Making Money Through Music (Open!)

Postby Klane on March 6th, 2010, 2:28 pm

TImestamp: 1st Day of Spring, 510 AV, Just after the 12th Bell
Audience: Open to all
Purpose: Making money and acquaintances
Where: Northwest Square

Klane had slept in the first day of the new year, finally waking up to the 10th bell. The kelvic stood up and rubbed his eyes. He was in a music-making mood today, and that's just what he'd do. He gathered his meager supply of belongings and wrapped them in his bedroll. Then he headed towards the Northwest Square. The rough, dirty man tuned his mandolin while walking and continued to do so after he arrived at the square. Once satisfied with the instrument's tone, Klane set down the bedroll, providing a place to sit, and produced a rusted jar that had been crudely labeled with the hardly legible word "Tips".

The song Klane began with was simple, more of a warm-up for him than a real tune. It was short and rather repetitive. After about a minute the tune ended, and whether or not if anyone tipped him on the boring performance, he started right into another song. This one was more interesting. Its lyrics catchy, the song invited others to sing along. It wasn't a total success though, for Klane made his usual beginner mistakes on even the most simple of chords. It would go like this for around an hour, playing song after song, maybe starting light conversation with the audience in between each tune. He might come back later in the day, but with a limited repertoire of songs, Klane did want to risk boring listeners by repeating songs.

A worn and battered young man made his way out into the street. The hair was a mess, black tendrils floating about, causing the man to take pause and pull a lazy hand through the offending strands. The small frame was wirey, with a hint of muscle giving definition to the visible parts of the black tunic. The attire spoke of a warrior, with a leather cuirass, and a matching set of leather greaves adorning the upper legs. The only other notable feature was an ancient two-handed sword resting in a scabbard running across the figures back. The eyes where half-shut, and obviously adjusting to the outdoor light.

Leaning to let another customer out and onto the street, Weyliss looked back at the store. A devilish grin formed, and the man made his way further down the street. Lots of people, with more then a few trying to peddle their wares. Music could be head, but Weyliss couldn't find the source. He'd been to the Northwestern Square before, but it always fascinated him with the sheer variety of people. The main source of the crowd was a food stand that had been hastily erected along the left corner. Making his way through the people, the young warrior found himself eyeing a particularly tasty batch of apples.

The owner of the stand was trying to deal with several customers. Just barely managing to get the man's attention, he flashed an apple at his attention, and slid some coins across the wooden stand.

The apple tasted sweet, and the young man found himself savoring each bite. Then, he stopped. That song... Whoever had been playing the music had switched tunes, from a rather catchy beat (something that had slowly been finding a niche in the back of Weyliss' head) to a more harmonious tune. Weyliss enjoyed music, and with nothing better to do, made his way over to the small crowd surrounding the musician. He looked pretty ragged, but his tip jar spoke volumes, numerous people had put something in after he had played a rather popular bar song. During the current tune's final notes, Weyliss leaned forward and let a GM slip from his fingers into the jar. Staying, he listened to the music and let memory overtake him.

When Weyliss arrived, Klane was intently focused on the music. He was not master musician by a long shot and was still required to concentrate extremely hard to avoid as many mistakes as possible. Klane played music, he couldn't feel it. Anyway, when Weyliss arrived Klane gave him a subconscious nod of his head. The quirk, which he gained from performing on the streets, forced him to acknowledge every newcomer. When the song was over he paused for a minute to thank the people that put money into his tip-can. Then, the kelvic began into a new song, similar to the last one in it's qualities. He didn't like to spend time socializing, in fact he hated talking to strangers, avoiding the practice as much as he could. The only time he'd do it was to seem friendly when he playing his mandolin. And even then Klane preferred to be playing music. It took his mind off of the crowd of onlookers.

A little noteI feel like you kinda godmodded a little. There was no fruit stand, let alone a large crowd surrounding one. And you even played the NPC... I'd rather you didn't make up things or control others without a mods permission.

Hmm. I thought 'Sqaure' and envisioned a busy sort of public place. I can change it if you like.

As the music continued to play, the small warrior moved a bit off from the crowd. It wasn't that he didn't like the crowd, it was what said crowd attracted. He'd rather not be a victim to a pickpocket.

As he observed the other man playing, he tried to remember another song, something from his youth...

...she was beautiful, her white dress seemed to flow with each step she took. One foot would move forward, and another would come up arched behind it. With each spin her hair flew about wildly. Her cheeks where red with laughter, and as she danced, he could tell she was having the time of her life.

