Abashai- If you give us an example, we can explain? I'm not sure what you mean by 'acquired skills' exactly. I'm going to try and take a stab at it, but if you're meaning something entirely different, let me know!
Okay, say your PC doesn't have a cooking skill at all. Yet, you have to eat right? You rp putting a pot of water onto your nifty little fireplace hook in your Traveler's Row rented room (or campfire in the wilds, or tent brazier, etc) and throw in some vegetables, seasonings, and meat (you got at the market, gathered in the wild, stole from PC X the poor guy!) and attempted to make yourself some stew. You get credit for it! We'll give you anywhere from 1 - 5 XP per activity when your done with a thread, and they add up tremendously as you play the game... so though you didn't take cooking as a starting package skill, you can still turn out to be a better cook over the course of game play as your character progresses.
This is a good way to learn on-the-go skills like horseback riding or hunting. You simply (as you get the XP awards - so when your done with a thread, be sure to nudge someone to award it XP!) add it as you get it to your character sheet (thats why we make you keep records).
And obviously someone with a cooking of 0 - that stew isn't going to be the greatest, compared to say someone with a cooking of 80... you know, you might just do anything to get a taste of it..

I hope that helps?
Also, if you want to flesh out any skills for the wiki.... say desert bolo throwing or something odd that no one has thought of, feel free to do so via the World Development Forum. Once we think its wonderfully perfect, we'll invite you (or offer to do it for you) to add it to the wiki.
