Question: Books

Postby Charles on February 25th, 2013, 11:40 am

I was unable to find books for purchase on the price list so I was curious as to how books can be acquired. Can they be role-played in freely if their presence in the thread is realistic? Is permission required beforehand? Or is any 'Lore' that could be rewarded as a result be directly linked to a mod's satisfaction with the reasoning behind their presence and acquisition.

I ask because my character lives in Lhavit, an information capital. Specifically, I'd like to have him acquire a book(s) that explain in detail the anatomy of the 'common barn owl'. Why? He's developing his morphing skills and is approaching it in as strict, organised and disciplined way as possible.

Actually, while I'm here I might ask for a general opinion in regards to how I wrote how my character came about the morphing skill: basically, I got the impression it was a skill that can be learnt but can't be taught. Is it plausible that a man in Lhavit could gain access to (no necessarily own, but study for a time) books that explain the basic principles behind Djet, morphing, etc. and from there slowly develop the skill on his own?

Question: Books

Postby Alses on February 25th, 2013, 2:20 pm

Hallo, Charles! Good to see another Lhavitian and another mage at that! I should point out that books are listed under Magic and Enlightenment on the Master Price List. Also, Morphing can definitely be taught; that's what the Twilight Tower specialises in. As to your books question, so long as it's not rare knowledge, like the astral coordinates of Jaleri, you're okay to RP a book without permission. If you're ever unsure if it's okay, though, a quick PM to a Storyteller will see you sorted; they'd much rather you ask than have to do an intervention down the road. For you, I'd have said that if you were a student of the Twilight Tower in Lhavit, then it'd be entirely plausible for you to have that book.

Lhavit is a special case with regards to libraries; the Bharani Library has much more knowledge than the others but you need to make a unique contribution to it to get said access. If you want to learn morphing, your best bet is to PM Elysium, the ST of Lhavit, and arrange an apprenticeship at the Twilight Tower. Then you can RP having access to a range of books on common anatomy of the local wildlife etc from the Twilight Tower's library.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply! I completely missed the Twilight Tower when going through the lore. This is a game changer!

Question: Books

Books are incredibly rare. In Lhavit you have to give the library knowledge to take knowledge out. It would be unlikely you would find a book on something so specific but you could study it on your own. Im in Lhavit and a morpher. I would be willing to teach in exchange for work around my shop. Ive been hugely busy lately but work is eating so Ill have time of your interested.
