A New Day

Season of Summer, Day 12, 512 AV

Today was supposed to be the start of a new life, where everything would be better, a new job, a new Master. However, little did the woman know that hard work was hard to find, especially for someone like her. Usually Kelvics were easily snatched up on the job market, or that is what Hund thought, but being deaf and nearly blind in one eye made everything a challenge. The only skills she had was working out in the fields, which she though here in the city she would be able to lift heavy crates or at least sweep a floor. No such luck was on her behalf so far and the day was almost over, how would she ever satisfy the urge to do something productive when no one wanted her services?

The tall, muscular woman lifts up a callused hand to wipe a bit of sweat from her forehead, making her short white and brown hair spike up a bit in the front. Hund appeared to have a boyish look about her, in her opinion gender didn't matter, only the amount of work you put in did. So it came a bit of a surprise to her to see a few scantily clad women, none of their attire seemed practical to her but the city in general was strange to her. So many people in one place, she couldn't find relief even from the top of her old horse, Titus. Even he was having trouble trying to find a path for his bulky body, his graying nose nudging people aside. For a farm horse he was fairing well so far, she just hoped she would be able to keep the trusty steed and not have to sell him.

Hund didn't know where to start off in this strange place, she only knew one Master in her entire life and always had someone telling her what to do. Most people would think being freed from slavery was a good thing, but Hund didn't view it that way. There was always food and shelter provided for her, she didn't have to go out and buy food for herself or find a place to stay. The first night she had stayed in a tent, that had been a bit comical to view as she attempted to set up the tent. Her odd blue eyes, one smudged with brown, scan the surroundings only one could see clearly which played havoc on her depth perception. At the moment, she either needed to find shelter or find another Master, preferably the latter.

Friends were something she did not know or understand, being raised by a farmer who only wanted items and beings that could be sold or traded, that would give something to him in return for caring for them. Friendship she had found out was only good for gaining discounts at the market or for mutual protection against a single enemy. Such as, Hund was not a great conversationalist, especially since she could only sign. She was not a mute, she could make noises and such but she couldn't hear her words to be able to pronounce them correctly.

A New Day

Postby Hund on June 10th, 2012, 4:50 pm

Then sun glittered on above her, shining down on her already sun-kissed skin, knowing that beneath her tunic her skin was several shades lighter than her arms. She was naturally a creamy skinned woman, but work had turned her mostly exposed skin a golden color which in turn made her odd hair stand out even more. Hund made a face of pained confusion, she couldn't read the jumbled symbols that were letters on the signs. She knew she was going to be thoroughly lost the first few days here, but she couldn't go anywhere else. The thought of changing into a wolf and hunting out in the wild made her frown, knowing that she would be a failure at hunting. Then again she could catch small prey by using her nose, but it would be a challenge since she could not hear herself to know when she made a sound.

It was hell for her, this was going to be her one chance to be something, if she failed her she would have to try to live her life as a wolf out in the wilds. It was that or starve in the gutters of the city. She had less than a week's worth of food, though she still had some money and could sell some of her supplies and horse for more if she desperately needed it. Rubbing the back of her head, she contemplated on the course of action she should take. She could find the Knights she heard about or try something simple, a menial job that she had a higher chance of getting hired. The Knights would never take her, but she knew her soul wouldn't rest until she knew for sure. She needed to know, even if the fact crushed more of her wounded pride.

Unsure of where to go, she urged her work horse on, Titus flicked his ears back with a bit of uncertainty before continuing to wedge himself through the crowd. She had no idea which way to go, but hopefully she would eventually end up at the Recruitment Office. Determination was one of her strong suits, Hund had to hold onto the last deteriorating threads of her dreams with an iron grip.
