Plants are Living Too

A single candle lit the room, the dim light going just beyond a figure sitting in the chair. The only light in the room. Darkness has fallen, and the lights progress did not make it far before it too was consumed by the dark. It wasn’t like the room had any windows, no! The walls were plated with metal and had powerful shields to keep the magic of the nuits experiments contained. There were many valuable things within the isle of Sahova that needed not to be tampered with via the stray alchemical energies which were the results of the undead’s many experiments. The light dimly reflected off the walls, and into view came the desk and upon it was many, many papers. It was overflowing with work, with knowledge with alchemical notes, but no, that was not all. The desk held other secrets, yes, other secrets that the nuit wanted to claim for himself. You see, before Ray was given this lab to work with it used to be another’s. Another Alchemists lab Rayage had obtained and with the shimmering gems of knowledge that lay dormant within, just waiting to be discovered, and that was exactly what the nuit was doing. He was discovering, figuring out and deciphering the last notes of the now dead Alchemist.

Rayage had been pouring over these notes for hours. Yes one paper after another he had read, and yet it seemed that he had gotten nowhere. Only bits and pieces he could make out. The handwriting wasn’t the easiest to read and the Alchemist had noticed that the other had a knack of just entering enough information into the logs to attract attention and to show he was doing work. The rest of it, well, Ray could only assume that it was kept locked away in the mind of the person. So, in the end, the majority of the alchemists work died with him. It was sad too. Some of the theories were interesting, but he had found one in particular to be quite interesting. Yes quite interesting indeed. The former alchemist did not only study the art of Alchemy. It seemed he had many other hobbies as well, and that these made him quite the valuable wizard to the undead community. Among the things that he had studied were Herbalism and Philtering. Both skills, after reading what seemed like only 'half notes', the nuit was interested in learning. One page in particular went into some detail about a plant called the Hayun. It had very unique properties it seemed, possessing the natural ability to resist high djed charges. The dead alchemist theorized that using an extract from the plant and incorporating it into the embalming process, or even as simple as bathing with it, would slow the decay of the body due to exposure to the djed flux of alchemy. Though if that was proven, then many more possibilities and uses could be derived as well. One use came to mind immediatly, and would be sure to put it to good use. This plant could be valuable to his research as well.

With that decided he replaced the loose piece of paper on his desk. These were the old Alchemists notes, but they were his now to use at his disposal. Use them he shall then. They were just collecting dust sitting there, might as well burn them if they are doing nothing for the nuit. Make more room for his notes and his own thoughts. Though he has already contributed quite a bit to the collection, he felt that he had been outworked by this other Alchemist, and it was obvious why Qiao trusted him. The guy got results. It was just so frustrating how little he could actually gleam from the notes. They were supposed to be notes, but like most wizards they kept their secrets tight within them and it would take quite a bit of convincing for one of them to slip and tell someone else their secrets. Rayage understood this. It was just annoying how it impeded his progress to actually learning about the plant. Surly there is other literature somewhere on the flora that resided in Sahova? It was then the great library came to mind. He would have to look there first and foremost.

Rayage sat at his desk, numerous papers and books adorning it today, all of them open, spread out on the wooden surface for him to read. This was quite unlike him though, to be looking at other alchemists work, but he found this particular alchemists notes to be quite interesting. You see, unlike the majority of Rays research this alchemist studied and knew a great deal about plant life. Supposedly the research was leading this particular fellow to a cure-all, a miracle drug that will do away with all sickness, even death: True immortality through the perfection of plants and medical herbs. It was an intriguing prospect, but alas this was not Rays quest.

The nuit wasnt reading the others work out of admiration or interest. Something caught his eye, and that something, according to this alchemist, could only be found on the isle of Sahova. In the notes it was described as a plant that may resist the effects of Djed. A brief mention of the name of this plant wasnt considered in the Alchemists notes. No, in fact, they were very well cryptic. The nuit found himself drawing lines and making wild guesses on the meaning of some sentences and words. It was a puzzle, one intended to do away with all those unworthy of the knowledge of this alchemist, but nonetheless Ray was slowly putting the pieces together.

Throughout deciphering the notes, it prompted the nuit to do other research. He searched the library in search for any mention of plants, and he eventually ended up finding some old tomes on the various kinds of plants unique to the Sahovan Isle. This was good, and within he found mention of a plant that seemed Djed resistant. This was all too perfect. Hayuns, the Djed resistant plant. He now had a name and description of what he was looking for.

Flipping through the alchemists notes, it was a shame the research was never completed, his eyes drifted reading the ancient writing of an alchemist long past. There are negative side effects to the Hayuns plant as well it seems. It has been observed and recorded that many an animal who took ate the plant regularly as a food source grew more wild and feral as time went on. However it may be worth the risk.

Now he found himself, once again, at the summit of the mans research. He had read the notes many times over and with each read he picked out something different, something he missed, finding a new dot to draw a line to, completing the picture more. The bases of the findings were the plants Djed resistant nature…
