Fall 2, 511 AV
Blythe sat atop her bed, the lavender-colored cotton sheets which lined it having been bunched up behind where she sat. Her older sister, Mist, sat across from her, leaning up against the head of the bead, supported only marginally by one of Blythe's pillows. Blythe's legs were folded beneath her, into a position similar to the lotus. In her lap, rested her shadowscapes tarot deck. "It has been so long since we delved into the cards together," Blythe whispered, her eyes shimmering with excitement as they settled upon her sibling. "I can't so much as begin to remember the last time Mist," she went on. As she spoke, she pulled the lid off the box of cards, and spilled them out into her left hand. She placed the box to her side, as she began to shuffle the cards. "So what brings you to me today Mist?" Blythe asked.
"I have a question to ask of the cards," came Mist's reply.
Blythe nodded. "But why not simply ask grandmother?" she asked. "For she is the one who taught all of us what we know. Surely that alone, means that she surpasses each of our skill, even when combined."
Mist shook her head. "She is far too busy to give her granddaughter a simple card reading right now." Blythe nodded, as she lay the cards face down on the bed, in the space that had gathered between each of their bodies.
"Ask a question of the cards, and then we should be able to determine how best to proceed," Blythe instructed.
Mist nodded. "I wish to ask the following: would it be wise to consider having another child?" Blythe looked at her sister, somewhat confused. Weren't the three children she had more than enough? Not only not, but who within all of Mura, was her sister considering for the use of creation; making the child?
Blythe nodded. "Perhaps then, sister, the relationship spread would prove most useful for it provides insight into the interaction between two people or entities. This insight, should allow us to determine whether or not you should have a child with whomever you have in mind." Blythe paused, "you do have someone in mind, don't you?" Mist nodded, causing Blythe to flash her a radiant smile. "I am most happy for you Mist," she whispered, before asking her to pick out seven cards, and then hand them to her. Mist nodded. "Just pass your left hand over the cards until one calls to you." The other Konti nodded once more, before pulling seven cards out of the pile, and handing them to Blythe.
Blythe took all of the cards from her sister, one by one, and placed them in a small pile, on her right knee. She then scooped up all the cards they would not be using, and placed them back in the box, before setting it aside. After that, she organized all the cards atop her knee into an "H," with three cards on each side, and one in the middle. Once all the cards were in place, Blythe flipped the first card over, the one on the top left. The card depicted a woman in a long, flowing green dress. She was standing on a ring of leaves, which framed the night sky and full moon. Her wavy black hair seemed to flutter in the wind, as a golden hat, in the shape of the crescent moon, kept it all from flying away. In her arms, she held a glowing, yellow-ish green orb. The card was upside down.
"This is the world card, in reverse. In this position, the card signifies your being incomplete, insecurity, fear of change, an inability to reach your goals, regret, and disappointment," Blythe explained. "The card in this position, is supposed to represent how you see yourself," she went on. "It suggests then, Mist, that you view yourself as an insecure, incomplete person. Perhaps this has to do with your never truly having settled down. Yes- you have three wonderful children, but the ones who helped you make them have not stuck around. Perhaps your insecurity lies in this- your fear that their lack of a father figure makes you a bad person, or a bad mother. That those men's inability to stick around means you weren't good enough for them, and can't be good enough for another." She paused for a moment. "Perhaps then, your fear of change is linked to this- your not wanting to draw someone into your children's lives after so much time has passed. A man, a father. Someone to provide them with a strong, masculine energy. Another sibling- a little sister, a brother. Something that may prove to throw off the current family dynamic." Blythe paused for a moment, to tuck a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear. "You feel disappointed in yourself for so much as considering the possibility of starting over. Of wrecking a good thing..."
