The alchemist sat his desk. For all the things that he knew about alchemy he hadn’t quite looked into something basic, something that he hadn’t quite thought of. Looking down at the blank parchment in front him, ink bottle to the right, and quill to the left he grew frustrated. The nuit did not know what to write, where to start, how to start… It was a problem that had been stumping him for a while now. Picking up the quill he wrote down the question at the very top of the page What is the importance of Ichor in World Magic? he continued writing out the many obvious ways of its importance. For some reason it allowed the user to connect with the world around them through the use of Djed. Does a person’s vital energy, their very essence, have some control over reality? Of course, everything is made of Djed, and through personal magic it has been proven that sentient creatures can direct their djed to affect the world around them. Though he wondered to what extent does this apply to world magic?
Through alchemy all the mysteries of life, of the world and the universe, can be explored in a controlled and informed environment. It allowed the wizard to explore the possibilities and to open his mind to what was and what can be, but more importantly what is. They change the mundane to the extraordinary, lead to gold was a common expression, but a learned mage would know that the words ‘lead’ and ‘gold’ usually meant something else entirely. Still, in whatever context the concept rings true. The alchemist is on a journey, a journey to perfection, the advancement of the mundane world, creating things that should not exist, questioning reality at every turn. It is only those who dare to question what is established that make any sort of meaningful advancement. For it the real alchemist who knows that reality is what you make it, and what you make of it. Though to make reality one must understand reality and that is where the contradiction manifests itself. How can you understand something when you don’t know what to make of it? You question it. You question it and investigate, come to your own conclusion.
