While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Fallon on January 27th, 2013, 9:46 pm

A brief gasp of relief escaped Fallon’s lugs as the wolf was ripped off her. She held the Kukri quivering in her hands for a moment before pushing herself up. Besides the little scratches on her face, she was relatively unscathed but no doubt wrapped in a sense of shock. She looked to Kreig who had knelt himself down beside her, concern and worry covering his features, mixed with a sense of terror and rage. She managed to nod quickly at his words, her breathing becoming steadier as she focused herself. Her grip tightened around the hilt of the Kukri. She was safe for now.

Her eyes turned up and behind Kreig, a flash of fear filling her face as a second mighty wolf came racing towards them, fangs bared a kill. The snarl roared out from its throat as it came lunging down. Her eyes widened as it targeted on Kreig, and her mind raced as it tried to react. But it was instinct that broke through in the end. She planted a hand on his shoulder, springing to her feat. Her fingers tightened around the blade as she gave Kreig a firm shove to the side. The ideas of survival was what made Fallon move. If it was not for this nagging instinct, the woman would have been dead a long time ago. The blade when forward, the call to fight ringing through her ears as the steel met bone. The wolf still came forward, the Kukri wedged into its skull as the weight fell against her. It twitched uncontrollably as Fallon lost her hold on the weapon, partially trapped beneath the sheer weight of the mighty beast. She paused for a moment rolled the creature to one side as she gripped the hilt of the Kukri once more and wiggled it out, placing a foot against its skull and the gaping hole in its flesh.
“Bit too close,” she managed to gasp as she heaved the rest of the blade out.

Although there was the air of courage about her, it was clear that she was petrified, barely clinging to her wits. Her eyes quickly glanced about at the scene, from the blooded wound on Kreig’s leg to the wolves that raged about. To fight would be deadly, and would be best if they were able to escape. But with a fit and healthy hunting party surrounding them, it would be unlikely.
“Get up,” her voice was cool and straight to the point, an under growl forming in it, a habit that Fallon had yet to silence. She extended a hand down to Kreig to pull him up, her eyes constantly watching. To survive the three would need to work together. A knight, a squire and a… whatever Fallon was. It did not matter now, questions could wait until later. Because right now was a bigger priority.

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Kreig Messer on January 28th, 2013, 6:41 pm

He was felt relief wash over him, other thqn a few scratches she was safe, but then he winced as he felt tje nagging pain in his leg where the wolf had bitten him. Then as Fallob placed her hand on his shoulder ,quickly got up and suddenly shoved him to the side, causing a look of surprise as he sat on his bum, only to see that Fallon had planted her strange blade into a wolf's and Kreig was struck with the undeniable feeling that she had saved his life. At her words he took her hand and with a wince of pain he stood up, raising his wounded leg slightly to ease the pain. Kreig mentally berated himself as he scanned the battlfield, he had gotten lost once more and caused all this by attracting a pack of wolves, ultimately causing his escort and someone who had nothing to do with this to get involved.

Of the whole pack that surrounded the hapless group, only two wolves had fallen and thus only five remained. Two of the ones he damaged were now before them and eyed Kreig hungrily, whilst the remainder including the alpha surrounded Natasha. It was a difficult situation, the wolves were more cautious now but the viciousness in their eyes only grew. They were divided and at a disadvantage, but the tides of battle were ever changing, if by some chance that Kreig and Fallon took out the two wolves before them, or Natasha that natasha took out the alpha, the wolves may turn tail and flee, be surrounded themselves or leaderless and thus easier to take out with little trouble.

"I may be the wounded layabout at the moment but would you care to stay behind me? I dread to think that my foolishness would be the reason of your death" He said to her as he limped past her slightly with his fists raised, he attempted to reach a footing but his earlier feeling of relief had caused him to exit the adrenaline rush he was in prior, making it quite difficult. If Fallon made any attempt to to stop him, it would have been too late as one of the Wolve's charged and leaped once more, again aiming for the neck, or so he Kreig assumed when he raised his fist, but as soon is it bit down on the metal of his gauntlet the second wolf pounced, going for his wounded leg. If Fallon did not act quick Kreig would very well lose that leg of his.

