Sethos
[

What you see before you...

Age: 23
Height: 6'4
Birthday: Season of Winter, Day 31, 488AV
Gender: Male
Race: Akalak
Physical Description

ImageSethos stand tallest at 6'4 and is solid muscle of about 245lbs, he has icy blue eyes and gray-black skin typical of his race. Nothing truly stands out about him (at least not in Riverfall). Not generally considered handsome he has sharply chiseled features with relatively deep-set eyes and slightly thicker than average eyebrows.

He tends to walk around shirtless and barefoot if he is at home or anywhere else he is staying. When travelling or during battle though he adorns whatever armor he has in his possession and shoes, of course! For clothing he prefers earthy tones and golds or browns, nothing that attracts too much attention. Sethos has many scars but most have healed well and are not visible at first and his deeper scars are hidden beneath his shirt and pants (a particularly long on runs down his back all the way from his right shoulder to the side of his left thigh).

Sethos (WIP)

Postby Sethos on December 29th, 2011, 3:47 am

Is not what lies inside…

There Are Two of Me
Character Concept

Sethos
This is Sethos(s) dominant personality and generally speaking he is easy-going, quick to laugh and smile but this is not true for the stronger emotions, fear, rage or even acute sadness bring out his dark brother so he often lids these emotions under tight reigns. Though he can never actually lie about how he feels seeing as his facial features will give him away, so you can always expect to be straight-forward and honest (ie--He will tell you he is getting angry and flat out walk away).

Far from being a ‘muscle bound oaf’ (as he has been dubbed by drunkards) he is exceptionally intellectual and philosophical and is known to enjoy a good book or two…when he is not training till he drops. Due to this he is a complete failure at relationships, often being slapped for being much too analytical or literal or being permanently entered in the ‘friend zone’ for his awkward ways around the opposite sex (especially the more sensual variety). Though it has given him much of his tactical abilities in fighting and a patience that knows no bounds as well as the ability to easily capture knew ideas and training concepts.

Mostly a people person he is fast a making friends, he has a unique way of making people feel comfortable and open up to him, though they can reveal their inner-most secrets they will find, upon reviewing the conversation, he did not even reveal his name.

Perhaps due to the hands on approach and physical prowess of the Akalak he is generally a take charge person, often finding himself quickly (though efficiently) taking over anything that is not going well. But this is highly subjective seeing as he is a bit of a perfectionist and quite hard on himself he often feels the need to have everything done ‘just so’(it can be highly annoying). He will sometimes forget to value others input and feelings, feeling his belief or tradition is the only way, he is quite rigid in this.

Sethos is not a truly prideful man (and has no qualms putting what little he has aside when it calls for it) but he is passionate about what he believes in and when he sets his mind to something is damnable hard to change it or sway him in any other direction.

Ethics and Beliefs
Sethos believes in loyalty, honor and the value of one’s word; if you say it, you must see it through and damn the consequences. He has a great respect for the Knights and what they stand for though he himself has no desire to be one.

He is firm advocate of all life being equal and that no-one has the right to take life unless it is in self-defense. Sethos is one who does not even enjoy taking an animal’s life and often gives prayers and thanks to both Dira, Caiyha and Kihala after having done so. Due to the warrior nature of his people his strong value of life of all things often clashes with his need and duty to follow tradition (it was hard for him to summon the urge to kill the Glassbeak during his 15th year) but his need to stay loyal to tradition usually outweighs his dislike of killing, though he has no trouble voicing his distaste for it.

Sethos shows a particular passion for religion in general, even if he does not particularly enjoy all of them and what they represent he understands their purpose and how the keep balance in all things…usually. A strong worshipper of Wysar though it has fallen due to his inadequate control of his ‘dark brother’ still he is aware that it is unfair to blame Wysar for he himself needs to be firmer with who he wants to be. He truly loves Akaji but cannot help the bit of inbred resentment (mostly annoyance) of her for his less than savory half.

But his most inner heart belongs solely to Eyris, he values her above all, for without her knowledge he could not win the battles he has, he would know nothing and therefore be nothing. He loves her in body and soul as no other and his ultimate goal in life is to be her champion.

Chaslin
Suave, belligerent and vicious, this side of his is flamboyant with vindictive, sadistic tendencies, often wreaking havoc for the sake of having nothing better to do. Much of his ‘dark brother’ would be that of a stereotypical lazy, arrogant and cruel prince from folktales whose true desires are unknown even to Sethos himself.

He does know that while Cashlin believes in no Gods he seems to enjoy the company of those who worship Nikali, Ryhsol, Vayt & Krysus and while Cashlin himself shows no sense of honor he is astoundingly brave and rushes into things without thinking unlike his more tactical counterpart.

