6th day of Winter, 511AV

Glaive padded down the cobbled streets of Alvadas. Her sleek black coat of fur glimmered slightly in the moonlight. With no destination in mind she was simply walking down the winding paths seeing where they would lead. Her unsheather claws made a slight clatter each time they impacted with the ground beneath her paws. Her icy eyes darted from side to side and her ears flicked back and forth taking in every sight and sound that happened to cross her path.

How can people stand this place? She asked herself. Her low growls created a dark, menacing tune as she moved, it echoed up her throat. Not a single prey animal had crossed her sight since she had reached the walls of the city of illusions. Then her more civilized part of her mind countered, what kind of city lets wild deer roam there streets. Her growls deepened at her thoughts.

Glaive gazed a the buildings as she passed, they all looked the same to her. Unfamiliar scents attacked her from every angle as she walked passed countless doors. Where is everyone? She thought after awhile, this is one silent city. She had only encountered two people here, a man by the name of Arrow and a kelvic called Trouble. Three if she included the fat cat she had been tormenting out of boredom. She sighed, but in her current form it came out as a harsh purr.

An anooying tugging sensation came from her ankle so she glanced down and shifted to her human form in annoyance. Her pale skin stood out easily against her dark surroundings and her long black hair trailed down her back. She reached down and untied her pack which had become a nuisance and wrapped her dark blue cloak. She swung the pack onto her back as she got to her feet and the long fabric on her back trailed agains the stones beneath her bare feet.

Glaive clutched a dagger in her hand before she tied it on her leg using her thigh sheath to hide it from prying eyes but also giving her a sense of security in it being there. Her claw-like fingernailsreached out and trailed across the brick wall to her right for an instant before she dropped her hand and kept moving.

When is anyone going to appear? she to herself almost getting so lost in her thoughts she almost faceplanted into the wall which had suddenly appeared infront of her. She stopped an instant before she would have made contact and glared at it as if that would make it go away. Glaive sighed before turning away from the dead end and she started backtracking going back the way she had come moments before.

Varric was admiring his handy work, having liberated another young man from his coin purse. He rummaged through the purse and was disappointed to find it only contained 2 gm. "Well this sucks," he mumbled to himself. He was down on his luck, not having enough to afford a place of residence didn't help the situation. It was then he saw a woman walking down the street. She could be a profitable mark if he played his cards right. He crept behind her, dagger in hand ready to cut her purse strings, when he heard a loud crack from beneath his feet. He had stepped on a twig, one the city seemed to place in front of him as some kind of joke. Before the woman could turn around, he sheathed his dagger as quickly as he could. It was then he came to realization he was right behind her, and not wanting to creep her out spent several moments thinking of something to say. "Good evening, ma'am." he said, nervously.

The winter moon hung low in the sky and Laute closed his eyes in relief. This much light was more than enough and he stood there awhile, relaxing in the cool of the evening. Aditi stood beside him, her grey cloak tightly secured around her. Small yet sturdy, her frame was upright despite her trembling and hidden hands.

His own wings kept him warm enough, fur lining the muscle and skin. They shifted as he moved, adjusting to keep him warm. In the early days of winter, they sufficed.

There was really no reason to be walking out here so late. The shadows grew large on the walls, the velvet twilight appearing slowly as promised.

A wall appeared next to them, a house shimmering in and out of sight. Only this kept him out here on the cities streets, wandering aimlessly from place to place before he retired. Slowly, as he watched, buildings faded and merged, a mirage of time and space. Fascinating, no matter how many times he's seen it, and he awaited it each evening.

Nearby, he could smell a wild cat. What was a predator doing inside this city? It could be an illusion, but this combination of animal and human in its smell indicated a Kelvic.

This city truly attracted them--before here he had not met so many. The cat was close, very close, and it was only after he turned a newly formed corner that he saw the Kelvic. Behind her stood another, one that wasn't quite human.

No, he had the scent of that blood-woman. Quite the dangerous pair he happened upon.

Glaive walked for a little while before she sensed something behind her. It was something of a sixth sense that would have made her growl if she was in her cat form. She heard the ring of metal against something else that was quite familiar to her. After all her own dagger had made that sound many times when she had sheathed it.

Moments later the thing in question said 'Good evening, ma'am.' Glaive turned slowly on her heel so she was facing the man. She stared at him with her slitted eyes, her face remained void of emotion as she took in the man who was now infront of her. She had an instant suspicion of him as she had of most people. Glaive wasn't normally one to fall for a trap, she generally took it apart and turned it against the original creater of the device.