In the other corner Natasha found herself facing frustration, her, the squire she was charged to escort was cornered alongside a civilian she had stupidly brought into the affair. with a dagger in her hands and facing down three wolves, one of which is the Alpha apparently, their chances looked as good as the rations they had ate in the first length of their journey. She could attack first but the wolves could just use their superior speed to attack from the side and even with her chainmail armor a wolf's bite could still crush the bone in her arm.

Again these wolves were more cautious now once they realized their prey wasn't quite as defenseless as they seemed, especially with the arrival of a human armed to the teeth. One of the wolves sudden charged her, quickly she raised her shield-arm and attempted to slam it into the wolf, causing it to be pushed back but immediately another wolf took the opportunity and went for her sword-arm. Natasha quickly jumped to the side and cut the wolf slightly on the side, earning a yelp.

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Fallon on January 28th, 2013, 10:22 pm

Fallon hauled him to his feet, her eyes taking in the scene of battle. Chaos surrounded them, a sea of blood and cries. To simply stand still would only spell their demise, and to split them up would be for the worse. But before she could even object to Kreig’s request the man had already stepped forward to receive his potential execution. She could not let the man suffer, for despite all the skill and differences in all of Mizahar, Fallon right now tried her hardest to succeed. For tonight was the night that survival of the fittest ruled. And she was going to make sure the three of them ended up on top.

As the second wolf closed in, Fallon sprung forward, pushing down the fear that consumed her. Her mind screamed at her to run, to take the opportunity to flee into the night and never be seen again. But that was too easy, and cowardly. And although there would be time to argue about it later, right now the three of them were a team. She grasped the Kukri tightly, one hand wrapped around the hilt, the other at the pommel. She felt her Djed swirl around her, focusing down to her hands, readying them to spring forth from her flesh to be used as a secondary weapon. She threw herself against the wolf adrenal consuming her, instinct pushing her on to fight. If she did not fight more blood would be lost.

She threw herself upon the wolf as it lunged for his leg, plunging the blade into its side. A howl of pain screamed through as it ripped itself away and the blade was lost, lodged in the side of the wolf. It turned on its side anger and rage, jaws snapping as its attention was shifted to her. Its jaws bared against her extended out to go for her, its new target. Wounded or not, the wolf still had speed behind it, and currently Fallon was disarmed and defenceless. Well almost defenceless. She summoned her Djed forth, her mind racing to reach her hands to rip her astral from her physical. She barely sidestepped as the wolf came upon her, the blade wedged into its far side. It whipped round, and snapped at her eyes wide and filled with the call of the hunt.

It leapt at her, a blur of movement racing towards her. The world slowed as her death pounded towards her, ready to kill and devour her. She ripped her left hand and her astral counterpart away, a grunt of pain as her teeth clenched tightly together. She sent it forward, to hit to strike, to do anything that was within her power to muster. She threw herself to the floor, an attempt to escape as her predator came upon her. It gave a second cry as her astral hand pushed against its face, not stopping it for it was far from strong enough to do that, but it was enough to confuse it. As the wolf past she scrabbled to her feet, her left hand having fallen limp, the occasional twitch that she mostly ignored. She had to move faster, but firstly she had to claim back her blade.

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Kreig Messer on January 29th, 2013, 7:40 pm

Kreig cursed himself once more, the weight of the wolf's bite on his gauntlet placed a surprising amount of pressure on his arm. Immediately he grabbed it by the fur of its neck, trying to summon the strength and rage to remove it from his arm, and thankfully he had....and once he freed his arm he used it to grab it but its mouth and slammed the wild beast into the nearest tree, repeatedly, until it stopped moving and blood dripped from its skull. He turned his gaze in search of the second wolf and to his horror realized that Fallon was engaging it and from his perspective....it looked like the battle could go either way, the wolf looked to be wounded and then Kreig noted that Fallon was not holding her strange dagger...and her arm was limp. He limped himself to face the wolf, the wolf's own gaze fixated on Fallon, unaware the Kreig was behind it. Suddenly he threw himself over the wolf, placing his hands on its neck in a hold, giving Fallon a chance to retrieve her weapon if she could and slay the savage beast.

