Kill him. Maim him. Dust him like we've been for so long. He deserves it. He was like us. He deserves to suffer. Kill him.

By now Aello can tell that she could get no where with these ghosts. They had gone crazy like Vulpin had. Aello might feel pity for them, having to stay here for so long. They would never meet Dira in the afterlife if she didn't help them. But she didn't know how to do so unless one told her. If only Leon would appear.

And while Aello's brother didn't appear, Aello would soon here a voice seperate from the flood of other voices. The voice was humming, and Aello could tell it was a girl's voice. And when it spoke, she could only picture a young girl with pigtails and a dress. A young girl who died young.

You can't kill him Aello. Dust him and Dira will handle him. That's all you have to do.

Aello knew what she needed to do. And while she might never successfully dusted a ghost, she would know soulimist is needed. So how will she make her soulimist this time. And where?

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Aello on November 10th, 2011, 1:36 am

What did we just say about Vulpin's already being dead? Aello's mind questioned the voices in her head. It's a bit too late to be killing him.

Aello paused. It's a bit too late for anything really, she thought, as she passed her hand over the area where her cursed dagger lay in wait. She was surprised Vulpin hadn't noticed it yet, resting against her thigh. For all the other ghosts she had encountered said it called to them, glowed almost. That it seemed little more than a beacon of light. Perhaps then, the ghost was merely ignoring it? If he really was a ghost, that is. It didn't call to the living the way it called to the deceased...

What if I merely torment him with the blade? Aello asked, thinking it the best she could do, considering the circumstances.

But the voices were persistent, especially those that seemingly belonged to the youngest amongst them. Those that should have been akin to innocence, but had lost it long ago, along with their older counterparts.

But Dira would never approve of that... for it keeps you all from the cycle. The best that could be done, is to undust all of you, and simply torment Vulpin until he decides to relent. To cease making your lives miserable... for he can't die again. Not another day.

OOCSorry this is pretty short. I just don't think Aello would run right into dusting someone. Especially when Dira does not approve... not like she could anyway even if she wanted to, seeing as she still has to whip up a batch of soulmist.

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Nathan Longstride on November 13th, 2011, 7:00 pm

It was wise for Aello to wonder why Vulpin hadn't noticed her cursed dagger which rested on her thigh. Other ghosts she had met in the past felt drawn to it, yet Vulpin acted as if it wasn't there. But really he did feel it. He knew Aello had it on her, but his pride that he had had since before he died told him she couldn't beat him even with it. But really he didn't want to mention it at all. If he noticed it, Vulpin was sure all the ghost around them in that room felt it too. And if he brought his attention on it like they probably had, he would get caught in their torments.

All the while the voices continued to rant inside of her mind, but that little girl was silent. But she didn't stay quiet, answering Aello's thoughts.

Dira will understand, Aello. Vulpin could've left this home at any time after our master died. He could've told Dira where we all were at. He could've been the messenger that save us from being dusted. But he didn't. He left us like this, feeling since we weren't as strong as him, we didn't deserve to have the same freedom as him. He deserves to suffer if but a little.

An image will appear in the mind of Aello. She would see a little girl, maybe seven or eight. She is wearing a cute green dress that went to her knees and was designed with flowers. The girl, whose blond hair is in pigtails, is holding her right hand out. Her pinky is the only fingering sticking out.

I pinky promise Dira will learn where Vulpin is after you help us. He'll suffer, but only for a little while. And then he'll return to Dira. And she'll decide his fate.

The image disappears from her mind as Vulpin grabs her by the forearm. How had he walked up on her without any sound? So Aello could only follow or have her arm ripped from the socket as Vulpin led her to a door. Dust him, Aello, and your goddess will do the rest. That was the last she heard from the girl before Vulpin opened the door, and led her into the back.

