horse. She manages to sit well enough, and can ride her horse with some degree of ease, when the going is good. However, she often has difficulty getting onto her horse, and struggles to maintain a canter for any length of time. At times, Haena feels uncomfortable and may feel like she's going to fall off unless she concentrates. Walking and trotting is usually the preferred way of getting around...

Commands

... She is still learning and figuring out the commands for her horse, and will teach Alta' new ones (such as for cantering and other, more advanced riding techniques) when she has reached a skill level that allows her to.

Worded Commands

  • "Hup hup!" - [Softly spoken, with an upwards inflection].
This command lets Alta' know Haena wishes to stop. This can also be reinforced with sitting lower on Alta's back and slightly leaning back.

  • "Et!" - [Bright, often with a smile or positive encouragement (such as a pat or a stroke)].
Et is used to set Alta' to graze. Using this command lets the horse know that they may be called for later, but can be free to roam by themselves.

  • "Alta'(re)! Here girl!" - [Loud, clear, sometimes with a clap].
This verbal command is used to call Alta' to Haena, if the horse is grazing or misbehaving somewhere!

Non-Verbal Commands

  • Leaning forwards - [Using lower body muscles and legs]
Go faster.

  • Leaning backwards - [Using lower body muscles and legs]
Go slower.