The wounded wolf Natasha had limped bled, but only slightly and still had much of its strength, but it seemed to move further back. The Alpha snarled viciously as it charged at the Knight, Natasha attempted to retaliate by slamming it with her shield but it quickly jumped back and dashed forward once more, ducking between her shield and dagger arm and knocked her to the ground. Quickly letting go of her shield, Natasha brought up her left arm and pushed the Alpha's muzzle aside, but it pushed back with bared fangs attempting to bite her neck. Natasha reacted quickly however, as she valiantly attempted to push the Alpha's muzzle away she brought up her dagger and stabbed the beast through its skull. Slowly she pulled the dagger out and pushed the body away and stood up once more and glared at the wolves, they looked defeated....the deed was done as they began to scurry away.....

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Fallon on January 29th, 2013, 9:13 pm

She watched the wolf pound once more, a snarl escaping its throat as it charged. For a moment she was frozen with fear, unable to bring herself to move. None of her powers would save her now, be it through strikes, the mind or her Djed. But then, another stepped in. She watched Kreig throw himself at the beast, a tumble through the air as the pair were locked in a mad struggle. For a moment she hesitated, surprised that the fangs were not at her throat and that Kreig had stepped in. She pushed herself forward, feeling herself growing tired as her astral continued to waver. She withdrew it back to her flesh, carefully reattaching it, extending out the threads so to prevent less injury. The extremities joined, slowing weaving their way up the joints as Fallon dashed to the struggling pair.

Without a second thought she drew the Kukri from its side, and in a second swift movement she plunged it into its flesh. It gave a howl of pain as it struggled, but it was useless. The blade was twisted, and a gurgling screech escaped, before it fell limp a dead weight. She drew the blade and looked down to the blood covered Kreig. She would of offered her hand to help him up, but as the final strings attached themselves once more, she felt the pain slice through her limb. It was the curse of rushing projecting, the feeling as if the nerves themselves were on fire. So gritting her teeth she gave a smile and looked onto the battle field of man and beast.

For a moment she considered leaping back into the fray, for his escort was no doubt in need of assistance. Or at least until she watched the knight put a dagger through the skull of the wolf. The rest of the pack broke away, fleeing to escape the field, to hide or gather more was not a question Fallon was going to wait around to answer. She looked down at Kreig, and sheathed her blade before extending her hand down to him before helping him up.
“We need to get moving,” she said as her eyes darted to the knight.
She gave a whistle for Orvin, for no doubt the cub had hidden himself in the midst of combat. And in all honesty she did not blame him; she would have done the same given the chance. Quietly she watched the trembling cub emerge from his hiding place and bound towards her, ears flat against his skull with a quiet whimper in the back of his voice. She gave him a gentle stroke, but she remained aware of what was going on, and awaited the next lot of instruction.

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Kreig Messer on January 31st, 2013, 10:57 am

Natasha breathed in relief as she slowly stood up, feeling the breath knocked out of her when the wolf had knocked her down. She sheathed her dagger after wiping the blood off it and picked up her shield. Suddenly her eyes became that of a nagging parent as she slowly marched to Fallon and Kreig.

"Indeed, I'm sorry to have caused you so much trouble" He said taking her hand guiltily and getting up, plaing his weight on his unwounded leg and raising the other. The stinging pain in it felt a tad bit unbearable but the sooner they left this part of the woods to whichever camp the better. He then looked to his right to see that Natasha, his escort, had lifted his arm over her shoulder.

