The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

★ ★ ★Note: This location appeared early winter 519 AV, and as such cannot be used in flashbacks prior to this date.

The Dove's Tower is a dovecote perched on the Tenten Peak, towards the northern edge of the peak. It stands as a lone tower, away from any other buildings in the area, surrounded by a park-like patch of land with grass and flowers and dotted with fadeong trees around the perimeter and the building.

The dovecote is a relatively tall two-story tower with a round roof. There is a single wooden door that leads in and out of the tower; the exterior is made of a simple white stone that looks slightly weathered, with a decorative balcony higher up for the birds to perch on. Flocks of birds can be found in, on, and around the tower at all times of day; they are all compromised of either pigeons or doves, and while a variety of colours can be found, the vast majority of them are white in colour. Sometimes, one can even spot a particular, rather exotic green and purple fruit dove.

ImageInside, the Dove's Tower seems to be an entirely different building. The floors are made of white marble, cleaned frequently to keep them free from bird droppings; the walls are made of white and cream-coloured stone, carved with elaborate and intricate patterns all the way up to the ceiling. There are small niches and windows carved into the walls as well as ledges to provide nesting and roosting places for the myriad of birds that occupy the tower.

The Dove's Tower appeared quite suddenly one day in the early season of winter 519 AV; nobody could give an exact date, but one day the spot where the dovecote is was empty, and the next it was not. Over the course of the season, the empty dovecote filled up with its host of birds, and its strange keeper appeared just as suddenly one day as the building had.

The interior also features a few small furnishings such as a cot and chest, implying that the woman who cares for the birds and tower also lives there. Nobody recalls having ever seen her within the city before, and she seems more than comfortable to live in the tall but not overly spacious dovecote with the flock of various birds.

While both tower and keeper are mysterious, the Shinya and Constellations have deemed the mysterious structure safe, and Zintila herself has encouraged people to go take a look at the dovecote if they are curious about it; it may just hold an interesting secret to discover for those who enter.

Altaira

Race: Inarta
Birthdate: 493 AV
Birthplace: Wind Reach
Occupation: Caretaker at the Dove's Tower
Gnosis: 2 marks of Xyna (Minting level 2)

Languages: Common (Fluent), ********************ll***ll***Nari (Fluent)

Altaira is a relatively young Inarta woman; she is short and slight, as per most of her race, with pale and freckled skin and vivid, bright blue eyes. Her ginger hair is always pulled back into a low, braided bun to keep it out of the way, with a few loose strands hanging to frame her face. The most notable feature about Altaira are the many small white wings that sprout from her head, including from where her ears should be.

One day some time after the dovecote appeared, after all of the birds moved in, Altaira seemingly just appeared to tend to the tower. She cares for both the tower and the birds within it, and while she is a very introverted sort that prefers her personal space, she is always warm and welcoming to visitors.

Due to the wings that extend from her head where her ears should be, Altaira is deaf. She has learned to adjust to this, though she greatly misses being able to sing and play her instruments the same way that she used to, and she largely uses a notepad to communicate with any visitors she ever has; she is also quite proficient at reading lips.

Altaira herself does not quite know or remember how she ended up in Lhavit; all she knows is she felt called to tend to the Dove's Tower. She does remember her past; growing up, she lived in Wind Reach, where she much preferred the smaller birds to the birds of prey her kind tend to prefer. She grew up keeping and tending to pigeons, and spent most of her free time learning to play her instruments, as she dreamed of making a living as a musician.

Magic also fascinated Altaira, and she eventually found a way to learn morphing, which fascinated her most; with effort and time, she could learn to alter her form to match that of the pigeons she loved so dearly, and spend her days flying with them. Altaira threw all of her spare time and effort into mastering morphing, but her obsession grew dangerous, and she ignored her limits, beginning to experiment with forms as well.

Over time, she found herself having difficulty changing back into her usual form, and found features from the dove form she favoured lingering. Eventually, she succumbed to overgiving to the point of having trouble remembering her real identity and being unable to control her morphing. As a result, she now sports the several dove wings from her head; despite her best efforts, she has not been able to get rid of them, and so she has resigned herself to her new life as an outcast and without her hearing, and has sworn off morphing.

Terrified of being assigned to Dek status due to her strange appearance and new disability, Altaira fled Wind Reach; that is where her memory blanks, and all she remembers next is arriving at the Dove's Tower in Lhavit. Chosen by Xyna and feeling her calling for the dovecote, Altaira settled in easily, and enjoys her work as the Dove's Tower keeper.

While a friendly if private sort, Altaira does not take kindly to those who treat either the tower or its birds with any level of disrespect, and will not hesitate to make her displeasure known and bar such individuals from the tower. Otherwise, she is more than welcoming to those who drop by, and will gladly share the secrets of the dovecote.

Eliza
ImageName: Eliza
Race: Kelvic (Fruit dove)
Birthdate: 519 AV
Birthplace: Lhavit
Occupation: Co-caretaker at the Dove's Tower
Gnosis: 1 mark of Rhaus (Audius level 1)
Skills: Birdkeeping - 28, Composition - 62, Foraging - 30, Impersonation - 50, Musical Instrument (Lyre) - 60, Singing - 82, Songcraft - 35, Wilderness Survival (Mountain, forest) - 48
Languages: Common (Fluent)

Eliza is a Kelvic fruit dove, and Altaira's bondmate. She is tall, slim, and pale, with distinctive grey, green, and purple hair that matches her plumage in dove form, and dark red eyes. She was born in Lhavit to an absent father and a mother that didn't want a child, let alone a Kelvic, and spent most of her short childhood alone.

When the new dovecote appeared, Eliza was one of the first doves to arrive to check it out, and she found Altaira there. She hung around, coming and going for a few days as a dove, and very quickly fell in love with Altaira. Quiet, thoughtful, and full of music just like herself; Eliza didn't care about her deformities from morphing, or her disability.

Eliza quickly moved into the tower to stay with Altaira, the pair bonding not long after, and they are perfectly content to live together in the dovecote, sharing their music with only each other and being peacefully alone aside from the occasional visitor that passes through.

Eliza, like Altaira, tends to be a bit quiet and withdrawn, and is rather shy. She has always been gifted in music and has a deep love for it, which is what brought her and Altaira so close together. She also has a strange knack for imitating sounds and voices, to an uncanny degree. She is rather self-conscious of this ability as she knows some people find it unsettling.