Not much else is known of this ‘dark brother’ he has only just begun showing himself, though with terrifying force, it is obvious he does not wish to stay in the shadows for long and he truly seems to enjoy tormenting Sethos by leaving him with the consequences of his (Chaslin(s)) actions.

Gnosis
  • Lykata-1
Secret :
He sat comfortably against the rock skimming through the book, his spear laying comfortably across his legs, he figured he had trained enough for one day, even if the Rite was coming soon nothing would prepare him for what could and most likely would come. His father had spoken to him of the dangers but one could never judge the outcome based on skills alone, even physical prowess would not be enough and so he had figured his next task would be to research the Glassbeak, after all actions may speak louder than words but without the words you do not take action.

Leafing through the book, he eyed the diagrams carefully, pulling out his own spare parchment and taking notes of the strengths and where it would be easiest to strike. He was not fond of the need to kill the creature but he already gone through the argument a few times with his father, it was a Rite of Passage, he could not decline to go on personal beliefs. He would prove who he was and what he was worth and if he weighed if carefully, Glassbeaks were a threatening thing, especially to children who accompanied their parents on outings.

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts he wondered about the terrain, oh he knew the basics, he lived there his whole life but there would be no telling where or when they would find one. He had to take everything in account beforehand…

As he wrote and jotted down ideas for a general plan a soft smile curved on his lips and his mind seemed to lull into a sense tranquility and relaxation, he rarely felt this sense of self unless he had a book in hand, the things they gave him, the ideas the planted! All of it led to something else, a great inter-connected web of…something, something he couldn’t put his finger on. But it did not matter, it made him happy and he craved for more of that something and to him, it was enough.

He had not realized the time until he found no matter how hard he squinted he could not read the pages nor his own writing. Raising his eyes up, he noted Leth was nearly rising to take over, only a bit of Syna’s light remained visible. Folding his parchment he felt goose bumps rise at the sudden knowledge of night coming, strange how one does not know they are cold until they actually think of it, shrugging he hurried back towards the University at a slow job, he had to return the book before everyone went home for the evening and maybe he could stay a little after closing and grab a few more books.

“Curse me for not coming out with a jacket.” muttering a few foul words under his breath about winter and the wind he slipped into the main hall just as most of the visitors were exiting.

“I think he’s still in there, maybe, he might have locked it early for today.”

Surprise filled Sethos face, “Closed? But they only close for dinner, it’s not dinner yet!”

The protest was obvious in his voice and it was only a few seconds later that hearty laughter greeted his words, “I couldn’t keep that in! You sounded much too disappointed, I’m only kidding. He took his dinner in with him. Apparently someone lost a book, so he didn’t want to leave.”

“Can I consider that payback for the lemon accident?”

A blank look adorned the man’s features, “No.”

Smothering his laughter as best he could Sethos nodded, trying to look at least partially guilty before slipping into the library and shutting the door silently behind him, he moved quickly towards the desk, shaking his head at the loud angry whispers of the man and woman at the desk. Obviously the book was not coming back and he was obviously not happy. Sliding his book onto the desk and receiving a small jerky nod from the attendant he slipped away and into the rows of books towards a section of more interest to him.

There were not many historical books on the Akalak history, not from what he could see, much had obviously been lost in their previous city but what they had always drew his attention, especially the books pertaining to their dual nature. It was dangerous to be so far in age and not yet even felt the presence of his other self, it could mean many things but he hoped it meant nothing.

“Back again.”

So lost in in his musings he missed the presence beside him, his arm swinging in surprise, though he pulled it back before he struck out. Those surprise exercises his brother was drilling him on were beginning to make him jumpy, afraid his brother would appear out of the shadows with his ghastly staff. But the owner of the voice was obviously not his brother and obviously very feminine.

The woman that stood before shocked him silent, an Akontak. Rare and shocking because he only knew of one Akontak in Riverfall and it was not the one before him and when she repeated the question slower he felt all the more a fool for standing there stupidly.

“Ah, yes.”

She delicately plucked a book from the titles he had been glancing over, reading it aloud, “’The Dual Nature’, it is what you were looking for?”

“No, uh, wait, yes.” smooth, very smooth. Mentally he smacked his forehead continuing, though he avoided staring at her for too long, “I have not yet met my other self.”

“It will come.” something in her voice made him finally look to her face, it had sounded so sure, knowing and when his eyes traveled over her face carefully, finally reaching her eyes he was once more shocked into silence.

“Eyris.”

He received no answer but he knew, actually he felt as if he knew quite a few things, everything suddenly made sense. He felt a peace he had never known before, everything was as it should be, as it was meant to be.

Sethos probably would have stood there and stared into her eyes for many an hour but it was she who turned her gaze away and down to the title of the book once more, “Tell me, this knowledge you seek, why do you crave it?”

