The Possibility of False Life

"Perhaps...," Thomas' voice trailed off, his eyes distant and empty. His breathing grew louder, echoing throughout the silent library. His body slouched, and his head began tilting towards the right, gently, gently, gently.

And Thomas was falling asleep, heavy eyelids fighting a losing battle.

A snort, loud and rude, errupted from the drowsy, sickly, human, his body shaking from the start.

Thomas glared, startled, paused from confusion.

His tired mind recollecting his thoughts, "Books?" he repeated, turning his gaze from the undead to the ancient bookshelves. As quickly as he could managed, he grabbed two books detailing a basic animation, and a small gadgeterring guide, much like the one he had taken from the library weeks, earlier.

"Tomorrow," he mumbled, his voice cracked and tone grogy, "Come to Lab 15," he said, shoving the books into his companion, and turning away, dragging his feet as he pushed on towards the exit.

"Tomorrow," he repeated, moaning.

The Possibility of False Life

Postby Orinei on January 18th, 2013, 6:35 am

Orinei stumbled to regain her footing as Thomas shoved the books into her arms. He hadn’t pushed her hard, by any means—in truth, she doubted he had the strength to do such a thing—but she hadn’t been expecting him to suddenly lurch toward her. Her eyebrows were raised, this time not out of amusement but in disbelief. She briefly glanced at the books so unceremoniously deposited in her arms, making notes of what they were: basic Animation and Gadgeteering. Perfect.

She looked up from the books to watch him leave, and that tiny twinge of pity gently tugged at her sleeve once more, suggesting that she help him. He’d nearly falling asleep standing up, for heaven’s sake. But again, for Orinei, those feelings always seemed to leave her as quickly as they came.

She waited, listening to the sound of his dragging footsteps to stop before she left herself. Tomorrow. Lab 15. She was truly excited about this; she hoped the boy would still be alive the next day to show her a thing or two. Now she just had to make sure she could get the day off from Amaryllis.

Walking decidedly more quietly and gracefully than the ill human, Orinei swept out of the library, anxious for what the next day would bring.
