Kavala was tired. It had been a full day, a long one, filled with clients that all had issues with their animals due to the cold. Surprisingly, her most common alignment of the day was dehydration. It was cold and snowy outside, and people tended to forget to give their animals fresh drinking water that was not frozen. Animals could eat and eat snow, but the effort in melting the snow in their bellies often brought their core temperature down and caused them to shiver and loose the benefit of what little water they had.
Then there was frostbite, especially on the ears and paws. Kavala had treated a great deal of that today as well. All she could do was remove the damaged tissues and educate the owners on why the animal was without shelter or had gotten frost bitten in the first place. Then, opposite of frostbite was when an animal laid too close to a fire. She'd seen a few burned tails and paws as well today, covering them with salve and wrapping them to prevent infection. When she could she used her gnosis and gave the animals a clean start and their owners a quiet bit of advice on how to prevent the next occurrences.
And thankfully no one was sick. But every client she saw asked her if she'd heard any word on the Drykas illness. She hadn't. She just new people in the Sea were getting sick. She worried about Ronan and Sam and all the Sunsingers. She hoped Leto was safe. But there was very little she could do from where she was, other than worry and listen to the gossip to see if there was anything worth investigating at the end of it.
And by the time the last appointment was seen, Kavala felt defeated inside and out. She'd been eating more - or attempting too when she was hungry - but working as hard as she did, sometimes that wasn't enough. All she wanted was some warm tea, a bath perhaps, and then early to bed.
But that wasn't to be the case.
Instead Cadra walked in with Tasival in tow. He carried a little lantern and was grinning from ear to ear. He babbled something incoherantly, pointed towards down, and caused Kavala to glance at the calendar above the exam table she was leaning on.
Festival of Hope.
It was the children's big scene. And obviously Tasival had been told about it because here he was with his lantern, all ready to go dance with the other children and hang it up in hope. Part of Kavala smiled, proud of her son, but the other part of her groaned. She had no idea what Tasival would hope for that she hadn't already given him. And she had no idea how she was going to find the energy to walk to town with him and participate in the events out at the watchtower.
Cadra spoke up, solving that problem. "Aweston hitched up the pony cart for you two. He said Larik is going to go with you in case you need someone to drive home. But he'll go with feathers, so take a pack for him in case he needs to drive home." Cadra swung that one off her back, handing it to Kavala. She then removed a second one with Tasival's things and presumably a snack for both.
"Go.. have fun. I'll clean up here and close up. If anything happens, I'll send one of the birds to find Larik and he can bring you home. You two deserve some fun. Go have some..." She said laughing.
