Tock didn't know the meaning of her name. She had never studied etymology. Had she ever bothered to research it, however, she would find that Zipporah meant 'little bird.' Agatha meant 'good.' And Minerva, quite fittingly, meant 'intellect.' Thus her full name could be translated to 'The intelligent, good little bird.' But all she knew was her father had chosen her name, for reasons unknown to her. And the only meaning she saw in her last name was her connection to her father and grandfather. She snorted and snickered as Monty explained his lineage, picturing him trying (and failing) to ride a horse, while the large, red setting sun hung in the background. It was a humorous sight, and she almost fell out of her chair as she tried to drain another drop of ale from her mug. She then leaned heavily on the table, dropping the mug aside, and pointed a finger right at Monty's face. "Yer right, Glassman," she said, snickering to herself, "...Glassman. Montaine Glassman..." Her eyes wandered off for a moment, before turning back to Monty, without focus. "Ain't so tainted... were my Granddad's name... Zipporah..." She propped her chin on her hands. "I loved my Granddad. Zeph *hiccup* Zephram Zipporah. An' I think... I ain't never met 'er, mind ya," she pointed her fingers at Monty, suddenly very serious, "I think what fer my Grandmam were 'Agatha'. Least, what fer Granddad said somethin' what 'at one time, when I were..." she held a hand out to the side at about waist height. "I ain't minds Zipporah so much, though..." she muttered, her eyes losing focus as she swayed in her seat a bit. "But who done ever 'eard o' a name like Minerva!? I mean... C'MON, Glassman! Where's 'ey get sommat like 'at?" She trailed off, finally procuring another mug of ale, and gripping it eagerly in both hands. She sipped at it, managing to dribble a bit down her chin, taking long, slow drinks until she finished off the mug. She wiped her chin on her sleeve, belched, and dropped the empty mug on the table. "Stupid name, anywho," she muttered. "Tock's better..." |
