Garren stirred from his slumber, the sounds of padded feet nearby. Slowly he grabbed his nearby battle axe, turning his head toward the entrance of his large tent. His infravision kicked on, and he saw several canine forms outside. He sighed, knowing it must be early, as his fire usually kept wolves at bay, so it must've died down. Creeping up, slowly, silently, he swapped his battle axe to his left hand, he picked up his throwing axe as well. If he didn't scare them off now, they'd just keep coming back. He needed to prove that this was his territory, for that was the only thing predators understood. He got himself up into a crouched position, gripping his weapons firmly, but not too tight, the warm bodies of the wolves appearing to be several feet away.
He used the head of his axe to slowly part the tent flap. But as the flap fluttered, a wolf head turned to him, and a growl followed shortly. He burst out into the clearing of his camp, and immediately chucked his axe at the nearest dog. It was no kill shot, but it lopped off its tail before burying itself into the ground, a loud cry echoing from the wolf. He now held his battle axe in both hands, roaring loudly, a bestial cry, and swung the axe back over his shoulder. The wolves were careful now, the injured one having run of yelping, and one crept forward, snapping its jaws provokingly at Garren. Garren swung his axe powerfully, in a downward, diagonal chop, knowing he was out of range to hit it, but close enough to scare it. As the axe whizzed by the wolf, it flinched back. Rengar stepped closer, reversing the swing of his axe, bring it upward with a single arm. The blunt side of the axe collided with the underside of the lead wolf's jaw, snapping its head back and tossing it backwards. The wolf was surprisingly not dead, but it was severely shaken, its jaw likely broken. A whimper later and the pack ran off.
Then Rengar decided to speak up. "Brother, you know what you have to do right? That wolf is dead if it can't eat. You need to finish it now, remember what we learned in The Spires, remember Caiyha's teachings?"
Ugh, fine brother, fine. Besides, we haven't had wolf in a long time.
He went back into his tent, grabbed a knife, his rope, and his fishing net. The net wouldn't hold a wolf for long, but it would slow it down long enough for him to slay it. Back outside, he found a trail of blood droplets from the one who lost his tail. Using his infravision once more, he could see the fading pinks of the droplets, leading into the woods outside the city. He followed them, until he came across flowing blue streaks, a stream. He looked on both banks, and saw no blood. He switched back to normal vision, and looked down. He saw several different sets of paw prints, fresh in the mud, and leading down stream. He kept a good grip on his throwing axe, ready to imbed it in anything that moved, as he slowly made his way along the flowing water. |
