Cards, Cards and More Cards (Solo)

Blythe sat on the grass, directly across from her client. Streamers of golden-colored sunlight swept downwards, towards their island, bathing their pale flesh in its light. Causing the scales that lined their foreheads to sparkle. A clear, light blue sky danced around the sun, as several large, white fluffy clouds circled it, blocking it from sight from time to time. Before they were pushed into another section of the sky.

"If you wish to ask the cards if you will be receiving a raise, then perhaps, we should use the three cards spread," Blythe said, as she shuffled her shadowscapes tarot deck. "The spread provides insight into the emerging arc of the past present of future," she explained. "Thus, it should be able to provide us information on how you work... which could help us to determine whether or not you have earned a raise." She paused for a moment. "We won't be using a significator for this reading, or a card that represents you."

The konti sitting across from Blythe nodded as she stopped shuffling the cards, and began to spread them out between each of them. Laying the cards face down. "Pick three cards for the reading," Blythe instructed. "The ones your left hand feels guided to when it passes over them... when you have found them, hand the cards to me." The woman nodded, and soon did as she was told. She handed Blythe the cards.

Blythe placed the three cards her client had chosen on her right knee. She then scooped up all the cards that would not be used during the course of the reading and placed them back in the box. Afterwards, she placed the box to her side. She then lifted the three cards on her knee, and spread them out before them, face down. The first card to the left, the second in the stack in the middle, and the one on the bottom to the right. "Ready?" Blythe asked. Her client nodded.

Blythe flipped over the first card, the one on the left. It revealed a scantily clad woman with hair like fire holding onto a proud, and ferocious looking lion. She was surrounded by siamese cats, swans, and an uncertain sky. "This card represents an important element of your past," Blythe explained. "This is the strength card. It signifies power, health and physical fortitude. It represents your ability to recover from an illness. A sort of victory after a period of prolonged fear, or even anxiety. The ability to overcome any obstacles."

Blythe paused for a moment, allowing her words to sink in before she continued. "Given the early stages of this reading, it seems as though you have been a diligent, and hard-working employee in the past. You are strong- good at what you do. Skilled, something your employer should value greatly, if he or she has any sense." Blythe paused, "you often show up to work in good health, and should you fall sick, you quickly recover and return to your duties... you take your work very seriously, and although at times, your work life can become difficult, causing you to doubt yourself on occasion, you manage to pull through."

After giving her initial interpretation of the first card, Blythe flipped over the next, the one in the middle. The card depicted a woman in a long, flowing green dress. She was standing on a ring of leaves, which framed the night sky and full moon. Her wavy black hair seemed to flutter in the wind, as a golden hat, in the shape of the crescent moon, kept it all from flying away. In her arms, she held a glowing, yellow-ish green orb. "This is the world card," Blythe explained. "It represents a deciding element of the present." She paused for a moment, allowing herself to gather her thoughts before she continued. "It signifies your achieving balance, attainment of the heart's desire, fulfillment, and peace of mind."

Blythe smiled. "It seems as though you are finding peace in your work. That it makes you happy- that it balances your life out. Keeping a certain level of harmony within your soul. Within the time you spend attending to your responsibilities, and the time you spend enjoying yourself. The time you spend with friends and family." There was a slight pause, "everything seems to be going the way you wanted. Life is flowing smoothly, and easily. You are at peace. The people you work with should notice this, and appreciate it too."

With that, Blythe flipped over the last card, the card on the right. The card depicted a woman standing atop a large tree branch, which had been curled into an arch. The ends of the arch were surrounded by roses that were the color of the sun- red and orange. The dress the woman wore was the same color. Her long blonde hair tumbling down her back, around the edges of her pale, seemingly emotionless face. In her left arm, she held a large basket stuffed with butterflies of all different shapes and sizes. With her right, she seemed to be tossing the contents of the basket into the air. The butterflies, would flutter away, forming a small line until they reached the sun, and curled around it. The card was upside down; the empress in reverse.

"This card represents a critical element of the future," Blythe explained. "You have drawn the empress in reverse. It is associated with a stifling matriarchal influence. Unhappiness, selfishness, poverty and disruption of the home or family. Indecision, paranoia, and jealous rage." The woman frowned. "Well, this definitely puts a dark spin on this otherwise joyous reading," the konti commented, as she tucked a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear.

"It seems as though, despite all of your good qualities, and everything that was going on, something goes wrong, somewhere down the line," Blythe commented. "Whatever that is remains unclear. On one hand, the cards suggest you losing your job. They also suggest your feeling unfulfilled at work. Perhaps then, you will quit and fail to find another source of income, which leads to even more unhappiness, and your family being stricken by poverty." She paused for a moment. "You may also keep your job, and find that you hate it. Perhaps someone else gets a raise, causing you to become filled with a sense of envy. Or perhaps, you get the raise, but still feel as though you need more. That it wasn't want you had expected. The extra income doesn't make you happy... it leaves you empty."

Blythe swallowed the lump of saliva that had gathered in her throat. "The cards leave your future up to you," was all she said, finishing her interpretation. The other konti nodded, and was soon on her way, leaving Blythe to clean up after her first reading of the new season.
