Visalis Azalea

Appearance

Race: Symenestra
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Birthday: 46, Winter, 497AV.
Birthplace: Kalinor

Appearance: Visalis is the very image of what one would come to expect when they thought of a Symenestra. His skin far too pale for anyone to suspect him to be human, and combined with his scarlet eyes, slender build and abnormally long arms it was quite easy for even the most ignorant to identify his race with but a glance. When he moves it is done with a fluidity and grace rarely seen by anyone outside of Kalinor, so much so that many could consider it to be rather eerie.

Neither his height nor his build is anything for Visalis to boast about, standing at little more than 5'10 and weighing just over 150lbs he is definitely not what one would consider an imposing figure. Like most Symenestra Visalis has allowed his nails to grow to the point that they could be considered nothing short of claws, the colour of said claws being black as pitch and a clear contrast to his alabaster skin.

Visalis does not style his hair in any particular fashion, simply allowing the shoulder length silver locks to hang freely. That isn't to say that he does not care for it though, as he takes great care in ensuring that his hair remains both clean and soft. He can usually be seen wearing clothes of darker, more subdued colours, and more often than not bearing no markings or insignia's.

Character Concept

From a young age Visalis was a shy and quiet child, never the most outgoing even amongst the members of his web and certainly not the most confident, although that wasn’t to say that the boy lacked in either social skills or friends. He was the type that preferred to spend the day reading rather than socialising with others or playing with other children, and above all else he loved learning. For this reason he was always seen as rather strange by the other children, but while some did indeed bully him for this they were a minority and he was never lacking in support from his web. It is for this reason that he finds it hard to truly warm up to those not of his web, although he never allows this innate distrust for strangers to show outwardly.

The young Symenestra has never held qualms when it comes to killing, especially when it comes to those that are a threat to him or those that stand in the way of his plans, but he prefers to avoid bloodshed whenever possible. Visalis has never been the most ardent follower of Viratas, something that his younger brother regularly chastises him for, but he did at least follow the belief that blood should not be spilled needlessly. Even after a year within the lawless city of Sunberth Visalis holds true to this belief, although his definition of what was ‘needless’ had changed quite a bit.

Visalis a firm and vocal supporter of The Harvest, a belief that is in direct opposition to the beliefs of some of the older members of his web, but said older members knew better than to attempt to sway the beliefs of the younger Symenestra in this particular matter.

Character History

Visalis was the second child and firstborn son of Videlus and Nassana Azalea, his elder sister Elassa having been born ten years prior to him. Due to pressure from their web his mother had been the one to bear both he and his sister, and while she had been fortunate enough to survive the removal of his sister… her luck had not held out a second time. He never lacked in maternal love during his childhood, thanks in large part to his elder sister and his maternal aunt Senora, but he always felt that a key part of his web was missing. Of course he was far too young to truly understand the implication of these beliefs at the time, he was simply a child that didn’t understand the cruelty of the world and wished that he had a chance to meet the mother that both his father and sister spoke so highly of.

When he reached his teenage years he was sent out with his eldest cousin Duvalin, the son of his aunt Senora, to observe his first Harvest. Their first destination was the Isur Kingdom of Sutros, although the two had been forced to make a rather hasty exit after Duvalin managed to anger some members of the Pitrius Clan. Their next destination was the city of Alvadas, and as it turned out human females were much more susceptible to the wiles of his elder cousin. In only a weeks time the two young Symenestra were returning to Kalinor with four rather attractive human females in tow, and it was only during their return that Visalis noticed how strange his cousin was acting around the women. He continued to repeat the lines over and over again throughout their journey, and the more that he repeated said lines the more… empty the women seemed to become, almost seeming to repeat the same thing under their breath for hours at a time. He knew that something was wrong when Duvalin began to bleed from the eyes when they were approaching Kalinor, but it was only when one of the women started to scream that he was controlling them that he began to understand.

However, rather than feeling disgust at his cousin for using magic to influence the humans, Visalis felt awed by the cunning and ingenuity of his cousin… although he did feel that the man had severely overestimated his abilities if his loss of control was anything to go by. In the end the woman that had broken free of his cousins control tried to flee, but Duvalin had not hesitated to kill her before she got far. In the end the two Symenestra had taken her valuables and left her corpse in a ditch on the side of the road, making it look like a robbery gone wrong as his cousin had put it. The remaining women hadn’t managed to bat an eye at the act, their minds having been shattered over the past week of travel by the bombardment of suggestions from his cousin. It was cruel beyond belief, but so was the act of creating a surrogate in the first place… and in the end, it was a necessary evil to ensure the survival of their species… or at least that is what Visalis had to tell himself to justify the actions of Duvalin.