“I—I want…I need…” his thoughts felt jumbled after her gaze left his, he missed the feeling at having locked eyes with her and it left his thoughts scattered, though she seemed to be waiting patiently for his answer.

“I want to know…everything, I—“ he still could not put it into thoughts and she interrupted him smoothly, leaving him feeling a bit stupid even if she had not meant to.

“To teach. You wish to teach and give the knowledge you will hold.”

For a spilt second her gaze locked with his once more, “Yes.”

The word escaped his lips in a breathy, chocked gasp; then she smiled, it was a slow almost shy smile and it captured his attention nearly as much as her eyes and the delicate hand that reached out to him, pressing the book into his hand. As her finger tips pulled away she nodded to him once and turned to walk away, moving speedily through the isle and out of his sight.
He did not follow though his attention drawn to his hand and the faint pricking sensation bubbling beneath the back of it and right before his very eyes the Lormar appeared, glowing slightly in the dim lighting.

“Lykata…” The word fell from his lips much like Eyris’s name and was followed by a stumbled thanks, “I will not fail you Eyris.”

He did not know what the promise meant or what entailed, he did not even truly know the reason for her gift but he would do everything within his power to make sure he had truly earned it.

My Past Does Not Tell Me Who I Am…

Image

It Tells Me What I Must Do

Pre-creation

Sethos was born Riverfall, much to the joy of both his mother and father they honestly thought she would be okay, seeing as she made it through the actual birthing but unfortunately his mother lived no more than a month after he was born. The physical aspect was too taxing and she never recovered.

Sethos lived a wonderful childhood though, his surrogate mother was a beautiful Konti by the name of Mi’tavi. Having two other children born by Sethos father (Malik) she visited Riverfall often or vice versa. Much of his temperament is actually from his step-mother rather than his stern and silent father.

Having two siblings and being the youngest he had many people to learn from and learned quickly, absorbing things much like a sponge, he thoroughly enjoyed training of any kind, often forgetting to rest and passing out much to the amusement of his siblings.

He aged rapidly and healthy but even when he neared the age for his Rite of Trail and yet no sign of his ‘dark brother’ had emerged, this worried both his parents and his elder brother who had shown at an early age much like his father and his father before him.

Sadly enough it was not until just before the Rite that his darker brother chose to emerge, it was such a subtle and sudden thing they were unprepared, especially Sethos. Needless to say it did not end well and his teammate very near perished. Terrified of his other half he carefully smothered his emotions, keeping careful check of his reactions and the company he kept. He made no urge to truly suppress it though for he did not wish (nor did his parents) for him to end up in a watch list.

It was not until he met Arloss, a mix-blood who was freed from slavery via his father, agreeing to stay in Riverfall for many reasons she lived with the family comfortably. Eventually she was engaged to Sethos for his brother already had a wife, not to mention the two were like children with a crush. It went variably well, Arloss had a knack for keeping Sethos in check and even his less than friendly side and calling Sethos back to the surface.

All goods things must come to an end though, it would seem the Arloss had been keeping dangerous secrets and had ties to the Black Sun, when he learned of this Sethos rage and fear for her knew no bounds and perhaps both souls were even on the same side for once, for when he awoke after finding out this news Arloss was blinded and crippled.

Not believing he could have truly done something that cruel a part of him snapped. He began to hate himself and his people for their curse and in his mourning and bout of self-loathing he caught the eye of the Council. He was not considered a threat but he had the potential to be, not to mention he had to answer for his crime but Arloss refused to fight him in the Gideon Combat Arena and instead served him for one season. Even though Arloss explained herself and told him she did not blame him, Sethos could not forgive himself; he never wanted to do something like that again! But he knew he could not stop it, suppressing your dark brother lead to consequences, he had learned the hard way.

Shortly after Arloss(s) indentured period ended he immersed himself in physical training and meditating, he visited the library many times but could never find what he search for: A way to rid himself of his dark brother. Where the mad idea came from he was unsure but anyway to remove that part of him gave him a sense of purpose and hope, it allowed his mind to ease from the tension and by default control his dark brother better, though he does not realize it.

During this time the Council agreed that while he seemed to be better than before he would not be on a watch list and if he showed further signs of having no control he would be sent to the Cerulean. It was during this time, around his twentieth year that his father mentioned the books in Zelvita and the knowledge accumulated there, it was Mi’tavi’s idea, send him away till he found himself and though his Father loathed to let him leave in such a state he acquiesced, on the terms he return in time for his 30th birthday for his Rite of Passage.

Relieved to be leaving the things that seemed to trap him and guilty for things he could not name Sethos readily agreed and shoved his past deep within himself, focusing on his task at hand and his Goddess Eyris. And yet he has yet to leave, though he reasons most likely have something to do with Cashlin interferring before he can actually leave.