'Good evening to you to.' She said in purr of sorts. She gazed at him for what felt like minutes before her icy blue eyes returned to examining her ever changing surroundings. She pulled her cloak tighter around herself, her black hair lay flat against her back before she decided to ask, 'So what might your name be?' She raised her eyebrows in an enquiring way while waiting for her answer but that soon faded back to her original blank expression.

A glint of anticipation appeared in her eye, anticipation for a fight. It always happened to her when she first encountered people, it was something of a defence mechanism to hid her true self from prying eyes.

Out of the corner of her eye Glaive thought she saw movement so she leaned her back against the wall of a nearby bulding. She was in a position where she was side on to the man but could still see everything around her. Her eyes flicked to her right and she saw another person. Not just anyone because of the wings, but a Zith. She had heard about them on occasion but had never actually seen one before. Glaive focused half her attention on the the man but most of it was busy studying the winged person. A faint smile lit up her face, a deadly smile. This place is gathering quite a crowd tonight, she thought to herself silently before leaning her head against the hard bricks behind her, so she had a better and more comfortable view.

What might my name be? Varric thought in a panic, it wasn't often he slipped up like this and he wasn't quite sure how to react. He briefly thought of lying, he had a number of aliases, but he didn't see the harm in telling her his real name. "Varric, Varric Ulex. Th-merchant." He was about to say thief, but that wouldn't look too good under the given circumstances. He noticed the slit, cat like eyes and came to the conclusion this woman was a kelvic, not his favorite race. Someone in his profession can do without the whole "heightened senses" thing.

He noticed the womans eyes move behind him and checked to see what it was. A zith? he thought, not a common sight. Thinking it would be rude to stare he so he quickly turned his attention to the kelvic. "A-and may I ask your name?" He asked, rather nervously. Kelvic eyes, especially feline ones, always creeped Varric out. They always seem like they're seeing more than they might let on. Let's hope she's not a big cat He thought, planning an escape in case something went awry.

As the man sheathed his knife, it clanged loudly in Laute's ears. An animal might have good senses, but there were very few who could compete with a Zith in the night. Even from where he stood, he could hear the minuet beats of their hearts, the quiet exhales as their lungs contracted. The smallest gleam of his knife was bright in the dim light, warning Laute of the possibility of danger.

The Kelvic was tense, her body coiled up and ready for retaliation. In comparison, the man was nervous, the smell of fear lightly cloaking his body. Strange, considering what this man was--he had met one of his kind before. The blood priestess, dancing on the roofs after the rain, an open book in her hands. As she twirled, flecks of red sprayed the ground, none of the poison that hid in her fangs layered in her blood.

The same deadly venom ran through him as well, not that one could tell by the way he acted. Nervous, slightly hunched, and even his voice wavered. Varric was not as enticing as his kin, none of the pride that hounded her steps echoed in him.

Nonetheless, he walked toward the duo, his feet muffled on the cobbled steps. This was still an unusual encounter and Laute had yet to categorize kelvics by their scent alone.

The wind ruffled his fur as he approached, the scent of the two streamlined in the breeze.

"Stay close," he murmured to his slave, a warning he didn't have to give. She knew by now the safest place to be in these foreign lands. Silently, Aditi slipped behind him as he walked, no more than a phantom in the dark.

Glaive gazed at the Zith for a few moments before hearing the man, Varric's, answer to her question. He spoke "A-and may I ask your name?" Glaive thought quietly as to how she should answer the question. She glanced around before replying, 'You may.' It was a habit of her's to respond without giving away, what the person she was conversing with, actually wanted to know.

Glaive could smell the man's nervousness, it surrounded him like a thick fog and her eyes narrowed. The air around Varric was tinged with the bitter scent of poison and Glaive immediately coiled her muscles up so she was prepared for any of the situations she saw coming.

A movement to her right made her flick her icy gaze over to the Zith as he moved. Glaive soon noticed that there was actually two people standing there instead of the one she had assumed to have seen. She couldn't determine exactly what race it was because of the distance and Varric as a obstruction but she guessed it was just a human. 'And what is your name?' She purred leaning her head on her shoulder to give off the appearance of being relaxed. Glaive threw her hair behind her back to stop it from blowing annoyingly in the wind.

Her expression softened and she made sure to arrange her features carefully to give out a less tense image. She let a faint friendly smile grace her lips and she let her arms drift down to rest by her sides. She glanced up at the sky for a moment before she realized the time. Better be going, she thought to herself and walked into the shadows of a newly appeared alley and out of sight.