Since we have no choice but to a walk a bit slowly, I will nag you the entire way" She grinned as Kreig let out a groan and looked at Fallon for help from his fate, but unfortunatley a good lashingwould be a good idea for this lout "I told you to never leave my sights, and what is it you do the first time I turn my head to light the fire? Leave my sight! I had to leave my horse behind because it was too exhausted from the length it travelled today because it was carrying us and our items, so I had to follow a covulted path of broken branches and crushed leavs to find you on foot. What's more, I had to ask this young lady for help and ruined her night, and why didn't you stay at her camp? you could have saved us a lot of trouble if you did" After a bit more ranting and nagging, Natasha stopped as the cringed look on Kreig's guilty face satisfied her. Then she turned her sights to Fallon " I must thank for your aid, along with an apology, I'm sorry we dragged you into this while you were no doubt ready to turn in for a night's rest" She miled gently at her like only a mother could, her peers like to think its a side benefit of worshipping Yahal, and then spoked once more "If I may trouble you a bit more, may you come with us to our camp? I have what we need back at our camp, and treating the small wounds on your face would be a small payment of your aid"

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Fallon on January 31st, 2013, 11:50 am

“Sorry Kreig,” she mouthed at him before his fate was played.
For all the time the Knight spoke, Fallon remained silent, ever listening and ever watching. But it was not just to the words of the woman, it was to the gloom of the forest about them. Whilst the two were talking, she kept on her guard. But she could not help but find it amusing listening to the pair, for despite all the nagging and harshness she could not help but notice the care. She watched Kreig’s face distort into one of guilt, before the nagging finally stopped. He did deserve it; the lecture was perfectly acceptable in this situation, and no doubt in time he would make less foolish mistakes. She gave a nod to the Knight when she spoke.
“No needed to apologise. A little excitement never hurt anyone after all,” she gave a smile followed by a yawn. Her left hand still throbbed with pain, but she could at least move her fingers, and flex the tendons that existed there. Though she would make no comment on it, there was nothing she could really do other than let it rest and recover. And then the offer came.

You shouldn’t get close to them Fallon. She paused with thought at the offer of the knight. Although part of her wanted to accept the offer, she found herself also wanting to reject it. People after all were never a strong point. Although she could always make polite conversation, when she found herself getting close to people they found out what she was, a mage, a wielder of the Djed, an outcast. And then she would find herself alone once more.
You’ll only end up getting hurt again Fallon.
She glanced down at Orvin, before gently picking him up. For a moment the cub squirmed as he tried to get comfy, before falling silent in the comfort of an arm. Her left hand however still remained free and ready to use. She glanced at the smile of the Knight, remembering the gentle tone before giving a shrug.

“Well, I don’t need payment. You needed help so I figured I may as well do something,” she turned her head away. She quietly bit her lip as she thought about the next part of her answer “But I’ll help you back if that’s what you’re asking.”
It was no doubt that a sense of curiosity was what got the better of Fallon in the end or more specifically a longing for some human interaction without delving in too deep. She would keep them as acquaintances, nothing more, and nothing less. Or for the moment at least, she had yet to see how they judge the people like her.

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Kreig Messer on February 1st, 2013, 10:29 am

Season, year, day, hour, minute

"We would appreciate the aid, I have no trouble retracing our steps to the camp but there is saftey in numbers and your wolf cub could certainly give us advance warning if there is danger nearby" She said to Fallon, then turned her gaze to Kreig "Also..." she proceeded to set Kreig down on ground and had his back rested on the tree "Quite careless of me but till then...." She grabbed the sleeve of Kreig's shirt and tore it away, then proceeded to remove his boot, revealing the slighlty torn flesh from where the tip of the wolf's fangs had pierced through the leather and poked his leg, then proceeded to wrap it with the torn sleeve "Thankfully the bleeding isn't sever and the sleeve will prevent it from dripping further blood on the ground" then gently she replaced the boot back onto his foot as despite the bite marks it was still fit for wear....sort of. She then whisked him back up and placed one of his arms around her shouler to give him support "Now let us move on"

The trip back to Kreig and Natasha's camp took little time to reach, a campfire showing traces of having been recently been put out with a hollowed out log placed a safe distance infront of it , a horse whose reigns were tied to a tree branch and a 4 person terson tent that actually belonged to Kreig had been set up. Natasha gently placed Kreig on the log and motioned for Fallon to light the fire if she could, while she herself went to fetch the proper medical supplies from her tent.