Aello got a brief look at the next room. A dining room with a long table is seen, about two dozen tables set up for the previous owner's dinner parties. But today it is deserted, several of the tables broken, and dust covers everything. Aello might've figured some of that dust was more ghosts trapped in the worst punishment they could endure. But she never got the chance to here their pleas as Vulpin rushed her into the back room that could almost be one place. The kitchen.

Stepping in, Vulpin released her. "Do what you must to shut those petching voices up." And with that, he was gone. But was she alone?

If you'd like go on and look for some food that you might think would still be there. Aello doesn't know how long these ghosts had been here, and there just might be food around that hadn't spoiled. And if not, there is always alcohol. . .

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Aello on November 14th, 2011, 1:18 am

Aello looked around the kitchen. It seemed fairly standard to her. A stove, sink, a bunch of cabinets that held who only knows what. Cobwebs hung in some of the corners. Spiders with black bodies dangling from them. Their legs curled into their abdomens, as they hung suspended in space. Long dead, as she imagined most of the ghosts to be. A thin sheet of dust covered every corner of the room. Thus, when she stepped towards the center, small clods of the wispy grey matter swirled around her boots angrily. The area smelled strongly of rotten food.

"He said to do anything that was necessary..." Aello whispered absently to herself, as she looked around. Deciding that she would have to uncover every last portion of the place, simply to see what she had to work with. She started with the stove, opening the door to the old oven which hung underneath. It creaked open, the door swinging back surprisingly quickly, considering she doubt it had been used any time in the recent past. There was nothing inside, just as the girl had expected. There wasn't much in the sink, just a few dirty plates. Bits of food crusted onto them. Greys, browns and whites that Aello assumed must be producing the foul odor which hung about the place. She could just make out the sight of a few flies buzzing angrily around the mess. Make out the beating of their wings, the subtle sound it produced.

That's not going to help much either, Aello thought, as she turned to the cabinets. But maybe there is something inside one of these that will prove to be somewhat useful, Aello's mind whispered as she moved closer to the wall upon which the wooden cabinets were mounted. Aello extended her right hand towards the handle on the right cabinet door. Her pale fingers wound themselves around it, and eased it back, gently. Before she had gotten the door open halfway, the handle broke, throwing the girl's hand back. Her eyes grew wide as her fingers unfurled, allowing the handle to fall through the air. Twirling, twisting, until it clattered onto the floor, sending a cloud of dust into the air.

Maybe we should try the other one, Aello thought, as she reached for it instead, and eased the door back. When the door had opened as far as it would go, Aello let go of the handle, and pushed the other side of the cabinet open by pushing her palm against the back side of the door. When each was open, she began to survey the contents. She could see a few dark sack cloths, and two bottles of what appeared to be wine in the corner. Aello pulled each of the bottles out first, and placed them on the counter. She gently pushed her hand over the length of the bottle, getting as much of the dust off as possible. She could see the line of liquid within the bottle. Each no more than half full. Aello reached for the nearest bottle, and held it tightly in her right hand, while she pulled the cork off with her left. She lifted the bottle, and held the top beneath her nose. She pushed it slowly from left to right. Definitely wine, Aello thought, as she put the cork back, and pushed the bottles to the end of the counter.

When she had done that, Aello reached for each of the cloth sacks. She pulled them forward, and then let them fall from the cabinet onto the counter. Dust swept over its length, as a soft thud reverberated off the walls. Aello reached for the bags, pulling one open first, and then the other. Flour and sugar, Aello thought, as she studied the white powder in one bag, and then the small white crystals in the other. Too scared to taste it as of now, lest it have gone bad ages ago. After all, how could you tell unless you could see something in it? Which, given the poor lighting, Aello couldn't see much of anything. She could only rely on her hearing, and sense of smell, for the most part. Neither of which proved to be of much use in this situation. Of course, she could try to use her magic, but in her present condition she wanted to avoid that as much as possible, knowing it would only tire her out and weaken her further.

Perhaps soulmist can be made out of this stuff, if only we had a container to mix it all in, Aello thought, as she backed out of the kitchen, thinking that perhaps she could find a bowl or even a dish to use in the remnants of the next room. The one with all of the broken tables.