Yet, despite her beauty there was a song playing. The frame to her picture, adding to her glowing visage. It was an old song, speaking of gods, and a mortal's beauty who couldn't be touched. The notes where quite simple, but the chorus was where it soared, as all of the previous chords would be mixed, and then one by one pulled out during the follow up...

Shaking his head, Weyliss could swear he recognized some of those simple notes.

Sasin wandered through the crowd, bored out of his mind. It was spring now, but the weather still seemed as cold as ever. But still he wandered, seeking a purpose in this sea of boredom. That Charoda was following him again. She had started out as a nusiance, but Sasin had soon warmed up to her. Still, her stalking was....interesting.

His thoughts were invaded by a catchy tune. "Nice" He hissed to himself. He walked over to the busker. He was playing on a mandolin. Still... Something about this seemed very....familiar. It wasn't everything, just the busker and his song. It bothered sasin that he couldn't quite place what was so familiar. What was it? Man? Or Song?

Secret :
This is assuming Aksia is following me. In the event that he changes his mind, I'll change this post.

Aksia was again stalking Sasin, as she walked through the tight crowd wondering who or what could be making such aesthetic tunes. She edged closer and saw an exquisite man playing a strange instrument, it looked like a guitar but didn't seem to make the same sounds as it. She edged closer for a better look, forgetting to follow Sasin. She was entranced by the music.

Klane looked up at the end of the song. As usual he acknowledged the newcomers, but this time something made him stop in mid-gaze. One of the listeners in particular was strangely familiar... And then he recognized him! It's that snake-man again... I can just smell it, the Kelvic could hardly hold back a growl, knowing very well that this man didn't like his kind. He couldn't look different at all, and even then he just had to hope that Sasin wasn't planning some kind of mass-murder. The man probably wouldn't do such a thing, but Klane had only met him once, and that encounter was far from friendly.

Trying to maintain a casual attitude, Klane racked his brain for another song. It's weird how much harder it is to think when your nervous, the man acknowledged loosely. At last, just as Klane's neck was beginning to sweat, he thought of another song. Coincidentally, it was the only tune he played the night of the Mid-Winter Festival, only a short while after they had scared the snake-man off. It was a song he had learned from his first time playing in Syliras. A man named Kadurro had joined him in playing that day, and the man's tune was one he'd always remember. It was extremely simple, but even through the simplicity, it seemed to hold the man's entire purpose.

As he played his mind was set on two things. The snake-man, or Dhani as he recalled they were officially known as, and the song. Letting his mind wander from the song not only forced more mistakes then usual, but it also made him look suspicious. Gods... Please don't let me die...

Sasin sighed as the charoda appeared. Forgetting the busker temporarily, he shook his head. Playfully smacking the Charoda's shoulder, he hissed "What, have you finally given up on stalking me?" He laughed softly. Turning his attention back to the busker, Sasin frowned as the music changed yet again. This time, the man seemed to be making more mistakes. And it still seemed familiar, some how. A memory niggled in the back of his mind. He tried to grasp it, but to no avail.

What was it? Who was he?

"I am NOT stalking you! Aksia whispered loudly to Sasin, but she wasn't too sure of her answer either, Maybe she WAS stalking Sasin, but why was Sasin so frisky today? Normally when he was playful it meant he wanted to "Fight...Hurt something.." she whispered. Sasin also seemed to know this musician. And NOT in a good way, his eyebrows were furrowed , as if he was trying to grasp a slippery memory. Aksia was going to solve this problem. She walked into the tight circle around the man and sat down in the middle, facing the man.

"That's a wonderful song you're playing, but do you happen to know this man?" she said, pointing to Sasin.

Secret :
I know that Aksia is making this worse, but that's just how she acts XD

Aksai:To make a secret, the command is: {ooc=OOC}Blablah {/ooc} (square brackets though)

At the end of Klane's latest song a girl approached him. "That's a wonderful song you're playing, but do you happen to know this man?" Having temporarily forgotten Sasin, Klane looked in the direction she was pointing. Immediately all thoughts of the Dhani came rushing back. The Kelvic looked up for a moment, considering a good way answer.

"No. Why, should I know him?" Klane finally spoke, deciding that he should play it innocently. If the man had recognized had already Klane, there would have been commotion. Klane didn't know why Sasin was like that, after all, in Klane's mind he was only trying to keep his own kind safe on the night they met. Yet, to Sasin, in taking an aggressive stance against the snake-man, Klane had shown himself as racist, and the Dhani didn't like that. No, the Dhani HATED that. "Yeah," he added to reinforce the lie, "Never seen him before." It's scary how easy it is to blurt out a lie when your life may very well depend on it, and be almost impossible in an ordinary situation...
