38th Winter 516
Mid-afternoon
"Speech"
"Others"

It took a bit of getting used to, Haena thought, as she went about her daily routine in the embrace of her new..- well, not yet family. Her new companions. She still hadn't adjusted to the loss of Epaiza. No, she wasn't dead, and the woman knew she could visit at any time. But still, having lived with her for so long, it was strange to not hear her cheery voice in the morning, or indeed spend time with her during the once-cold Winter nights. Not that the Winter of 516 was cold. Haena looked around as she came back to the present, and gently nudged Alta' back into a gentle trot. The general hubbub of sound washed over her, all of Endrykas spread around the shores of the lake. The obvious sounds of livestock were missing, but she'd started to phase out that oddity over the past couple of days.

Now, she had heard of the canoes, and wanted to try one out. As it was easiest, she had taken Alta' and a yvas bag carrying fishing tackle and a fishing rod, as well as a few supplies such as flint and tinder, fuel for a fire (should she need it) and her eating knife. If she was honest with herself, she would probably look at what she had brought and think she had over-packed, but it was better to be prepared than to fall short at the first hurdle.

So she walked Alta' forwards, through the 'streets' of Endrykas, until she came to the soft, wilderness-strewn shores of the lake. "Hup hup!" She spoke softly, her command to Alta' to let her know to stop. A few more steps forward, and then the horse understood. Haena slid gracelessly off her mare's back, and set her to graze with the command, "Et." Alta' neighed softly and Haena stopped for a moment to gently stroke her muzzle, gazing into the soft, dark eyes of her dearest companion. "Good girl. Et!" Then Haena stepped back, made sure she wasn't too confused, and turned around, leaving Alta' to graze on the coarse plants that grew on the banks of Lari Lake.

A few chimes later, and Haena was walking along the edge of the gravelly lakeside, feet crunching loudly as strange birds with spoonlike beaks twittered in the shallows. There were a few Drykas, one Opal clan and the other three Diamond, dragging one of the canoes back to the shore. It lay besides another canoe. They had started walking off as Haena approached, and she stared at the old, water-stained canoe for a brief tick as she tried to figure out where the paddle was.

She searched around for a bit, but it was soon found, tucked inside the canoe underneath the seat. She extracted it, and dumped the yvas bag on the inside of the boat. Then she began pushing it, with some difficulty, back down to the water's edge. Thankfully, the Drykas before had spotted her arrival, and had thoughtfully left the canoe half in the lake already.

When it was floating, she waded into the shallows after it and considered how to actually get in the boat. Tentatively, she lifted her foot up and placed it in the boat. Instantly, it tilted alarmingly and she was forced to hold it steady with her hand. Next, she tried to grab the sides of the canoe, but again it was too unstable. Finally, after much awkward floundering in the water, Haena managed to drag herself over the edge without capsizing the vessel. She blushed furiously, hoping the strangers on the shore a few feet away wasn't paying attention to her idiocy. Then she grabbed the paddle, and dipped it into the lake. Time to practice this.
