Branding a Konti's scales

Bah, my internet isn't persistent enough for chat tonight, again. I think I have everything I need for my character's history except one fact.

Since Konti have scales over their bodies that, I've been told, even extend to their hands and since they brand slaves in Ravok on the top of their hands, does anyone have any preference on how the branding would effect the scales?

I'm pretty sure, in real life, that if you were to brand a fish, crazier things have happened, the result would end up either disappearing or just damaging the scales. I was thinking that maybe with the Konti the scales could possibly turn a different color, so the damage wouldn't be quite so ugly.

On the other hand, perhaps they would deviate from their normal protocol and find a spot with no scales or even choose not to brand at all with the insistence that she never be allowed to roam alone? I'm just postulating the possibilities with those.

Also, which hand gets branded?

Scales are shed through the course of a Konti's life, just like fish would shed scales. I imagine if someone was branded on their hand, where the brand was, the scales would die (scale roots scalded etc) and the tissue would be twisted. So I bet you'd have a very clear slave brand and no scales on your skin where the brand was.

I doubt they'd ever grow again.