He had managed to weasel a few lessons in Hypnotism from his cousin after they had returned to Kalinor with his cousins Harvest in tow… but he never picked up on the art quite as easily as Duvalin had. He never truly stopped trying to better himself in the art, but it became quite hard for him to learn the art on his own once Duvalin’s son was born, doubly so considering he needed to practice the art in secret. It was only shortly after that his father had taken his own surrogate, and over the course of her pregnancy Visalis actually found himself liking the woman. She was an Isur, and she was one of the kindest women that he had ever met, so much so that he actually found himself regretting the inevitability of her death… and she had died in unbridled agony giving birth to his younger brother. Visalis had seen it all, and for the first time in his life he began to question the ethicality of The Harvest… but in the end he knew that regardless of how ethical the practice itself was it was necessary for the survival of his race.

It was this event that led Visalis to developing an obsession with learning about the venom of the Symenestra, which in turn led him down the part of Poisoncrafting… and it was there that Visalis truly began to shine. He took to the art like a Svefra took to the seas, and as his knowledge in the art grew so did his desire to learn. Thankfully he was at the age where he could leave Kalinor to conduct gleanings, and much like his cousin before him he chose to start within the Isur kingdom of Sultros, but unlike his cousin who was foolish enough to attempt hypnotism, Visalis simply made his intentions known. He was directed to the Pitrius clan, the very same clan that his cousin had angered years prior, as they were considered by the Isur to be the most well versed in the arts of Philtering and Poisoncrafting. The few Pitrius he met with with were cold at the best of times, often dismissive of him due to his status as an outsider… but there was one saving grace. He found that the Pitrius were quite self-obsessed, and eventually he managed to find one older male that was willing to return to Kalinor and record what he knew… for the right price of course.

The mans name was Valdus, and while he was no master he possessed a wealth of knowledge about Ooze based poisons, and though he was cold and dismissive of Visalis himself he was quite impressed by how far the Symenestra had come in the art of Poisoncrafting at such a young age. Of course the Isurian bragged that he had been infinitely more skilled at an even younger age, and while not impossible by any stretch Visalis doubted the validity of the man's claims… after-al, if that was true he would likely be a master of the art by this point. Still, he had managed to learn a fair bit about Ooze from the man amidst his endless boasts, and he doubted that the man even realised that he was doing it. Later, after the man had recorded his knowledge and received his payment, Visalis had taken to reading the book that had been created, and he found himself learning even more about Ooze based poisons.

That was not the only gleaning that he had undertaken but it was by far the most memorable, and the one that had helped further his own knowledge the most. His latest gleaning had taken him to the lawless city of Sunberth, as he was sure that such a cutthroat place would possess quite a few people that were skilled in the arts of Poisoncrafting… but such people were proving to be quite difficult for him to actually find. The locals were anything but helpful to him, often spitting in his general direction or on him directly due to his species alone, but he cared not for their disdain. He highly doubted that he would find anyone within this pit that was willing to return to Kalinor with him to record their knowledge… but he knew that he would be able to learn from the people here, and once he felt he had learned enough he could leave and record the knowledge himself. It has been just over 2 seasons since he arrived in the city, and while it was indeed slow going he knew that he was making some headway in his goal.

Let me lend you a guiding hand

Welcome to Miz, Visalis! Your CS looks good, but there are a few things you need to fix before you continue.

*Your skills: Please list your skills in alphabetical order; you can further organize them by competency if you wish.

When you take the Poison skill, you must specify which families of poison you are familiar with. Going by your history ooze is obviously one of them, but at the competent level, you are familiar with 5 different families of poison. Please include these families somewhere near or on your skills list.

*Your lores: Your lore of 'Poison: The complete guide to ooze' is much too broad. Lores need to be specific bits of knowledge; if you want a lore related to poison, I would suggest something like 'Poison: How to harvest material from an ooze'.

*Your housing: Please specify where in Sunberth you're living; judging by the fact that you took the tent package, I assume that's within Tent City. I would also recommend listing all of the equipment that the tent package comes with in your possessions list, not with your housing, just for easier organization; but that's up to you. Regardless, since you cashed in your horse and tack, please remove those items from the list.

Once you've made the above corrections, please let me know so that I can remove this intervention. Otherwise, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me or find me in chat!