"Again, I'm sorry I dragged you into such trouble..." Kreig sighed as he looked at Fallon and the wolf cub in her arms "It would have been better if I simply followed Natasha's orders" Kreig said, calling Natasha by her first name, although squires are required to show their superiors proper respect by calling them Ser or Sera, something she has stressed to the Brawler repeatedly as they travelled, even if he was simply a prospect.

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Fallon on February 1st, 2013, 11:56 am

Fallon was silently led on to the dark camp, and was quickly instructed to light the fire. She gave a small nod, and gently placed down Orvin. There was a quiet whine of disappointment, but she quietly silenced him with a quick pet before tending to the fire. In the dark she managed to gather some tinder, and barely located the flint and steel, a low clicking sound showing that she was trying to tend to it. For a while it was simply that, lost in the darkness with the occasional spark of light erupting from behind her hunched form. She heard Kreig’s words, but simply shook her head.
“The past is the past,” she gently blew upon the tinder as it caught a spark “All that matters now is you’re safe and in one piece. If not a bit, roughed up.”
The tinder ignited, a small flame in the darkness creating both light and shadows. Quietly Fallon tended to it, feeding it, letting it grow and become a beacon of warmth and calm. In the fire light she turned once more to Orvin and gently stroked his fur. Now there was light, she was able to look about properly. The camp was set up for both of them, but if need be more people could no doubt reside there if need be. There was also the horse that remained tied up. For the most part however it was like any other camp.

It made her sometimes wonder of the true relationship of the Knight Natasha and of Kreig, but their business was not to be pried upon. Well for the most part at least. She listened to the knight rummage about for her supplies to help for Kreig’s wounds. She glanced at Kreig, her eyes slipping down to the wounded leg, before snapping away.
“So, you’re heading to Syliras?” it was an attempt to make small talk to forget about the battle they had just escaped and an assurance that the battle would not return to them.

Stumble in the dark (Kreig)

Postby Kreig Messer on February 1st, 2013, 12:34 pm

Kreig chuckled a bit "Yes, Natasha speaks highly of the city, where I'm from people rather hate it" Kreig looked at his legs, his fists once more then to the newly-made fire " They do not take kindly to anyform of order, being raised there I shared that sentiment, partially still do. Which is why I worry once I reach the city, I am quite literally a fish out the pond and being thrust into the ocean" He sighed then looked towards the tent and saw Natasha coming with a small jar with a small bag containing sutures to close the slight gashes caused by the wolf bite.

She knelt down besides and removed the boot and the former sleeve which has been slightly stained with his blood, he winced as she pulled out the needle and silk thread from the bag. He winced even more as she ran them through his skin, repeating it again on the remainder gashes on his flesh "ouch, Sera, can't you be more gentle?"

"Forgive me for not taking into account the fact you'd whimper like a child and unfortunately I am not a trained healer, so the end result will not be pretty"

Kreig winced at the thought, but once she was done she applied the ointment and then placed all her tools back into the bag. The stitches indeed did not look pretty, but it was hopefully enough and they won't have to amputate his leg or take care of some sever fever due to infection.

"I suppose the one good thing that happened from all this was that you called me Sera, though not in the tone I'd hope for'

"I'm sure I'll dig up a more proper tone when the time permits, but thank you for the shoddy work on my leg" He said in a bit of cheeky tone, but his face told Natasha he was genuinely thankful.

"Excuse me young lady, Fallon, was it? If I am allowed to pry, may I ask where your own journey takes you?"
