Appearance: Gad takes after his Benshira father in just about every noticeable way, tall and slim and a bit lanky, long arms and legs, with tawny skin and and dark features. He has scruffy features, unkempt hair which has subtle waviness to it, and usually stubble around his mouth and neck. Gad is always clean however, he makes it a point to bathe regularly and wear clean clothes and keep his mouth clean. So he's not dirty (or as dirty as he looks rather), he just looks disheveled sometimes.
Character Concept
Magical Used Car Salesman, Student of Street Law, Dyscalculic Gambler.
Life's a game, who wants to lose?
Real nice guy though.
Character History
Gad grew up with his father, Hazikayah, in Sunberth. His father made money as a charlatan, selling miracle cures and duping people with various trading scams and get rich quick schemes. Hazikayah's image as a phoney was actually a well constructed facade designed to through people off of the truth; he was indeed a powerful wizard. Hazikayah was in Sunberth running from something, exactly what Gad never figured out, but by the time he reached adolescence he knew whatever it was scared the living shyke out of his father, who would do anything to avoid it. Someone was after him, Gad discerned, but who and for what was hard to tell.
Hazikayah was prone to flights of fancy, delusions of grandeur, and bouts of rage. It could be said that he was a mean drunk, but Hazikayah never had a problem being a jerk even without alcohol. The man acted as if to pay a compliment would literally cost him money, and he was never above handily and harshly point out flaws (perceived and otherwise) in complete strangers, as long as it didn't affect business. He was domineering and demanding and narcissistic to the point of never being capable of admitting wrong doing. He had a bad gambling habit, didn't know the meaning of "honest living" and didn't really care about anything except Hazikayah. So there was a long list of people who'd want to hurt him. However, there was someone or someones he was so afraid of that, as a master wizard, he'd risk hiding in Sunberth to avoid.
Gad's relationship with his father was ambivalent. Sometimes they were incredibly adversarial, to the point that they could clash over the smallest things. Other times they could be each others best friends. Ultimately, though, their relationship was pragmatic. They always stood better odds together than apart and they both understood that. Gad's father taught him what he knew about magic and about people, and how to use both to his advantage. Gad learned to turn a phrase and speak a little honey, but was more interested in the magic. Sunberth was a stifling environment for a young aspiring mage, and Gad's progress has been somewhat stymied because of this.
It was around 507 AV when Gad had to strike out on his own. Of course, the fourteen year old was glad to be independent of the old miser, but when Hazikayah disappeared it left Gad without what little support he'd had in a dangerous city. There was no warning or reasoning given, Gad just woke up one day to a a note that read "Leaving. Not coming back to Sunberth. You're ugly. -Father". He struggled and hustled and managed to learn the ropes of living off of the streets of Sunberth. He learned to keep his head low and his mouth closed and his eyes out, but most of all, he learned that if he was going to make something out of himself, no one would do it for him; he'd have to take what he wants.
