Misinterpreting her actions as discomfort, he sighed. She probably wanted him to get out of the way so she could sell to other customers and continue making clay.

"I will let you get back to your pottery, then..."

Stranger in a Strange Land (Ha'na & Sam)

She looked back at him then. She'd been in the city for a little bit of time, but she'd not gotten a chance to know too many people. The hours she spent working were long. When it was time to stop working, she found she had little else to do.

"You needn't go if you'd like to talk still. I was about to take a break. Would you like some water? I don't have much food to offer, but I'd happily share the bread and honey I have."

"Oh, all right. Water and bread and honey." As if on cue, his stomach started growling. He smiled sheepishly.

He thought maybe he would bring some of the honey to share with Lillis next time he saw her telling fortunes. Then perhaps he would take her to meet Ha'na. For some reason he thought they might get along, but what did he know? Especially about women.

She picked up two plates and two cups from her trunk and nodded. His growling stomach only furthered along her sisterly tendencies. Her head tipped towards the door before her body followed, feet moving her along quickly for her cottage.

"Have I told you my name yet? I'm sorry. I can't remember... I'm Ha'na."

"Yes," he said, grinning, some of his sun returning. "You are Ha'na and I am Sam. And we both sound like starving people."

He laughed, and despite the city and its walls surrounding them, it sounded rather free and unfettered. Unsure whether or not it was appropriate to follow a Benshira woman into her home, he put the honey pot into his saddlebag and dug around for some food to add to their lunch. It wouldn't do to come empty-handed, after all.

She chuckled, announcing, "I am starving. I get so involved in what I'm doing that I tend to forget to take a midday meal."

With that she disappeared into her cottage.

She came back out with the promised bread and water. She had her own bowl of honey poured out to share. There was a certain grace about her as she stepped about quickly and carefully, balancing things so they would not go falling.

"I don't have any table other than the one covered in clay. I hope you don't mind sitting on the ground."

He shook his head, smiling. The ground became his seat immediately. Passing over a bit of goat cheese he had traded for and some rabbit jerky, he felt like he was contributing to their meal. So far, he had had good luck in Syliras with food. People would buy him something for a bit of information or for guiding them somewhere. His explorations had made him a good tour guide. And then there were the people who offered him a bit of food; he always tried to reciprocate. Some things were ingrained in his being no matter how far from Cyphrus he ran, and the idea of balance was one of them. It existed everywhere in nature, and he felt better about things when he maintained a bit of balance in his own life. The one exception, of course, was his lack of pavilion...

"I don't mind sitting on the ground," he assured her. "I live in my tent out in the forest. I'm saving my mizas for the future and I don't know yet if I'll stay in Syliras long enough to bother renting or buying a place."

She sat down, carefully spreading out their little feast before pouring him a cup of water.

"I lived in a tent for quite some time. I grew up in a city, but about ten years of my life was filled with travel. Eventually I was just so tired that I needed to settle down again." She gave a removed little smile and handed him his plate. "I'm a poor excuse for a Benshira, perhaps."

"That's all right. I'm a poor excuse for..." He grinned and shrugged it off. "Thank you, and I hope you like the goat cheese and rabbit jerky. You do eat meat, don't you?"

She eyed him, curious as to what he'd cut off on his own words. She had some strange guess, but it was only that and she wouldn't inquire about it. She smiled, giving him a tiny nod.

"Yes, I eat meat. And just about anything else offered to me. I'm not a picky girl."

She chuckled.
