Completed A Bird in Hand (Alea Campbello)

"Thank you" Kuvarakh responded, smiling as he followed her outside. "If you want to raise a podium outside, I would have no objection." he grinned, "But we are not staying in this facility after season's end, and I don't want anybody tripping over it."

A series of earth spikes rose from the ground nearby and he stopped and stared. He turned to see her smiling, and couldn't stifle a grin. "I haven't seen much display of earth control and it is quite new to me. I suppose as you progress, you could raise walls and create doorways. I understand that they can be quite unsteady for beginners. Sort of the result of inconsistent solidity.

"I was wondering a few things. Can you create a vacuum with air control? For instance, to put out a fire. Also, I realize that being able to change to a bird, you wouldn't need to use air control to fly, but can you, say, lift ME into a tree? And can you perform reimancy when IN bird form?

I don't want to bring you to the point of overgiving, but I'd like to see something showing finesse and control as well as a display of power. And if you can show something of a blend of the two elements, I would say we are done."

"I am close to overgiving" Alea said "but I am sure I could lift you, And I am only just learning to control reimancy in my human for so I want to focus on that rather than my True Form"

And with that she used djed to emit res into a liquid and spread it onto the ground, and then separated a bit into a solid ball and hovered it above the liquid. He then turned the outer layer of the liquid into air before turning the ball into earth and making it float above ground, turning it all into air at the last second which sent the ball flying into the air. She then turned to the man and burst out laughing at what she had just done.

"Can you AIM such earth projectiles, over distances, like a catapult?" Kuvarakh asked, his right hand shielding his eyes from the sun as he watched the ball of earth descend to impact the ground with a solid thud. "Or can you take already formed stones and then attract wind to drive them as a barrage of projectiles? I confess I am unsure of whether the use of element attraction uses so much less res as to delay overgiving significantly.

"I realize there would need to be a good stiff wind for any real benefit from the use of attraction. I am not asking you to do this now, I am just wondering if you have done it before. Please don't be concerned if it seems as though I am looking for reasons to reject you. I am not. In fact, I am already glad to see ANY display of earth control." He walked over to a nearby tree as he spoke, stopping as he reached it and turning back to face her.

"But bear with me a moment. That last display was not exactly what I was looking for, though it was impressive nonetheless. While it did USE both elements, surrounding one with the other, it did not truly MIX them." His expression became slightly pained, fearing he was coming off as an overly demanding taskmaster. This would definitely be the last demonstration he asked of her today.

"If you think you can do so without overgiving, I would like to see you blend the two into a small cloud, like a miniature sandstorm and then see if you can smooth the bark on the left side of this tree by driving it against it like sandpaper.

"I realize I am asking a great deal. I believe it will give all the demonstration I asked for, all at once. it will show elemental blending, it will show precision and finesse. You have already displayed ample power."

Allan was starting to tire but she would not give up. Using the last ounce of her strength she used her djed to emit res and the hovered it into a cloud next to the tree. She had never done this before but she guessed how it would work.

She tried turning it into air and earth at the same time and it seemed to work. She then pushed it against the tree and almost instantly the tree was smooth.

"You know, a man from...that town in Cyphrus...Ender...Rykus...that one that's always moving...anyway, he told me of a combination of a Stormwarden, creating a strong wind, an air reimancer, attracting and funneling that wind, and a servant pouring buckets of sand into the funnel of wind for five chimes to do what you just did in a few moments." He gave Alea a very satisfied smile.

"He thought it was really something what those three people did working together. And it WAS. And you just did it alone! Of course, they were able to keep it going for much longer, and it covered a bigger area, but if you'd had the benefit of a good stiff wind, I expect you could have as well. You must be quite tired, I'm very sorry to have taxed you to this extent, and I cannot promise that I will not have to do the same in the future, but I can see great potential.

"I'm quite prepared to sign off on your application. I know you have seen our rules, you know we will be expecting you to find lodging and employment, you know about the rules of conduct - common-sense stuff, for the most part - and you know about the 20% treasury tax. I believe we are finished. If you have not changed your mind, I would be happy to welcome you to The Order of Transcendence!" He held out his hand to Alea in welcome.

Alea let out a woop of delight and even though she was tired adrenaline overcame her and she turned into her true form and circled in the air, she then landed on a branch of the smooth tree and let out a caw of delight before landing back in front of Kuvarakh. She turned back into her human form and felt a bit embarrased.

"Sorry" she said, her face going red "I didn't think I would get accepted" She shaked the man's hand. She finally felt she had a reason to live, she was so happy.

Her enthusiasm and gratitude was infectious and Kuvarakh did not try to suppress his grin. "I'll add your name to the roster after I finish the documentations and such. There will be a grace period extended to give you time to gain employment, but I would visit The Sanity Center at your first convenient opportunity. If you think of any questions we haven't covered, do not hesitate to ask."

He reached his right hand across and patted her shoulder in friendship. For a moment, he thought of dealing her a mild hypnotic injection of confidence, but decided against it. He had to remember, as a founder, he had not really been subjected to an interview. He might also have wondered if he'd be accepted. Better that her confidence build naturally.

"Well, I will see you around then. Welcome aboard!" he said with a smile and a bow. He turned to head back to the HQ building. He had no doubt she'd be fine. With her earth reimancy, she had something no one else in The Order did. After a few weeks of being the only one who could do certain things, her self confidence would climb.

He returned to the office and signed the application, marking the name 'Alea Campbello' on a new folder and writing his own endorsements and account of the interview for Eridanus to review on his return.
