Appearance
As an adolescent human who cannot be classified into one of Mizahar’s sub-races it is not surprising that Charles lacks many defining features. While not boasting incredible muscle mass, Charles is well toned and incredibly fit. Contrary to the disciplined nature of Lhavit, Charles’ pale brown hair hangs down to his shoulders and is somewhat shaggy. His hair, however, is the only exception to this rule as Charles likes to keep the rest of his body well-groomed.
The lines of his face are well defined and his nose, lips, eyes and ears are all well-proportioned to his face. His nose is slightly hooked, though it’s only noticeable at a close distance. His eyes are a deep shade of green and are probably Charles’ most eye-catching feature.
As for clothing, Charles will usually wear a pale blue shirt, light brown breaches and brown, soft-leather shoes. He also has a brown cloak should the occasion call for it. His clothing isn’t exciting to look at but it’s comfortable and practical.
Character HistoryAt some point in their lives all humans wish they could fly. For most people this dream is written off as a child’s fantasy. For Charles, it became the first true ambition of his life. Growing up in Lhavit, a city in the clouds, made Charles envious of the birds who could navigate the skies. He quickly came to the conclusion that walking amongst the clouds was a poor substitute for the flight he so desperately desired.Pre-CreationCharles was born in the year 494 AV to a loving mother and father. His father was a baker. A serious man, he very much embodied the disciplined lifestyle stereotypical of a Lhavit resident. He worshipped Zintila and devoted most of his time into developing his baking. He wasn’t a wealthy man, but he was able to properly provide for Charles so that he was never lacking the necessities. His name was Lock. Charles’ mother was in many ways her husband’s polar opposite. She didn’t worship a deity nor did she live an overly disciplined lifestyle. She was a being of passion whereas Lock was a being of discipline. Before meeting Charles’ father her passion was solely focused on her love for music; in particular the flute. Her name was Beth.
Charles’ only has vague memories of his early childhood but they all have one thing in common; music. Whenever he thinks back to his early years a soft melody being played on a flute echoes in his ears. He remembers happy times, things that occurred before reality shattered his small piece of paradise. Charles’ mother died of illness when he was eight-years-old. It came on suddenly and her health deteriorated rapidly. After her death, Charles became very closed in and would seldom speak to people unless it was to answer a question. His father was also damaged by her loss. He threw himself into his work and was ignorant to his son’s condition. Lock stopped praying after his wife’s death.
At the worst of times everything Charles saw would remind him of his mother and re-open his wounds. It was at times like these that Charles first began to glance to the heavens and wish he could leave everything behind; to simply fly away. Despite how bad his situation seemed, like with most ailments, time was the best remedy for Charles’ sadness. At age ten Charles began to come out of his shell after Lock presented him with Beth’s old flute. It was weeks after receiving the flute before Charles tentatively brought the instrument to his lips and blew a few notes. Slowly but surely, Charles began to interact with other children again. His relationship with his father began to improve as well; Lock began trying to teach Charles the baker’s art.
At age twelve Charles decided that he didn’t want to be a baker and his father respected the decision. Everyone in Lhavit had the right to pursue their own passions. Charles wanted to fly. He began his own self-education as an acrobat. He started small, focusing his efforts on stretching, meditation and his overall fitness. When Charles began to experiment with some basic vaults and flips he quickly discovered that he had a knack for the art. Each time his feet left the ground he felt the euphoric sensation of soaring through the air. Each time it occurred it refilled his passion and conviction. Once his confidence grew Charles began to busk. While he would primarily showcase his acrobatics he occasionally played his flute as well. His success has varied.
At age eighteen Charles grew increasingly frustrated with his situation. He realised that no matter how polished his acrobatics became, his current path would never lead to true flight… and he would not settle for an imitation any longer. It was around this time that Charles began to seriously consider the one option left to him; magic. A practice met with speculation and distrust at the best of times, though wizards were somewhat more respected in Lhavit in comparison to other human cities. Charles’ next endeavour is to find a teacher.

Character ConceptCharles is a young man with a big dream and the resolve to see it become a reality. Despite his days of depression and self-inflicted social isolation in the years after his mother died, he presently shows no major signs that he was afflicted as such. His early childhood took place in a loving environment and it caused Charles to grow into an honest, kind-hearted individual.
That being said, his desire to pursue his dreams coupled with his similarly minded father-figure has led him to develop a one-track mind. If Charles believes a task or job will help him eventually reach his goals he becomes hard working. Unfortunately, the opposite also applies. Basically, without clear motivation, Charles is not a very enthusiastic worker.
While not entirely aware of the fact since most of his education past basic literacy has been self-taught, Charles is a fast learner. His sheer determination to succeed allows him to persevere through failure until he gets something right. This should not be confused with recklessness though. Charles takes a well-balanced, disciplined approach to his learning and training much like his father does.
Charles threw himself into the development of his skills at a relatively young age. While he did interact with other children on occasion, he never made any real friends. He is somewhat shy but quick to come out of his shell once he gets to know someone. His social skills are slightly underdeveloped and he has trouble reading people’s emotions. Put simply, he’s dense.
Charles dislikes people who take what they have for granted or who choose to glide through life without a goal. Conversely he holds great respect for people who, like him, have their sights set on something.
Charles loves music. While his skills with the flute are still underdeveloped, he enjoys playing and slowly improving.