OOCUm... hopefully I understood you right. If you want to decide if the flour and stuff is good, feel free. Hopefully I didn't over-extend my boundaries with the description of what she found...

Also, I felt I should leave off here, just in case you wanted me to encounter Vulpin in the next room or something... also, I should need to know if there's anything useful in the next room, apparently...

Thanks.

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Nathan Longstride on November 16th, 2011, 12:42 am

The wine smelled alright, the flour and sugar not so much. But what did Aello expect to find in a mansion that could've been abandoned for decades? She was lucky to find anything at all, but anything was better than nothing. And what did it matter if the sugar and flour tasted good? Soulimist didn't have to taste the best to ghosts for it to the do the magic that was intended of it. And Aello, if she realized this, could assume on her own that anything that freed these ghosts from their fate was good, no matter the taste. At least that was what could be assumed. Who knew? Maybe imprisonment in the say room for years could turn someone picky. Probably not, but it was a possibility.

As Aello stepped back into the room Vulpin just brought her through on their trip to the kitchen, the spiritist will be provided with a better chance to survey her surroundings. On the long dining table flat plates and wine glasses rested in their deathly state, untouched in who knows how long. Nothing was able to hold as much soulimist as what Aello needed. So she needed to look elsewhere.

And then she found the solution to her problems. On the left wall stood a cabinet meant to hold the special china and win glasses when they were usneeded for a meal. And on top of the cabinet was a bowl. Aello could possibly learn why someone put a bowl on top of the cabinet. Maybe a slave had something to hide, or the previous owner had decorations in it before he met his demise. The world may never know. But Aello knew that was what she needed to mix the soulimist. If anything, it was the answer to the first question.

But as Aello stood there, she would have to wonder how she was to get up there. The cabinet was six feet tall and the bowl rested in the center. Aello was too short to just reach up and grab the bowl. She needed an item to stand on so she could then grab the object she truly needed. Sure she had chairs, but were they reliable? The table was sturdy, but was she truly stong enough to pull it over enough to reach the bowl?

It seemed an easy decision; use the chair. She had to get the bowl before Vulpin returned. She had no idea how the man would react if he found her outside the room he left her in. And after all that she had gone through, did she really want to test him? So Aello is left with one option. Grab the chair and hope nothing goes wrong. But where could one find hope in Ravok?

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Aello on November 16th, 2011, 1:57 am

Aello strode over to the chair nearest the cabinet, and tugged it over to the side of the wooden case. She ignored the dust that now caked her fingers, and took a deep breath. In through the nose, and out through the mouth. "Alright, here goes," she whispered, as she put her right foot on the seat of the chair, and then the left. She pushed her legs against the bottom, and urged her body to stand up straight and tall. The seat wobbled beneath her. Tipping forward, and then back. The floor must be uneven, Aello thought, as she decided it was best to get this over with as quickly as possible, lest she fall over and hurt herself even more than Vulpin already had.

Slowly, the young spiritist raised both of her arms, extending her hands, and pushing her fingers apart. They glided silently through the air towards the bowl. Almost there... almost there... almost... Aello's fingers brushed up against the dust-caked bowl. Flecking some of the powdery grey away from it. They began to curl around the gentle slope of it, as it turned away from her. As its fading porcelain sheen sank away into the shadows cast upon it by the darkened walls. Her fingers walked along the bowl's curve, inching it closer to her, closer to the edge of wood.

Aello was biting her bottom lip, trying not to breath as her chair continued to wobble, as she inched the bowl closer to her. Almost... there... Aello tipped the bowl closer, and curled her fingers around the edge. Smiling at her small victory, the girl made to get off the chair, putting her left foot down first, and then the right, nearly tripping over it as the chair shook beneath her once more.

