Silver linings...This isn’t a river. This is the highway that we pass on our way to school. Not my pic, someone else posted it on FB. It’s been raining non-stop and really badly the whole day now… a lot of people are stranded and can’t go home, including my brother, and my boyfriend.
Shameful to say, this is “normal”. This happens EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. You can just imagine my disdain… I feel bad for the homeless people, and I feel worse for the people who die in these floods. A few years back, there was a terrible storm to the point that houses were buried under the floods, and numerous families drowned. The city I grew up in was one of the cities so badly hit, and it was terrible to hear many familiar names in the list of victims. Until this day I still have a difficult time going back to that city, even if it’s to visit relatives.
Is this post depressing? I think it is. Sorry about that, but I just had to put it out there.
You know what I love though? I love how people can be so joyful amidst something so terrible. There’s a place around here where the street kids use the flood to compete in swimming competitions. They also show of their diving skills by climbing up lamp posts and diving into the water… lol.
It’s not just people. My dog refused to stay inside the house, and when I let him out, he waded through that one corner in our garden which floods. He hates taking a bath, but suuure, this is alright with him. It made him stinky and dirty, but at least he had fun.
My point is… yay optimism. Always look for the silver lining, no matter how twisted things are.
Also… our country is beautiful. Don’t let this post detract from that fact. Heehee.
