Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

N'ivae

2nd of Spring, 513 AV

The muscles in N'ivae's back ached from the nights spent sleeping in her tent too long. Her fingers and toes, she thought, would never feel as warm as they used to, for when the sun set, the air cooled significantly. She could not keep a fire kindling all night, either. So, she decided that she would not sleep in a tent any longer. It was time for her to get back into the practice of medicine, and therefore, time to start searching for a job. Soon, she hoped she would be able to stow away her tent and sell her beloved Gilding so that she could own a sturdy house. Maybe one day, she thought.

From her prior knowledge of Riverfall, N'ivae knew that there was a labor aid office where she could fill out a few forms to find a job. Once she had enough money, she could also come back to try to find herself a home. It was like all her dreams wrapped up into one building, which was perfect. And so, through the streets she set off, making her way towards the location of the office. Although it had been almost three years, she still knew her way around the city quite well. At least, she thought she had. N'ivae's memory was certainly challenged, however, as she had walked past the building twice, circling around before finally, entering it.

The inside of the grand building was more plain than she had expected, but it was not tasteless. It fit the demeanor of the place more than lavish decorations would. With a hopeful smile, the white-haired woman approached the desk where an Akalak man sat, nervously scribbling at a document under his hands. N'ivae settled her hands on the desk, leaning over slightly to speak to him. She knew her Tukant was poor, so she settled for speaking Common instead.

"Hello, I'm N'ivae. I'm here, looking for work. If you don't mind, could you--"

She was cut off by the man sliding a sheet of paper towards her. In a quiet voice, he murmured, "Please fill out the following..." then turned back to his own paperwork. Blinking, the Konti took the paper in hand and turned on her heel towards the other desk, where ink wells and pens sat, waiting to be used. She took a seat near the middle, placing the form down and picking up a pen. Dipping it into the well, she began filling the form out as carefully as she could.

Name: N'ivae
Race: Konti
Age: Twenty-two
Relevant Skills: Medicine
Preferred Employment: Medical position
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Undecided

Once more, she looked over the form, checking for any mistakes in spelling or otherwise. Then, with a bounce, she hopped from the seat and approached the man again, her now dry sheet in hand. With a small smile, she placed it on the desk for him to take, and thanked him for his time. He nodded at her, taking the paper and placing it in a pile near him.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Sarith on April 20th, 2013, 7:26 pm

8th of Spring, 513 AV

Sarith was not a man who procrastinated, he liked to handle things swiftly and without delay. It was a kind of love for efficiency, for logical order in his life. As such the issue of citizenship and employment had immediately caught his attention, since as a visitor he had no rights to property or otherwise in the city. He had already scoped out a nice apartment and had everything settled, except for the matter of citizenship which was kind of the deciding factor.

So here he was, in a rather nice office seeking to try his hand at earning citizenship. It would not be easy to convince them of his worth, of course, as he possessed nothing what so ever in the manner of martial talents. He had used Voiding in battle, however, specifically against the Zith so if he worded himself correctly, perhaps it would be possible to find a sort of loop hole in the system. Magic was certainly a potent weapon in the right hands, hopefully the Akalak would recognize that.

Sarith approached the desk, bowing his head to the Akalak behind it as a sign of respect.

"Greetings, sir, I was hoping to find both employment and citizenship if possible." Sarith said, his words refined and articulate.

The Akalak nodded and slid forward two forms.

"Please fill out the following..." His voice was quiet, Sarith suspected that these requests were quite common.

The scholar nodded politely and carefully moved the parchments to a nearby desk, adjusting his monocle and taking in an intake of breath. His steady hand picked up the quick with practiced easy and began writing, filing out the employment form first.

Name: Sarith
Race: Human
Age: 23
Relevant Skills: Writing, Calligraphy, Voiding
Preferred Employment: Scribe or something involving Voiding
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Most likely a year

Sarith sighed as he finished filling out he form, his handwriting fluid and smooth. Next he moved on to the more important form, the citizenship form. Idly he wondered if the Akalak would prefer if Sarith were to give him a written thesis on the uses of voiding in combat or not. He opted to simply give one verbally, no reason to waste precious ink.