Phew, that was a close one, Aello thought, as she made her way back into the kitchen, and placed the bowl down on the counter, gently. Now to make some soulmist, she thought, as she blew on the bowl, lifting the dust off of its surface and into the air. Where it swirled around slowly, floating in space as it fell softly, silently, and settled on the countertop. As the dust moved, Aello reached for the closest bottle of wine, and pulled the cork off. She poured the liquid into the bowl, just enough to cover the bottom completely, before she set it back down on the counter. She reached for the flour next, and poured a thin coat of white powder upon the shallow red puddle. The two mixed together, forming a clumpy pink blob, as the powder was overcome by moisture. Last, Aello reached for the sugar, and poured a few grains inside the bowl, before placing the sack back down on the counter.

Aello sighed. Hopefully this recipe will do, she thought, as she reached for the bowl, and encased it in each of her tiny hands. Pale hands, trembling with the thought that she may fail, for she had never made the mist quite like this before. Gingerly, Aello lifted the bowl to her lips, and tilted it upwards, easing the mixture past them, and onto her tongue. The girl winced at the taste, but forced everything in, before placing the bowl back down. She chewed slowly, methodically, for a time, before pulling her dagger out of concealment.

Time to add the final ingredient. The girl raised her left hand a little higher, and then ran her blade across the middle finger. A line of blood appeared as she put the dagger away, and lifted her hand to her lips, careful not to let her prize spill. When the finger had reached her lips, she turned it over, and held out her tongue, letting the blood drip onto it. She raised her right hand, and pinched the wounded finger, to help the process along. One drop, two... three...

Finally, Aello dropped her hands, and closed her mouth. She resumed her chewing, and tried to think of pleasant things, just to distract herself from the unpleasant taste in her mouth. Things like feeding Yune, or what it would be like to meet Dira, or spending time with her companions. After several chimes, the girl's mouth had grown cool. Her teeth began to chatter. Thin wisps of white smoke slipped through her lips, creating a slender, transparent veil that stretched from her mouth to her dark brown eyes.

It is ready, Aello thought, as she lifted the bowl to her lips, and spit the mist into it. It was an off-white gel, which seemed to glow despite the lack of light. "Now we're in business," Aello whispered, as she put the bowl down on the counter.

If only she knew that to do...

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Nathan Longstride on November 21st, 2011, 9:33 pm

Sorry for such a long wait for my reply. My cousin had a wedding and most of my time went towards the preparation and the actual wedding itself. But I'm back and ready to get caught back up

If Aello had any clue knew which god reigned over the domain of luck, she would be sure to lift a praise up to them. First she got the bowl off the top without alerting anybody nearby of what she was doing. Granted she didn't know what would've happened if she was caught, but better to assume the worst than to experience it. And her luck continued as her attempt at making soulimist was a success. Sure she was what some would call to an expert at things such as this, but Aello didn't know if the ingredients she had found would work. She was going on the assumption that it would work. And it did.

But it was wise for the woman to wonder what was next. She had her soulimist, but no clue on what she should do with it. Should she undust the imprisoned ghosts? Or should she defeat Vulpin first? Aello would have to worry about her next decision because it could decide whether she lived or died. The strength of Vulpin had yet to been revealed to Aello. He could be as weak as a kitten, or as strong as ghosts she had met in the past. And maybe if she freed the ghosts, they could help her defeat Vulpin. If they even could.

All Aello knew was that she needed to find a ghost. And there were none in this room, or else they would've been speaking to her. Her first short-term goal was to get the shyke out of this room. After that, it truly was unknown. It was like whispering in the dark. You never know if someone hears you.

Sorry for a short post. Just skip through the dining area as there are no ghosts in there. We'll see what to do next.

