The Family She Never Knew

Iselanda was excited and she ran up next to her cousin ready for the trip. The conditions weren't unreasonable. Better than aimlessly wandering in Sunberth. Her parents were lagging behind with the horses. She would rather walk with Brossk.

"Brossk, why haven't you come back to Avantha?" she asked harmlessly. She was wondering why he never just came back home. She would have loved to take care of him whether her parents wanted her to or not. She felt like she was bringing up a touchy topic.

"Nevermind you don't have to tell me," she corrected looking dead ahead at where they were going.

As the young woman ran to keep up, Brossk kept talking until he was interjected. He fell silent and listened as she corrected herself. Brossk put thought into his words and was visibly straining to come up with an answer he would deem suitable. At last, he gave up in the way of sugar-coating and trying to seem less dramatic and spoke for his in-law family to hear, "Well, Avilina and Kirar are both passed and gone. They were taken from me and I failed them. As Ninieth and Celise know, I was a scraper at one time in my life. I lived a different way and hold true to my ways as a warrior, and I use that term loosely. I want to avenge them or die trying. But, for obvious reasons I haven't gotten around to that." He said as he lifted a wine jug, shaking its few drops to show little to no contents.

He rolled his eyes back to the roads ahead and managed to hide a small gimp that crept up on him from time to time. Nothing was really wrong, at least not as wrong as they could be given his way of life, it was old age and years of abuse on his body. The stroll through the grass and dirt was fairly undisturbed as they came up on the performers caravan.

Brossk let a small smirk cross his face as he witnessed juggling and other various forms of entertainment take place in practice as they got closer and closer.

Iselanda listened carefully to the story that her cousin have just given her. He wanted to avenge the cousins she never knew about, but it seemed like he was just too lazy to do it. He didn't have to drink and stay in Sunberth. He chose too, but Iselanda kept that to herself. She knew how to be respectful and what she thought was the complete opposite.

In the distance, Iselanda could see different forms of entertainers. They were all very good at what they do and she was excited to be there. She jumped up and down with joy as if she were a two year old. Then unsuspectingly she hugged Brossk.

She was thankful to have him and that she had found him on the way to the unknown lands of Sunberth. She let go and looked back at the entertainers that they were getting closer to. "Thank you."

Brossk never expected the hug. Nor did he ever expect the youthful giddiness that she displayed. The words 'Thank you' was a phrase that was also stranger to him. His features allowed a smile, a true smile, to spread almost ear to ear. In all truth, he didn't know what to say. His company was never this good.

The caravan of entertainers included various sorts of people from all across the lands. A reimancer that bore the attributes of an Nuit, bending various fires and helping a Myrian cook. For obvious reasons, these two races cooking disturbed Brossk as it may have disturbed many other travelers. Konti fortune tellers and Ethaefal astrologers kept Brossk's eye only for their scant clothing, this in indication of a running con, but hey, you never know right? An Eypharian was the juggler they saw using at least ten balls. The few other various mixture of races were taking breaks and chatting in merriment and jest.

Brossk was fairly impressed at the details of what the caravan entailed. And with a smirk on his face from the jubilant girl, he was a happy man for once.

"Alright kid, go have some fun and make sure I see what kind of trouble you'll get into. I might just join you." He said with rolls of wrinkles from poor living conditions announcing his smile.

Iselanda didn't have to be told to have fun, but the trouble was something she was new too. She ran over to the different entertainers and watched them intently. They have all perfected their skills and she was barely making it as a storyteller. Letting out a sigh she walked around and saw a beautiful dancer. She was a perfect Vantha in her eyes. It was strange to see one of her kind out here performing.

Iselanda couldn't help but watch her. A Myrian was offering Iselanda food that she wasn't used too, but one bite she was hooked. Her attention averted from the dancer to the juggler. She couldn't juggle if her life depended on it, but watching it was another thing.

Her parents finally caught up and Ninieth was holding both of the horses as Celise walked up to Brossk. Her arms were crossed and she was displeased. "My daughter will not be with a street performer," he mother spat at him.