Name: Sarith
Race: Human
Age: 23
Competency In: Voiding
Employment: To be determined
Expected Stay In Riverfall: A year or two

The scholar looked over the forms again, looking for any errors or inconsistencies. Finding none the man returned the forms for the Akalak to look over. Sarith cleared his throat a little nervous at what his response might be. Perhaps it would be best to deliver his thesis now?

"My apologies, sir if Voiding seems ineligible but perhaps you will allow me to explain its uses in combat? I assure that it is as good as any sword, if not better, as a few Zith learned. I could explain, and even provide a demonstration of its uses." Sarith said, tripping over his words slight as he spoke.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Lial on May 1st, 2013, 4:37 pm

5th Spring, 513

Lial leant on the door to open it. The inside shade gave her refuge from the sun outside, and she ducked through the doorway and let the door swing shut behind her. She had arrived earlier that day and taken her time to explore the city, with its alleys which retreated into nothing and streets lined with bustling shops. The herbs and spices combined in a sharp scent which hung everywhere until the sea wind blew in and washed it away.

Silence hung in the air, shattered only by the occasional scratching on a pen. Lial was aware of her quiet feet padding across the floor, now much louder that they were the only sound. She tiptoed up to the desk. Her coat rustled in her arms. She set it down on the floor beside her.

The akalak looked up. "Job or citizenship?"

"Job," she replied, and took the forms which he passed her. They rustled in her fingers, and she tried not to smear muddy fingerprints all over them. She hadn't picked up a pen in months. Hopefully, she still knew how to write. She chose a pen, and weighed it in her fingers. Bulky, and she had to twist her fingers around it, but she could get used to it. The desk was too low so she had to jam her knees underneath, and the chair legs scraped across the floor, grating on her ears.

She began to fill in the forms. Hopefully, they would have a job for her, at least, but she couldn't be sure. She was a foreigner, with few skills, and a kelvic: An animal in the eyes of most. But she needed the money, and they had to understand that. She needed a job.

Labor Assistance Form:
Name: Lial
Race: Kelvic
Age: 3
Relevant Skills: Cooking, hunting
Preferred Employment: My only real skills are in cooking, but I'm not very talented at it. Something which wouldn't be too complex for me, but would still be able to pay my expenses.
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Not entirely sure, but most likely a few seasons.

Sheepishly, the Inarta stepped into the office, her head low as she looked about. It was an alien place for the young girl, but a necessary evil she would have to do regardless of her age. Hesitantly she went past the group of Akalak that had gathered around the boards filled with text and advertisement. For a while she hovered before it eyes darting across them with her ears twitching to the low mumble of voices from the Akalak in their native tongue. It took a while to understand the context of them, but when she finally did the girl took herself over to the desk and asked for one of the labour assistance forms.
“You need to fill out the following…” the Akalak that was behind the desk passed one of the forms before raising an eyebrow at her.
“Thanks,” she quickly took the form from him and went a way to fill out the form.

Reading what was about had obviously paid off. It helped in giving her an insight on what she should at least put on it. For after a few chimes of scratching out the information on the page and returned it to the Akalak behind the desk with a nervous smile having worked its way upon her face. She had put what she thought was important down along with the amount of time she would be residing in the city. Either way, it was a start to say the least. Whether or not it would help in getting work and an income had yet to be determined. But it was a step in the right direction.

Name: Sami
Race: Inarta
Age: 13
Relevant Skills: Some skill in shortbow and wilderness survival, along with a small amount of knowledge in fire reimancy.
Preferred Employment: Something that allows the further practice of current skills. Otherwise flexible for whatever is deemed suitable.
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Several seasons at least.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Souris Blanche on May 4th, 2013, 3:55 am

She walked towards the building, tousling her hair, pulling her shoulders back, being sure that her back was straight. As she walked she wondered if she could actually acquire a job. As she walked, she wondered if she would miraculously get hired. She bit her lip as she walked, her pace slowing, and as she entered, her fists clenched. She forced a smile, big, wide and hopefully sparkling as she seemed to bounce over to the desk. Her fingers were brought up onto the tip of the desk as she looked at the blue man on the other side. She greeted him with a hello, told him why she was there-- to hopefully get employed-- and then she received her employment forms, and she retreated to go fill them out someplace that she didn't feel small under the Akalak's gaze.