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Aello on November 22nd, 2011, 2:10 am

Aello took a deep breath, in through the nose, and out through the mouth. A release with a soft sigh. Well, it doesn't seem likely that I'll receive any more instruction in here. Considering the fact that not a single voice has infiltrated my mind. Considering the fact that Vulpin has not returned to check on the state of all things. Perhaps then, it will be best to leave this place, and search for answers somewhere else, Aello thought, as she picked the bowl back up, and turned to leave the room. She was out within an instant, and back in the dining hall, where she had encountered her soulmist container. She stood still, silent, waiting for something or someone to come out and greet her. To try and tell her what to do. To offer her any sort of direction. But no one came. The room was as still and silent as the young spiritist herself. The only thing that stood any chance of breaking the sound barrier, the silence, was the increasingly rapid pace her heart had taken.

After standing awkwardly in that place with her bowl of soulmist, for what felt like an eternity, Aello continued on into the next room. Maybe there will be someone here. Someone to direct... maybe it won't be as quiet as the kitchen. Or the dining hall. Perhaps in this place they will all return. Vulpin and the others, or perhaps, simply a single set. Aello's thoughts came to a grinding halt, as she took another step into the center of the room. She was tempted to call to them. Any of them, just so that she may hear something other than herself. But a part of her seemed afraid. Kept on telling her not to do that. At least, not right now.

Where is everybody? Aello wondered.

OOCIt's ok, I am in no rush.

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Verilian on January 20th, 2012, 5:56 pm

If Aello had any notion of how difficult it was for a dusted ghost to reach out she might understand why they took so long to speak. But Leon could have come to her at any time, yet as he had done since the day he died, Aello's brother left her to solve things by herself. Or perhaps he couldn't come to her. Perhaps he couldn't risk being caught by Vulpin. It took some time, but eventually the voices did return.

Kill him.. make him suffer.. make him like us. You must kill him..

Not that the voices were at all helpful. Where was Leon? Where was Vulpin? Was was the little girl, who seemed to be the strongest of the mass of voices?

The voices seemed distant, more so than out in the hall by the stairs. Perhaps the answer was to follow them, to listen to their volume and go in whatever direction the grew stronger? It was a theory, anyway. But Aello wouldn't test it right away. The rise and fall of the voices were only a prelude to Vulpin's return, who came through the door and walked over to the spiritist.

"What are you doing? Have you taken care of the voices yet? What is that stuff?"

Vulpin seemed less composed then when they first met. More prone to anger, perhaps, or perhaps the voices were tormenting him again. Either way, he wasn't happy, and he almost raised a hand to strike Aello for no other reason than he was frustrated. He wanted the house to be his again, to shut up all the voices, and to be rid of this woman whom they all called for. But he didn't strike her, not yet anyway. He was getting desperate, he wanted to answer. Of course he answer would result in a strike, for he knew she had not yet taken care of the voices. It didn't matter what she said, he would strike her, and then demand she tell him her plan.
Forecast for tonight... Dark

Whispers in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Aello on January 21st, 2012, 12:40 am

Startled, Aello jumped up a little when Vulpin approached her, causing the contents of her bowl to lap up angrily against its confines, begging to be let out. She could feel its cool breath, extending its tongue so that it may lick the tips of her fingers, but never quite touching. She could feel is cool air against her flesh, as she stared into Vulpin's eyes. The mercilessly cool expanse, which she felt may very well be staring directly into her soul.

"Just looking for you, and for them," Aello replied rather uneasily, as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, and forced her gaze down, onto the hardwood floor, closest to her feet. "They seem to be hiding you see. Makes it rather difficult for someone to take care of them for you," she went on, with a small smile, as though to say she was sorry, or perhaps even hiding her muddied thoughts. Her confusion, as to how to proceed.

"This is soulmist," Aello went on, as she raised the bowl a little, in gesture. "It is what the dead are made out of, and should allow me, as one living, to interact with them for a time. It is them, the dead you know, that call to you. They are the voices. The words. The whispers of those who haven't made it past the veil."

Aello paused for a moment, as she forced herself to look back up, into Vulpin''s eyes. "That's all. I have to find where they are lurking now, in order to be of service," Aello explained, offering a slight bow of her head, before she tried to make her way past him, and into the rooms beyond.

It was time for her to figure out what to do now, for they were finally calling to her too...
