The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Lhavit prides itself on being a city that is clean, safe, and whose people are overall well-taken care of; however, that does not mean it is perfect. Poverty, disease, and crime exist within the city, just like any other, as do orphans. In order to keep unwanted, abandoned, lost, parentless, and run-away children off the streets, safe, and out of trouble, the Lost Stars Orphanage was established many, many decades ago.

The Orphanage was started by a Constellations member, who passed on the duty of caring for it and the children to his daughter, and the duty has been passed on through generations ever since as a point of pride. The designated next-in-line do not always choose to become a Constellations member, however the Lhavitian government continues to help finance the Orphanage regardless.

The Orphanage itself is located on the Shinyama Peak, not far from the Shinyama Pavilion, and sits on a small hill; most of the land is open space, full of gardens and play areas for the children. The building itself is large and colourful, made up of white stone and prismatic skyglass.

ImageThe interior is equally as colourful, if slightly run-down due to age, meant to bring some joy into the lives of the children who reside there. Children from the ages of newborn to eighteen years can stay at the Orphanage, and it is not uncommon for those who reach eighteen and who aren't adopted to stick around and help out while they find their footing in the world. The Orphanage usually houses a few dozen children at a time, of varying ages, races, and temperaments.

The vetting process for adoption is taken very seriously; prospective adoptive parents are interviewed by Aimon extensively, and expected to show their living accommodations to prove that they can adequately provide for the child or children they wish to adopt. After that, they are permitted to meet the child; children over the age of ten also have the right to refuse adoption if they so choose. All adoption fees go towards keeping the Orphanage running and the children cared for.

Aimon Vezda

Aimon is the current head of the Lost Stars Orphanage; the oldest of five children, he took over the Orphanage from his mother when she got too old to run it anymore. His own daughter died in childbirth, leaving him to raise his granddaughter, who he hopes will take over the Orphanage next.

Born and raised in Lhavit, the Orphanage was as much a home to Aimon as it was to the children who had to be there. From a young age he was helping his mother out and playing with the other children, and then helping to raise his younger siblings as they were born.

He has always enjoyed caring for others, especially children, and stepping into the role of being head of the Orphanage came naturally to him. He is kind, patient, and compassionate, but also stern when needed, and doesn't take any nonsense from the children.

Deandra Vezda
ImageName: Deandra Vezda
Race: Human
Birthdate: 500 AV
Birthplace: Lhavit
Occupation: Helper at the Lost Stars Orphanage
Skills: Brawling - 30, Caretaking - 55, Dance - 68, Escape Artist - 40, Interrogation - 72, , Musical Instrument (Fiddle) - 60, Stealth - 48, Storytelling - 65, Teaching - 35, Unarmed Combat - 80
Languages: Common (Fluent), Shiber (Basic)

Deandra never knew her parents; her mother died in childbirth, and her father simple up and vanished before she was even born. Growing up among other orphans, she never felt out of place for lacking parents, and her grandfather raised her as if she was his own.

From a young age, she's been helping out at the Orphanage, and while she's not sure that's what she wants to do with her life, she knows that her grandfather is getting older and that she will likely have to step up and take responsibility soon enough.

Deandra is much more stand-offish and aloof than her grandfather is; she can be somewhat harsh when she feels it is called for, however she is wonderful with the children and can somewhat enable the mischief makers, as she was one herself when she was younger. She takes on the role of an older sister, and enjoys teaching the children about her own passions and interests, which include self-defense and playing the fiddle, among other things.

Not very social, Deandra tends to be more aggressive and suspicious of potential adoptive parents, wanting nothing but the best for the children. However, once you get to know her, she is deeply loyal and has a hidden warmth to her, with a dry sense of humour. She is the one who usually greets visitors, despite her unfriendliness with strangers.

Bonnie

Birthplace: Lhavit
Occupation: Housekeeper at the Lost Stars Orphanage
Skills: Caretaking - 30, Cleaning - 85, Cooking - 80, Gardening - 40, Medicine - 25, Observation - 65, Organization - 62, Sewing - 76, Singing - 15
Languages: Common (Fluent)

Bonnie was previously raised in the Orphanage, and decided to stick around to work as the housekeeper after she got older, knowing no other life. She sees Aimon as a father figure, and has a sisterly relationship with Deandra, unperturbed by the other woman's often prickly exterior.

Quiet, shy, and timid, Bonnie prefers to stay in the background doing her job. She feels awkward dealing with the children hands-on, though she never shoos them away if they want to spend time with her, and she has bandaged more than one scraped knee.

Bonnie does the vast majority of the cooking and cleaning, as well as repairing clothing and tending to the gardens on occasion. She is known to sing to herself as she works when she thinks nobody is around, though she will deny it if confronted about it. She can often be found in a hectic state of disarray from all the running around and cleaning she does.