When she felt comfortable a ways away, she looked it over only for a second before she bit her lower lip and filled it out. It wasn't as hard as she'd expected, she'd been getting better at reading and writing. She filled out the following:

Name: Souris Blanche
Race: Kelvic
Age: 7 Weeks
Relevant Skills: Novice in both Cooking(15) and Dancing(10)
Preferred Employment: Librarian , Waitress , perhaps a job at a bar. Any place that's hiring.
Expected Stay In Riverfall: At least a few seasons.

She decided to be completely blunt in the Preferred Employment part of the form. She shrugged, handing it back to the blue man. She needed a job, and she honestly didn't care where it ended up being. As long as she could be of use some where, making some sort of money, she would feel successful.

Kolvia
2nd of Spring 513 AV, 15th bell

Kolvia entered the building casually, closing the door behind her. She was nervous, and was anxiously twirling and in twirling a piece of hair around a webbed finger. The hand that was connected to that finger was her right one, and since it was up at an angle, I made it so her long sleeve fell back just enough to reveal a winged serpent. The healers gnosis.
She walked up to the main desk where a handsome Akaluk male stood behind busy with his work. He looked up, waiting...
"Oh um..." She started. "I would like to apply for a job. This is-" he cut her off pushing a paper towards her.
“You need to fill out the following…” Then he returned to his work.

She picked up a quill, dipped it in the ink available, sat down in the chair in front of her and began to fill out the form.

Name: Kolvia Olevias
Race: Konti
Age: 22

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Loken on June 7th, 2013, 4:07 pm

Summer 1st, 513 AV.

Loken entered the Labour Aid Office with a slow pace as he passed through the doors. He had walked through the streets of Riverfall for a season as spring finally became summer. He had found a place to lay his head safely, met interesting people that he called his friends at the sanctuary, and began to feel comfortable for the first time in several seasons. Since he had no intentions of leaving the cities vicinity Loken decided it was time to become a Riverian Kuvan.

The Ano Cultist stood in front of Malin and Malix's desk where he was asked for a job or citizenship. “I require citizenship.” Spoken as he shifted the straps of his backpack on his shoulders. The distinct hooked blade and crescent guard handle of his Tiger hook sword were sticking horizontally out of either sides of his brown hide backpack. He had closed the opening flap of the backpack over the length of the blade and pulled the straps tightly to strap the swords blade down into place. "Please fill out the following..." Loken took the form which took no longer than a minute to fill in his information before turning it in.

Name: Loken
Race: Human
Age: 30
Competency In: Unarmed Combat and Tiger Hook Sword

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Nailah on June 12th, 2013, 2:01 am

The building seemed bigger from the inside than the outside but simpler than many of the other buildings seemed. A simple dome room with a set of stairs that Nailah hesitated towards before focusing on the large desk situated in the center of the room. For a silent chime she stared at the Akalak at the desk without moving before stepping forward, peering over at his desk.

"I'm here for a job application." it came out softer than intended and she repeated herself quickly, only minutely louder, "A job application, please?"

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Jack Benefort on June 19th, 2013, 7:03 am

3 of Summer, 513 AV

Jack had slept in a little longer than usual, no doubt an effect of all the swimming business of the night before. He didn't immediately realize it, of course, but as he went about the normal habits of getting ready for the day, he started to notice strange things. For one, it seemed to be quite busy sounding outside. But he shrugged it off and went about his business, and took another 15 chimes or so to get completely ready for the day. He then slowly walked out into the main foyer of Atri's place, where he was staying. It wasn't until he reached the door and saw the suns brightness and place in the sky that he became alarmed- it looked to be almost in the center of the sky, so it could be as late as 12th bell!

At this point, he sprinted out of the building and did not stop until he reached the labor office. He was already going to be spending almost all that he had this season for boarding, he desperately needed employment to sustain this stay. After taking a moment to catch his breath, he walked inside and was given a form to fill out for employment, which he quickly filled out and returned to the man seated behind the desk.

Name: Jack Benefort
Race: Human
Age: 24
Relevant Skills: I am not inexperienced with the short sword, and am even more competent as a teacher.
Preferred Employment: No preference. Whatever is available is much appreciated.
Expected Stay In Riverfall: Now through the end of Fall, most likely.
